  • Crossbar Form Falcon 5250 Tow Bar Not Lining Up With Base Plates on a 2004 Scion xA
  • All Roadmaster Base Plate Kits like the XL Base Plate Kit, item # 1170-1 that you purchased, place the brackets at 28-1/2 inches apart on the vehicle. If your cross bar is the incorrect width you will need the Roadmaster Quick Disconnect Tow Bar Base Assembly, item # 910021-00. This dimension should work correctly with the Falcon 5250 Tow Bar as long as the crossbar is the original crossbar for Roadmaster base plates. You can measure your crossbar to determine if it is correct. If your...

  • Troubleshooting Excessive Tire Wear on a 2007 Ford Focus when Being Towed by a Motorhome
  • There are several possible causes for the severe tire wear you are seeing on your Ford Focus. First, if the tow bar is not level with the RVs it can put extra stress (downward force in this case) on the front of the Focus. That extra force can lead to not only tire wear but also potentially damage the tow bar and base plates. Make sure that you have the steering on the Focus unlocked so that it is free to turn when being towed. If the steering is locked, it will cause severe tire wear...

  • How to Correct Base Plate Drawbar That is Difficult to Remove from Base Plate on 1996 Saturn SL2
  • Removable arm-type base plate drawbars for your 1996 Saturn SL2, such as those in the Roadmaster # 52181-1 and the Blue Ox # BX3310 that are shown on the link at right, should not be too difficult to remove. I am concerned that the difficulty you are having removing the one drawbar could be a result of an impact or other damage. Has this system been in use for some time or is it new? If it is a new system then I urge you to take it to the place of purchase for inspection. If its been...

  • Can Older Demco Commander Tow Bar Be Used with Base Plate Kit for 2018 Chevy Equinox
  • I forwarded this to our contact at Demco and what they responded with is below. The short answer is you should already have all of the parts you need: The baseplate for the 2018 Chevy Equinox ( # DM9519332) is the Demco tabless baseplate. The 2015 Demco Commander will need to have the clevis ends removed and the baseplate # DM9519332 came with new ends to replace on the tow bar. See illustration below: The yellow highlighted parts come pre-assembled in the box with the baseplate the...

  • Adapting Swivel Collar on Tow Bar For Compatibility with MX-5 Base Plate on 2014 Jeep Wrangler
  • The Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # RM-521448-5 are a confirmed fit for your 2014 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and should fit just fine with your Falcon 5250 tow bar. I reached out to my tech contact at Roadmaster and there are different collars. The Roadmaster Replacement Swivel Collar for Falcon 2 Tow Bar # RM-9200-4 is what they recommend for your application. There will be some play but the 3/8 inch sounds excessive. This swivel collar will have a 3/4 inch diameter...

  • Are Tow Bars Supposed to be Difficult to Release when On Inclines or at Angles
  • Tow bars in general are not easily released when on an incline or at an angle. It's just the nature of how they work. The angles and inclines bind the bars up of the tow bar in the base plate kit and make the components hard to release. The release mechanism of the Falcon # RM-522 does relieve a great deal of the pressure but nothing will be easier to disconnect from than if the flat towing setup is sitting perfect straight on level ground.

  • Installation Troubleshooting of Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit
  • The Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit, # RM-521448-4, is a confirmed fit for the 2013 Jeep Wrangler. And the Roadmaster Sterling All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar, # RM-576 is a match to those base plates. Manufacturing variances occasionally cause difficulties with installation. Depending on if your vehicle has a hole on the outside of the frame or not, you may have to drill one. I have attached a video of these base plates being installed on a 2013 Jeep Wrangler. Please checkout...

  • Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Behind RV
  • The first thing you need to flat tow your 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited is a base plate kit like the Roadmaster part # RM-521440-5 which is a confirmed fit. I attached an install video for this for you to check out too. In addition to the base plates, you will also need a compatible tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking to flat tow your vehicle. The most popular compatible tow bar is the Falcon All Terrain, # RM-522. This has non-binding arms which makes the setup...

  • Base Plate Kit Solution for 2018 Jeep Wrangler JK with WJ2 Stubby Westin Bumper
  • I looked up your WJ2 Stubby Westin bumper and since it has D-rings on the front of it that would be how you'd connect a tow bar to it. You will have to measure the diameter of the holes on them though to pick out correct adapter. If the hole is 1 inch in diameter you'd want the # BX88358 or if they are 7/8 inch you'd want the part # BX88357. You'd have to use a Blue Ox tow bar with these though like the # BX7420 as there isn't an adapter for them so they can be used on a Ready Brute tow bar.

  • How to Fix Death Wobble While Flat Towing a 2018 Ford Edge
  • The Jeep fix won't work for Ford because they are different manufacturers. I did some research and it looks like you can contact your local Ford dealership for a wiring kit, or another solution I saw people talking about is using bungee cords and wrapping them around the steering wheel and your driver's seat frame to keep the steering wheel taut to help prevent that death wobble. For a complete flat towing setup you will need a base plate kit, tow bar, safety cables, vehicle tow bar wiring,...

  • Can a Flat Towing Setup Ever Be Reversed
  • You may realize this now, but you should never try to reverse a flat towing setup. Even short distances can be disastrous. If all that happened was that your Jeep tires ended up scrubbing across the pavement then you got lucky and there was no damage. But I would recommend you disconnect everything and go over everything to see if you can find any bends or other damage. Specifically look at the tow bar arms to make sure they are totally straight. If the arms are telescoping make sure they...

  • Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2017 Ford C-Max
  • Since you have a Roadmaster tow bar the correct base plate kit for your 2017 Ford C-Max is the part # 524432-1. This is what attaches to your vehicle frame to provide the attachment for your tow bar. For lighting/safety cables, locks, and covers for the tow bar we have the Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain kit part # RM-9243-1 which comes with all of that as one part number. The diode kit that comes with this allows you to splice into the taillight wiring so that your RV controls the vehicle...

  • Should Battery be Disconnected for Flat Towing a 2013 Lincoln MKX
  • According to page 152 of the owner's manual for your 2013 Lincoln MKX by putting the vehicle in accessory mode it allows some electrical accessories to still operate even though the engine isn't running. I'm not sure what needs to keep running but since the manual doesn't say anything about disconnecting the battery I don't advise doing so as it would essentially be the same as turning your vehicle off. What I do recommend doing is using the Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267 alongside the...

  • Can the 2019 VW Jetta Be Flat Towed?
  • Unfortunately, it's not quite that simple because not all FWD vehicles have transmissions that can be disengaged that will allow for flat towing. You'll want to consult your owner's manual for confirmation but from what I've found it looks like the 2019 VW Jetta, which is FWD, can only be towed on a tow dolly like the Demco Kar Kaddy # DM9713045 . For vehicles that are able to be flat towed, you need a number of components in order to flat tow including base plates, a compatible tow bar,...

  • What Would Cause Hitch Ball to Wear Excessively After 30 Miles
  • I spoke with my contact at Draw-Tite and he said excessive turning could wear a groove into a hitch ball if the ball is not kept well lubricated. He recommended keeping the hitch ball well lubed with a lithium automotive grease like # 58117 to reduce friction. You will also want to check up inside the coupler for any debris that may be grinding away at the ball. Also if the ball is smaller than what the coupler requires the coupler would be able to move around quite a bit and wear down...

  • The Demco 5th Wheel Rail Adapter for Nissan Titan XD OEM 5th Wheel Towing Prep Package # DM6200 have 4 wear pads that are 1/2 inch thick and 8 thinner shims that are 1/4 inch each. I reached out to my contact at Demco and he said you may need to add or remove shims to get a tighter fit. The number of shims does not need to be equal but you should have a snug fit to the bed of your truck. When that adapter is snug the movement should be less significant but small movement is expected...

  • Should Tow Bar Arms Remain Symmetrical Behind RV When Towing Toad in Straight Line
  • We do not carry the Duncan TowMatic II tow bar but in general if a tow bar's two arms are not symmetrical, meaning extended to the same length when you're pulling your toad behind the RV in a straight line, then there is likely to be an issue inside the one telescoping arm. Tow bars do require periodic maintenance and lubrication. Road grit and moisture can work their way into the arm mechanism and cause binding, such as what you're experiencing with the arm that does not fully extend. Based...

  • Potential Issues if a Demco Air Force One Braking System is Engaging the Parking Brake on a Sierra
  • I have not come across this being an issue when using the Demco Air Force One Supplemental Braking System # SM99243 in your 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 before. So I went ahead and reached out to the manufacturer to see if they have come across this before and I have included what they were able to tell me below. "It sounds like when the customer disconnects the negative cable, the truck is still finding a ground through either the tow bar or lighting cables. As a result the truck acts as if...

The Hex key (Allen key) is actually used to level the adapter, not secure it. The part that is securing the adapter in is the metal bar in the middle of the adapter, locked in place by the wing nut. If the metal bar is front to back (facing towards the cab and...
