Hitch arrived exactly when it was supposed to. Customer service was excellent. I got at least 3 follow up emails from Etrailer and they upgraded me to a faster shipping for no charge. There was one tiny flaw in the hitch from shipping which is why I didnt' give it an excellent but I just put a little black gloss paint to prevent rust and now you cant even tell it was there. I did not install it myself. It was done by a professional for 50 bucks. Took him 20 minutes and came out perfect. Used the hitch this weekend for my bike rack. Very pleased with etrailer and the Curt Hitch.

No qualms. Very slight rust on the outer most lip that I could probably clean off myself or touch up if it was that noticeable. Thanks for asking.

This is my second hitch provided by etrailer. I put one one on each of my Foresters. This Curt Class II-1 1/4" hitch was fairly easy to install. The electrical hook up was a breeze with the wiring harness also purchased from etrailer. I am especially impressed with the employees of this company. I accidentally ordered two hitches and received a phone call within 24 hours just checking to see if this was an error. Can't beat their prices to boot.

May I ask what you are towing? Im looking at a pop up tent trailer 1249 lbs. 2010 forester.

Hello-I have hauled 1400 pounds of top soil and gravel on several occasions.

by:
2010 Subaru Forester

Product arrived exactly when indicated on shipping and in good condition. Hardest part of install was lowering mufflers and then reinstalling them. Instructions on video were clear as were the ones included.
I would say that for most people, even those with experience, the installation will take closer to an hour unless you have the car on a lift. I did it on the ground and it was a little more awkward.
I think the hitch as mounted looks very good and is well-made.

2009 Subaru Forester

This Curt class 2 hitch installed without a hitch on my 2009 Subaru Forester. It mounts nicely out of the way under the bumper and it's unlikely to hit your legs.

It solidly carries 2 bikes on a Swagman XTC-2 platform rack. Both the Curt hitch and Swagman XTC-2 perform well for the money.

by:

I am completely satisfied with this hitch and matching wiring harness, saving half by installing the parts myself. The toughest part was dropping the exhaust as the muffler & pipe pins were rusted from years on the road. The final installation looks great. Only one minor problem - the wiring kit did not contain the double sided tape as the instructions called for mounting the T-connector black box.

This Curt hitch receiver was installed into my 2013 Subaru Forester without problem. I use mainly it to haul my aluminum trailer with various loads. A year later it is still performing to spec.

2011 Subaru Forester

I just finished installing the Curt class 2 hitch on a new to me 2011 Subaru Forester. I’ve never installed a hitch before, but the instructional videos were excellent. With 50k miles, it didnt look like the removal option would work very well due to rust. It took some wrestling, but I was able to lower the exhaut and install the hitch without any issues. The website was easy to navigate and I received my hitch quicker than expected. Thank you.

2009 Subaru Forester trailer hitch installationSome FYI notes:

1. I removed the splash guards to allow sufficient side-to-side movement
of the mufflers for drilling and grinding.
2. I used an ATV lift to position the trailer hitch and to lift the
mufflers/tailpipe back into place prior to reinstalling the rubber hangers.

Overall, this was a simple job. If I had one before, it would have taken
40-60 minutes. But the final installation looks really good.

2012 Subaru Forester

The hitch arrived promptly in perfect condition. No problems with installation on my 2012 Forester 2.5x. The video was a great help. Thanks.

I purchased a hitch (12047)and wiring harness (118467), it was an easy installation. Very speedy delivery, 6 days. Thanks for the great service.

2010 Subaru Forester

This got installed on my wife's Forester and we have used it several times for pulling a utility trailer and also for pulling our dock and raft at our camp. Very happy with the options it offers for moving more than fits in the car. Since the Forester had the dual exhaust, i did cheat and have my mechanic do the install. He did it within the hour that is advertised, but did say it would have been a bit of a challenge working at ground level. I think I still ended up paying less in total than going to a hitch installer

overall, very happy with the hitch, wiring harness, and drawbar. It's especially nice to have the harness tucked away, as it doesn't get used that often.

Another use for dock pulling still happy to have the hitch to do it with. No complaints

by:
2013 Subaru Forester

The hitch fit my car perfectly and provides the towing capability that I need. The installation was simple as shown on a video posted on YouTube. The video was much more helpful that the minimal instructions received with the hitch. I liked that complimentary products like the correct wiring harness and drawbar popped up with the hitch so that I didn't have to hunt around to find the right ones. The order was filled accurately and promptly, delivery was on time. Service could not be better. My only gripe is that the finish on the hitch was damaged in shipping in a couple small spots exposing bare metal.

Arnold P.

2/27/2014

My opinion has not changed, the hitch is excellent.

by:

Installation was perfectly explained by etrailers detailed videos. Watchign them before hand lets you know is you have all the correct equipment to complete the job or not before starting. The pieces fit well and attached securely. I have been using the hitch now for a year with no issues and other than inside the receiver, there is no rust. The powder coat paint holds up pretty well.

Another year and it looks the same it did last year, receiver paint worn off, but I live up north so the salt gets to anything.

2013 Subaru Forester

The hitch arrived quickly and the easy to follow instructions along with the website video made installation easy. This is the 2nd hitch I have ordered from etrailer and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone shopping for a great product at a great price.

After a year of ownership, the hitch still looks and performs great. The hitch is lightly used on my 13 Forester, but after this tough midwestern winter, it shows now sign of rust or chipped paint. I have to admit, I sprayed all the parts that do not show with rustproofing before it was installed. I would recommend that to protect it from road debris.

by:
2010 Subaru Forester

The trailer hitch has been excellent. My only reason for downgrading it a star is that it arrived bent, which required the installer to unbend it and caused me unnecessary anxiety. I would have been unable to install it myself, and I probably would not have even known it was bent. Having said that, it works as advertised and has added usefulness to my Subaru Forester. Thanks!

Very well. It is fully functional and I love having it.

Items received without damage. Installation very smooth. Watched installation video a couple of times before I installed the hitch and it went just as easy as in the video. Excellent product, excellent info on the web page and overall excellent experience. Will buy from etrailer again!

The installation was as easy as the on line video suggested. I was very pleasantly surprised it went as well as in the video! This clearly was developed with some thought. Both items were extremely easy to install and have been working fine since installation. Whenever I need anything for my vehicle or camper in the future, I most definitely will go immediately to your webpage.Thank you for quality products at a great price. I have to tell you, this follow-up email just made my day! Thanks for thinking of me............Just another really satisfied customer,

by:

Great product so far, although I have only had it less than a week. It did take me about 3 hours to install it, but I will agree that someone who is more mechanically inclined than I could do it in half that time! Wish I would have looked at the U-Tube video before I did the installation. Customer service was great, and the product arrived on time as advertised. In fact, it might have arrived a day earlier than I expected.

Chuck

9/8/2015

Its still great. I have absolutely no regrets about my purchase!

by:
2011 Subaru Forester

Product is top notch! Feels very durable. Installation was a cinch if you drill from the spare tire compartment. Able to install it myself without removing the mufflers. Just loosen the FIVE exhaust hangers (2 on each side of the mufflers and 1 towards the front). Highly recommended!

Russ

Still great and intact!

2009 Subaru Forester

The trailer hitch installed in about 20 minutes and has functioned well towing small trailers. The wiring took a little longer to interpret the instructions, but once we got started, the install was very simple. I did not rate the product 5 stars because I have not put a significant load on the hitch to know how good it might be.

by:
2012 Subaru Forester

Very good product, good price, Very good video instruction by E-Trailer, thanks Guys :-). The Curt trailer Hitch and wiring kit installed on my 2012 Subaru Forester just as described in the instructions and video. The quality of the hitch and wiring harness is excellent. The finished appearance is perfect, the hitch receiver hugs the contour of the car at the bumper. Very solid when complete, no interference with mufflers, no rattles.
All materials are high quality, including the provided (wire) tool to place the mounting bolts. I spent more time jacking the car, placing on jack stands and removing the rubber exhaust hangers than installing the hitch. None of this was difficult, but a very good tool set and experience will help. I used a drill to open two mounting holes up and a hand file to open the other two. A helper to raise the new hitch is a good idea. 3 hours total time was well worth while.

by:
2013 Subaru Forester

Product was well described and met expectations. All the parts were included and I particularly appreciated the detailed online installation video, which made it easy and quick to install onto our 2013 Subaru Forester. The wiring harness was equally complete and easy to hook up with the ends that plugged into existing light harness plugs. I completed installation by myself in little over one hour.

by:
2013 Subaru Forester

Works Great. Easy install.

Installed
the C12047 Trailer hitch to my 2013 Subaru Forester. Brought it over to a friends auto-shop, lifted the car, and an hour later we were fully installed(it did require the slightest bit of elbow grease to square the bolts with the mounting holes in hitch). eTrailer's installation video on youTube was incredibly helpful and straightforward. **Mind the use of fishing-wire to keep bolts from being knocked out of position**

T-Connector wiring harness was a sinch.

by:

Solid construction, works fine. Had a Uhaul shop install it on a Subaru, because it looked to complicated to do it myself. Using it for a bike rack.

Bryan P.

12/15/2020

Drove 2000 miles with a bike rack with two bikes and no problems.

by:
2013 Subaru Forester

The trailer hitch is solid. I have used it with my bike rack, and everything works very well. The installation of the C12047 takes much more time then reported. If you have installed several of these, I'm sure it can be done in under an hour, but for the one time installer with good mechanical skills, allow about 90 mins. All three items (trailer hitch - draw bar - wiring harnes) arrived quickly. The 118467 wiring harnes installed quickly and easily.

by:
2011 Subaru Forester

Product was as expected. Watched install videos and ready directions, then laid out all parts and hardware. Installation went just like the video showed. Two of us installed hitch and wiring in about 2 hours. It is used so far for a bike carrier and works great.

  • Trailer Hitch, Wiring, and Brake Controller to Tow 1,500 Pound Trailer with 2010 Subaru Forester
The 2010 Subaru Forester is rated for 2,400 pounds gross trailer weight as long as the trailer has brakes. If the trailer does not have brakes it is limited to 1,000 pounds. For a trailer hitch that will cover the towing capacity of the vehicle you can indeed use # C12047. The recommended ball mount is # C45521 along with the pin and clip # F-4. For a 2 inch ball you can use # C40018. You will also need a trailer wiring harness on your Forester. If the trailer has electric brakes then...

  • Is The Installation Process For Curt Hitch # 12047 The Same As Curt Hitch # 13147 To Use Video
Yes, the installation instructions for the Curt Trailer Hitch, part # 13147, are the same as Curt Trailer Hitch, part # 12047. You can use the video for Curt Hitch # 13147 as reference when installing on your 2011 Subaru Forester. The Curt Hitch # 12047 is a Class II 1-1/4 hitch, and Curt Hitch # 13147 is a Class III 2 inch hitch. The Curt Hitch # 12047 comes included with a drawbar, pin and clip. To complete your towing setup, you will need the following items: Tow Ready Wiring, part...

  • Is there Clearance for Installation of a Hitch Bike Rack on a 2011 Subaru Forester
You would most likely need an extension to be able to use a bike rack with only 4-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the carrier. We have a video of a hitch installation on a 2010 Subaru Forester, see link, that shows the hitch pin hole on that vehicle ends up about 7-1/2 inches back from the farthest out part of the rear bumper. You would only need about 3 inches of extension, so the Brophy Hitch Extender, # hes6, with 6 inches of extension would work...

  • Which Trailer Hitch is Safest and Performs Best for a 2009 Subaru Forester
The Curt Curt Class II Hitch, part # 12047 has more attachment points because of its higher weight capacity. It is rated at 3,500lbs while the Draw Tite Class I Hitch, part # 24807 and Hidden Hitch Class I Hitch, part # 60893 are rated for 2,000lbs. Ratings for hitches are subjective. They do have to comply with DOT specs before they can be sold. Each manufacturer is held to the same standard. The big advantage in this case is the Curt being a Class II. • Trailer Hitch Replacement Hardware Recommendation for Curt Trailer Hitch on 2013 Subaru Forester
We have replacement hardware for Curt trailer hitches as our part number # RHK. What you'll need to do is select the part number of the hitch you have on the product page and select Curt as the manufacturer. Since there are two Curt hitches available for your 2013 Subaru Forester you'll have to determine which you have. It's pretty easy to though. If you have a 2 inch hitch opening the hitch you have is the part # 13147. If you have a 1-1/4 inch opening you'd instead want the part # C12047.

Trailer hitches and accessories such as wiring or items used to tow (ball mounts, balls) are sold separately from each other in most cases. The correct ball mount recommended with the Curt trailer hitch # C12047 is # C45521. For a ball use # 19256 for a 1-7/8 inch or # 19258 for a 2 inch and for a pin and clip use # F-4.
