The Stealth Hitches Hidden Rack Receiver part # SH79VR is what I recommend for a 2018 BMW X5. The rack receiver does not require tools to be removed/installed and it can be locked unlike the EcoHitch Stealth Trailer Hitch Receiver part # EH44FR. The install instructions for the Stealth hitch are also more detailed. view full answer...
The EcoHitch # 306-X7265 and # EH44FR have one real difference between them. The # EH44FR is designed for vehicles with a backup sensor and the # 306-X7265 is designed for vehicles without a backup sensor. Outside of this and a slight difference in appearance they are the same. You will need to choose the correct hitch based on whether or not your X5 is equipped with the backup sensor. view full answer...
I would be happy to help you and answer your questions. I read that review and checked with Draw-Tite it looks like that problem is an isolated incident. It sounds like there was either a manufacturer defect or more likely an error made during installation that would have caused the receiver to angle downwards. I have attached a picture of this hitch receiver installed on a 2020 BMW X5. This is a Class III trailer hitch with a 2" receiver and is designed to hide the crosstube so all you... view full answer...
For your 2014 BMW X5 the two 4-pole wiring kits you referenced, hard-wire kit # C59236 and the ZCI no-splice kit # 119250KIT, both will provide the same basic lighting signals for a trailer but they differ a lot in price and in the nature of their installation.
The ZCI kit is ideal for those with a leased vehicle that cannot be modified, for those that simply have no interest in cutting into the wires of their premium vehicle and for those that may soon change cars and wish to avoid having... view full answer...
The Yakima FullBack 2 Bike Rack part # Y02634 and the FullBack 3 Bike Rack part # Y02633 are both fits for your BMW.
Both Yakima FullBacks are loaded with features and include integrated bike and rack locks, which provides improved security. They both have 35lb per bike capacities but the FullBack 3 is limited to a total capcity of 90 pounds.
I've included a video review of the FullBacks for you to see how they work. Remember, you can carry 2 bikes on the 3-bike rack so if you think... view full answer...
Between the two trunk-mounted bike racks you asked about for your 2016 BMW X5, the Thule Gateway Pro 2-Bike Rack # TH88VR and discontinued Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top 2-Bike Rack HRF2, the better overall bike rack is the Thule Gateway Pro # TH88VR.
The Gateway Pro adds the best stability and security for your bikes while also being the easiest to use. The Gateway Pro is simpler to install due to its lever system that allows you to more easily adjust the rack, it is lighter so it is easier... view full answer...
The fact that the ball mount was a little loose in the previous Curt hitch you had was more a product of manufacturing tolerances than it was an indication that the Curt hitch was lacking in quality in some way.
Both the inside dimension of the receiver tube and the outside dimension of the ball mount's shank are manufactured so that they fall into a given range or tolerance. The receiver tube will always be a bit larger than 2 inches square, while the ball mount or accessories' shank... view full answer...
There is no real difference between the two. The # 119250KIT that we offer is the Tekonsha 119251 packaged with a circuit tester that makes it easier to identify which taillight harness wire carries which lighting function. view full answer...
Although the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, part # 75600, and the Curt Trailer Hitch, part # 13077, are both great hitches that both have a 6,000 lb max Gross Trailer Weight and a 600 lb max Tongue Weight, I recommend going with the Draw-Tite # 75600.
The reason that I recommend the Draw-Tite # 75600 over the Curt # 13077 is because the Curt hitch requires that you use a stabilization strap, like part # 18050, for any non-trailer loads like bike racks and cargo carriers per the Curt warranty.... view full answer...
The Curt # 13077 and Draw-Tite # 75600 are both at a weight rating where it could be considered a class III or IV. A class III is rated up to 6,000lbs with up to 600lbs of tongue weight. While a class IV is rated higher there is not a specific number that a receiver must have to be a class IV. You do often see receivers which will say class III/IV since they fall into this similar style weight rating where some manufactures will consider it class III while another will rate it as a class... view full answer...
The difference between the Modulite Power Converter 5-Way Flat part # 119177KIT and the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 119250KIT is that the ZCI kit has clamp on sensors that receive signal from the tail light wires without actually splicing into them whereas the Modulite kit will need to physically splice into the wires in order to receive a signal from the tail lights. The ZCI kit also has a 4-way trailer connector and the Modulite has a 5-way trailer connector. However,... view full answer...
Comparing Yakima and Thule is really like comparing Nike and Adidas. When it comes to the Thule Gateway # TH88VR and the Yakima FullBack # Y02634. These are both great bike racks that include a cable lock integrated into the rack, so your bikes are secured to the rack at all times. view full answer...
