Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Hey, I had never heard of etrailer until a friend recommended them. I got jerked around so many times by U-Haul that I just about lost my mind. I made ONE phone call and Lori had my order in place and shipping out the same day. I did pay a small fee to have the hitch delivered in three business days, but you know what, somehow my hitch got to my house on the very next day - overnight. You tell me where you can find service better than that, these days. Order with confidence!!! Great price, great service, great people. Lori is the BEST.

2015 Toyota Highlander

The trailer hitch is a perfect fit for my Toyota Highlander. It took my teenage sons less than 15 minutes to install it. You will not know there is a trailer hitch on my car, except you are told, because it is hidden under the bumper. I am searching for a deal on a trailer and will order the Hitch Mount, Balls and Accessories. I will use my trailer to move yard wastes, items like riding or push mowers, household items, bicycles or a boat. I am excited.

by:

The hitch, wire harness and bracket arrived within 3 days of ordering. Took me under and hour in my own driveway to install it all, and I was towing my trailer 10 minutes later. Great service, fantastic price, and the right part every time. (Second time ordering from etrailer, wouldn’t use anyone else!)

by:

Excellent trailer hitch. Looks great and went on like a dream. Simple and easy. Had to use a jack to support it while it got bolted on.

2002 Toyota Highlander

Yesterday the new hitch for my 2002 Toyota Highlander arrived around 6 pm. I waited till this morning after the grandkids had gone to school and started the install around 8:45. By 9:50 the install was complete.

2002 Toyota Highlander

This is my 3rd trailer hitch from eTrailer.com
Shipping
super fast and product came free shipping.
Super easy DIY installation, helps to have a spare set of hands. My son and I installed within the hour, I like to take my time and do it right with antiseize grease on threads of bolts.
I would highly recommend eTrailer for your hitch needs.

Toyota Highlander

I ordered a trailer hitch for our Toyota Highlander, along with a wiring harness. I used the suggestions on the etrailer site to choose the proper products. Everything worked perfectly! Easy to install and the exact right products. I was more than happy!

by:

I can't say enough about the product support from etrailer.com! I had to call them after starting to install the hitch on my vehicle because the bolt holes didn't line up and I couldn't get the bolts in on both sides. I did eventually get the hitch on, but with what I consider to be a great deal of effort when you are working in your driveway. It's hard to stretch steel. Thus I am only giving four stars out of five.

My best advice to those who may consider installing your own Trailer Hitch Receiver is:
A) Get a second set of "hands" to help until it's bolted in place and
B) BEFORE YOU ORDER...Take a look at the "My Trailer Hitch Doesn't Fit" article on etrailer.com's website. I am not sure if the link will show up if I post it here and It takes a bit of navigation to find it, so here are the steps:
1) Click on the Customer Service link at the top of any webpage on the site
2) Under "All Help Information" click on "Help Articles"
3) Under "Towing Articles" click on "Trailer Hitch"
4) Click on the last article "My Trailer Hitch Doesn't Fit"

This article is what was emailed to me when I called to let them know that they either sent me the wrong hitch or it just didn't fit due to a flaw in workmanship. Fortunately, I had a floor jack and some 2 x 6 boards that were the correct length. After trying to pry the hangars a bit farther apart using the wood and jack I placed the jack under the center of the hitch to try and bend it upwards to help the hangars spread out against the frame of the SUV. Even with all of this I had to use a big screwdriver as a pry bar to finish lining up the bolt holes on the frame with those on the hitch while, with the other hand, screwing in the mounting bolts and washers. That's hard to do by yourself! Had it not been for this issue installation of the hitch wouldn't have taken long at all. This was my first experience installing a hitch on any vehicle so I hope this isn't where the bar will be set for the future or paying the additional $100 to have someone else install one would be worth it--especially if you aren't flush with "stuff" like me. Don't start this project with a time limit nor zero back-up transportation (another good reason to have someone assist).

I also recommend first timers watch ALL related videos for each item you order--both before ordering and just before installation. These will be emailed to you with your order confirmation and are also available on the etrailer website and YouTube. Etrailer.com videos are excellent! Don't watch any generic videos on YouTube unless you are working with custom or non-stock vehicles and/or applications.

With all of this in mind, I am still glad I made the purchase, saved a little cash, and will recommend etrailer.com to anyone with a little more than basic mechanical ability. If you can change your own oil you can probably handle the hitch installation. I also purchased and installed the wiring and will be reviewing the Curt hardwire kit (56146KIT) separately.

What I liked best about etrailer.com was all the how to videos. I knew exactly what I was getting myself into, right? Everything was going fine,The two back weld nuts were corroded, the left one cleaned up nice but the one under the heat shield was going to need to be taped. Too bad I missed the video on making your own thread tap, I ran to my favorite hardware store and picked up a 10mm 1.25 tap, I thought it was going in a little hard and when the bolt wouldn't thread I knew I had a problem. Turns out the tap itself was miss labeled, it was 1.50 After we figured it out the hardware store gave me 10mm 1.50 bolt, it tighten up nice and all is well! I'm an old guy but I would recommend a second set of hand to lift it in place.

2006 Toyota Highlander

I could not be happier with this hitch and with etrailer!!!! Best experience ever. The hitch was packaged nicely so not all the serious scratches like the 2 others I had to return to Amazon (that in addition did not fit my car frame). Fast shipping from etrailer and they emailed me several times so I knew exactly when it was going to arrive. I also received great advice on the phone from their 800 number. But the best part is that I was able to install this myself on my 2006 Toyota Highlander in less than 45 minutes (without harness)! It looks great too!!! I highly recommend this hitch and definitely get it from etrailer.com. I will try to post pictures in a few days.

2001 Toyota Highlander

My order arrived as promised and was packaged well. It was exactly what I was expecting. I am almost 70, and even though I watched the tutorial, the install didn't go quite as easily as I expected. A second person would have made the install go much faster--and easier. Next time I'll listen to your suggestions. I couldn't be more pleased!

My experience with eTrailer.com was Fabulous! I got the trailer hitch a couple days after I ordered it. My 2 year old son helped me install it, it was very easy to install. The hitch slid into place perfectly, the bolts that were provided fit perfectly! Getting a hitch from eTrailer.com saved me all kinds of time and money.

Thanks George!

The hitch was easy to install. It took longer to get it out of the box and get the tools than it did to install it.

Toyota Highlander

I found the shipped hitch to be exactly what I needed for our Toyota Highlander. The installed hitch (very sturdy construction materials) looks very clean and like a factory installation. Your website, information, instructions, and pictures/video were extremely helpful in the installation of the hitch assembly. Your responsiveness to my order was greatly appreciated, and very timely. I look forward to using your services again when the need is there.
Thanks, Bryan Durango, CO

Lexus RX 300

Very easy to install. The instructions were spot on. I was concerned that it would make the back of my RX300 look ugly however, it just looks like it belongs there. I have not had any issues when using my bike rack or towing my utility trailer. Etrailer rocks and so does this product!

by:

Trust me, I am not mechanically inclined but I put this hitch on myself ! Everything lined up and bolted on as stated . I used a cardboard box to hold up the drivers side while I slipped the hitch over the muffler and started the bolts on the passenger side. The heat shield over the muffler caused a little difficulty getting the front bolt in until I used a small pry bar to create a small gap to work the bolt in. I tightened everything to specs, pulled my pry bar out and presto --- installed by myself. If I had another person this would have been a 10 minute job ! Super fast delivery and they even upgraded shipping for free !!! Every business in America needs to take lessons from these guys....did I mention the video on how to put this hitch on . A local dealer charged me over $450 to put a hitch on my other vehicle...............not anymore !

by:

Great product! On time shipping within w few days of ordering. This hitch was easy to install and took about 20-25 minutes. With the recessed look of this hitch, it looks to be non existing. Makes a very clean appearance to your vehicle. Make sure that your heat shield is bent in, so that the side rails of the hitch fits in it's proper location. All in all this was an easy purchase, install, and looks great to boot.
Thanks, Mike C.

by:

Trailer hitch was in perfect shape, delivered promptly and contained everything necessary to complete the job. Installation was extremely easy for both the hitch and the wiring harness. Saved ~$100 doing it myself instead of paying U-Haul. I'm not sure why I even contemplated having them do the work (of course this opinion might change if I see my BBQ smoker pass me on the highway).

by:

Great fit, easy install, looks great..... Thanks.

by:
2002 Lexus RX 300

Hitch didn't quite fit my 2002 Leuxs RX 300 the bolt holes needed to be elongated by about 1/4 in on the left side. The instructions for the wiring kit referred to instructions that were not included. The product is great, but the installation instruction instructions for the wiring kit left a lot to be desired.

by:

Not enough "Os" in smooth to describe how well this hitch and wiring package went into my vehicle. When I saw your short vids showing the item being done with step by step instructions there was no way that I could ever live with myself if I payed someone to do that for me. You made it quite easy. Thanks.

by:

Great product at a great price. It took me about 30 minutes to install this, and the hardest part was trying to balance/lift it while I got the bolts started. If I had used a partner or even a jackstand, it might have been 15 minutes. Looks great, easy to install, does its job- what more could you ask for? I guess the only downside is that someone could technically steal the hitch and whatever was bolted to it, but that seems pretty unlikely.

  • What Rise/Drop Ball Mount is Needed for 2003 Toyota Highlander to Tow U-Haul Trailer
The standard U-Haul trailer coupler height is 18 inches from the ground to the bottom of the coupler lip. And the height from the top of the Reese hitch you have on your 2003 Toyota Highlander (now part # 41541) to the ground would be 15-1/4 inches so you'd need a rise ball mount that's right at 2-3/4 inches like the Draw Tite ball mount part # 2753 with a 2 inch ball # 63845 and you'd be set!

This is because the desire for hidden hitches didn't really come out till not that long ago so the hitch manufacturers started makin them for the current vehicles of the time but didn't go back and make them for older vehicles.
