Expert Answers about E-Track

  • E Track Mounting Recommendations
  • Absolutely, you can mount E track just about anywhere it will fit. We had a customer send in a picture of his E track mounted sided to side on his trailer so the pressure is across all the decking instead of just one board. You can check out the pictured I linked. I recommend using E-Track Backing Plate # e96RR when installing E track. The backing plate reinforces and improves the tie-down support of your E-track system by mounting to the opposite side of the E track (essentially sandwiching...

  • Should the Tires Sit on Top of the E-Track System When Installed in a Trailer
  • The E-track system can install any way you would like on your trailer. It is common to install the E-Tracks so the wheels of a vehicle are on top of the E-track. This allows you to use wheel nets, like part # EM58523, that attach directly to the E-track system. Many wheel nets typically have only one hook in front of the tire and one hook behind the tire. Installing the E-track system so the wheels are on top of the track rather than on the side provides more stability when transporting...

  • Can E-Track be Installed in Car Hauler for Multiple Car Widths
  • You can install the Erickson Horizontal E-Track # E19148 in any manner you like, so for a car hauler that has cars of different widths you can place E-track side-by-side, as you can see one of our customers did in the accompanying photo. This E-track is only 5-1/8" wide so you can install numerous different tracks to meet as many widths as possible. For additional support I do recommend using the E-Track Backing Plate # BPEZ during your install. This would be the best option and then you...

  • Erickson Vertical E-Track E19146
  • I have a solution for you, but the Erickson Vertical E-Track # E19146 only comes in sections 4 feet long. There are no vertical E-tracks that are shorter. However, the E-tracks can be cut to fit the length needed for your trailer. The # E19146 with the Rackem Spare Tire Carrier for E-Track # RA-16HST will work well for your trailer. Since the E-track will be a smaller section, you will want to ensure that it is secured to either the trailer frame or with backing plates, like # e96RR,...

  • Using Erickson Horizontal E-Track for Securing 2 Sport Quads on 12 Foot Trailer
  • E-track is very versatile and comes in different lengths so you can choose what best fits your needs. If you plan on using the e-track to only tie-down your sport quads, it can work well to have the e-track in the middle of the trailer for a tie-down point. However, it you think you will use the e-track to transport other cargo and will need more tie-down options, using 2 rows of e-track will work better. I spoke with one of my co-workers and he says he uses a single row of e-track to...

  • Can Galvanized Steel E-Track Install on Galvanized Steel Trailer
  • You can definitely install the galvanized steel e-track on your trailer that has a galvanized steel floor, as really the only potential issues are when installing e-track on dissimilar metals. So you can absolutely install any of the following e-track without issue: - 3' Long: etrailer Horizontal E-Track - Galvanized Steel # e35VR - 4' Long: etrailer Horizontal E-Track - Galvanized Steel # e95VR - 5' Long: etrailer Horizontal E-Track - Galvanized Steel # e45VR To install the e-track...

  • Should E-Track Be Attached to Trailer Frame for Installation
  • When installing an E-track, such as # E19148, it is always best to attach the track to the trailer's main structural components, such as the frame, when possible. The frame will provide the best support for the system. The E-Track Baking Plate # e96RR works well to help reinforce the E-track when the frame is not located in the area where you need to install your E-track. The installation process for the E-track can vary on a trailer to trailer and cargo to cargo basis. To be sure your...

  • How Far Apart Should E-Track be Mounted to Secure a Harley Ultra
  • There is no set distance apart that the E-Track, such as # E19148, has to be mounted. If it were me I would place them so that they are about an E-track's width apart wider than the widest part of the bike on each side. So for example if the bike 36 inches wide and the E-Track is 5-1/8 inches wide I would place the E-Track so there is 46-1/4 inches between them. I also recommend picking up several tie-downs, # E59143, to secure straps such as # EM34416 to the E-Track.

  • Can the E-Track Cargo Control # E19148 be Mounted at Different Heights
  • The E-Track can be mounted at any height that you need. I have attached a photo that was submitted by one of our customers with the tracks at different heights on his trailer for you to check out. For the best support, I recommend attaching the E-Tracks to as many frame supports as possible in the walls or on the floor. You may also be interested in the E-Track Plastic End Cap, # ET8730, to cover the metal edges at the ends of the tracks.

  • What Is Recommended Spacing Needed When Installing E-Track By Welding
  • Since there is not a set rule on the fastener spacing, it would really depend on the amount of stress you think there will be on the E-Track. The more locations that the track is secured the better. Unless the track will be under a tremendous amount of stress I don't think a solid weld the length of the track is necessary. The same rule applies if using bolts or screws to mount the E-track. The holes are spaced 2 inches apart center to center.

  • Mounting E-Track for Hauling Motorcycle on 8 x 5 Trailer
  • That's a great question. I believe your installation method for the Erickson Horizontal E-Track # EM59150 sounds like a great plan as long as you have the tracks facing the direction of travel. Basically the E-Track was designed around this and that is the most safe way to secure cargo. To secure your 900 lb bike you can either use the Erickson E-Track Tie-Off w/ D-Ring # E59143 with your current ratchet straps or you can update to the Erickson E-Track Strap with Ratchet # EM59136 which...

  • Using The E-Track Trailer Cargo Control # EM59150 On Trailer To Secure ATVs and Motorcycles
  • Installing the E-Track Trailer Cargo Control, part # EM59150, would work well to strap down your ATVs and motorcycles on your V-nose trailer. You could mount the E-Track sideways or perpendicular to the trailer frame over the floor as you described. The E-Track can also be mounted on the wall of trailers, so perhaps you could mount the track for the ATVs on the floor towards the front of the trailer. Then you could mount track on the trailer walls for the motorcycles or on the floor as...

  • What Size Fasteners Should be Used to Install E-Track Inside of a Box Truck
  • On the E-Track # E19148 the mounting holes are 1/4 inch in diameter so you will need to have fasteners that have a head larger than that, are long enough to go through where you are mounting the track, and are appropriate for the material you are mounting the E-Track to. You will not have to remove the plywood so long as the E-Track is attached to a reinforced part of the wall (frames, support structures, etc.). I have included a link to a video review for you. If you need a backing plate...

  • How to Install E-Track Cargo Control on Plywood Floor in Cargo Van
  • Erickson E-Track Trailer Cargo Control tracks come in various lengths, such as the 5-foot horizontal track, part # E19148. We also offer a 2-foot length, part # EM59150. To install them in your cargo van on its plywood floor you can use either galvanized or stainless steel nuts and bolts to avoid issues with rust. The plywood layer on the floor of your van by itself may not be strong enough to hold the E-Tracks. To be safe you need to find points in the van floor where you can safely...

  • Installing Erickson E-Tracks for Use on Car Hauler Trailer
  • If you are looking to use Erickson E-Track on a car hauler trailer you do not have to flush-mount the tracks. They can be secured to the trailer's decking with fasteners appropriate for the decking material (a minimum of 2 fasteners per linear foot on each side of the E-Track). It is perfectly okay to have the tires rest on the tracks since they are each rated for 6000-lbs. We offer the Erickson E-Track Wheel Tie-Down Strap # EM58523 that you can use with the tracks.

  • Enclosed Trailer Wall Reinforcement for Installing Erickson E-Track
  • To install an 8-foot length of Erickson E-Track # E19135 inside your enclosed trailer I do recommend first mounting some plywood to your interior wall studs. A piece of plywood that is larger than the E-Track's 5-1/8-inch width will spread the load across more of the trailer structure. For instance if you first installed a 1 x 8-foot piece of plywood across the studs that would allow more fasteners to be used than with the E-Track rail alone. Then you could mount the E-Track to the plywood...

  • Can Horizontal E-Tracks Be Secured to Vertical E-Tracks
  • In order to install horizontal E-Tracks, like the etrailer # e42VR, you're going to have to install supports inside your trailer to fix them to. According to my research that CellTech wall isn't solid enough to drill into which is why supports are needed. Unfortunately there isn't a way to properly secure horizontal E-Tracks to the vertical E-Tracks already in your trailer.

  • Where to Install E-Tracks in Enclosed Trailer Carrying Polaris ATV and Motorcycles
  • Since you will be using your E-Track system, part # E19148, for transporting more than one type of vehicle, you will want to try to find mounting locations that will work for all of them. The main consideration for deciding where to mount the E-Tracks is to select locations that provide access to structural components, such as wall studs and floor supports. These structural elements of your trailer will serve as the backbone of your E-Track system. It is important that the tracks mount...

  • Mounting the Erickson Vertical E-Track to the Side Wall of an Enclosed Trailer
  • When mounting vertical e-track, like # E19146, the type of hardware used will depend on what the material of the surface is made of that you are mounting the e-track on. If you are mounting tracks on a standard plywood surface then you could you 1/4 inch wood screws. However, if the surface you're working with is sheet metal, then you would need to use a fastener that is rated for use on metal surfaces. The e-tracks do not come with hardware because of the different possibilities of...
