Our installers removed the rear cargo liner and routed the wire from one side of the vehicle to the other through the trunk and spare tire area.
The panel you have open in your photo should allow access to the back side of your taillights. There may be a small piece of foam you need to remove and replace when finished. Many vehicles will have grommets somewhere in the rear cargo area that will allow you to route wires to the underside of the vehicle. The grommets are typically found behind the rear trim panels, in the spare tire well, or under the threshold.

To install the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56386 power you really need to run that wire up to the battery on your 2010 Volvo XC70. Any other circuit on your vehicle (like the cigarette lighter) won't have a high enough amperage rating to handle the lights on your trailer. No. The 7-Way end in the # 47405 adapter is made for the North American style of 7-Way round pins. A European 7-Way, see picture, has separate turn signals and brake lights and a circuit for fog lamps. The tail lights are also separate.

The way that we rate installation is by how long it takes from start to finish to install the trailer hitch. For Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75916 we estimated that it will take at least 100 minutes to install it on a 2010 Volvo XC70. If the running lights are on all the time, even the rear tail lights, then it should be easy to find the one wire that is hot all the time. So what you would do is basically find the wire you think it might be when the vehicle is on. Then turn the vehicle off and remove the key. If the tester also goes off when the car goes off but comes back on when the car comes on then that must be the running light circuit.
