I will be happy to explain the installation of Curt trailer hitch # 13266 for your 2008 Volvo XC70. I have also linked the instructions and a video showing an example installation for you.
Step 1
Remove rear bumper fascia. Disconnect back-up sensor wiring if present. Remove (2) fasteners with a T20 Torx bit from the rear of the vehicle. Note: Some models may require removal of (4) fasteners.
Then open the rear hatch and remove two rubber hatch stops.
Next remove the 4 or 5 screws (each side) from the plastic wheel well molding. Gently pull the plastic fascia away from the wheel well molding.
Continue to remove the fascia. At the tail light pull gently rearward. Pull gently on the fascia until the rear fascia is completely removed from the vehicle. Note: Disconnect electrical harness (if present) before completely removing fascia.
Step 2
Loosen the towing eye. Remove the (2) bolts retaining the inside appearance panel at the rear of the hatch.Loosen the towing eye under the appearance panel, rear passenger side (1 bolt).
Step 3
Remove bumper beam in 6 places using a 13mm socket. (Continue to loosen the towing eye as needed to remove the bumper beam.)
Step 4
Place hitch into bumper beam aligning holes and raise hitch/bumper beam into position. Use the supplied spacers if there is a raised edge on rear face of the end panel. Install the supplied M10 bolts and conical tooth washers. Hand tighten driver side and lower passenger side bolts (all if the tow hook is non-removable).
Step 5
Re-install towing eye (sandwich hitch, bumper beam and towing eye). Hand tighten bolts (6).
Step 6
Torque all M10 fasteners to 45 foot pounds.
Step 7
Retighten towing eye hook from inside vehicle, torque to 45 foot pounds.
Step 8
Replace the (2) bolts that retain the inside appearance panel at rear of tailgate.
Step 9
Using a rotary tool, carefully cut out the fascia on the bottom inside fascia. Locate the bottom center of the fascia and trim as shown in the instructions. Note: Area marked on fascia is trim
outline for factory Volvo hitch if shown. Exhaust heat shield may also need trimming around receiver tube. Note: trim dimensions are approximate. Confirm fit prior to trimming.
Step 10
Reinstall fascia.
