Should Battery be Disconnected for Flat Towing a 2013 Lincoln MKX

Question:

I have a Blue ox towing system on my coach and just bought a 2013 Lincoln MKX as a towed. The owners manual says to leave the car in neutral when towing with the car in accessory position. Is it possible to disconnect the battery after that or do you need to keep the battery connected? Are there any parts to help with this?

According to page 152 of the owner's manual for your 2013 Lincoln MKX by putting the vehicle in accessory mode it allows some electrical accessories to still operate even though the engine isn't running. I'm not sure what needs to keep running but since the manual doesn't say anything about disconnecting the battery I don't advise doing so as it would essentially be the same as turning your vehicle off.

What I do recommend doing is using the Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267 alongside the Battery Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25 to ensure that the battery on your MKX doesn't die on you. This provides a maintenance charge from the battery in your motorhome to the battery on your Lincoln to help with that. I have attached some installation videos that you can reference for the installation.

Please note that for a complete flat towing setup you will need a base plate kit, tow bar, safety cables, vehicle tow bar wiring, a supplemental braking system, and possibly a high-low adapter. If you do not have all of these components just let me know and I can make some additional recommendations for you.
