Question:

Deciding between wiring harness part # C59236 vs. ZCI Item # 119250KIT In 2 different areas of the site, each kit is recommended for the same make/model, so I am confused which to order. Can you make a recommendation for best purchase?

For your 2014 BMW X5 the two 4-pole wiring kits you referenced, hard-wire kit # C59236 and the ZCI no-splice kit # 119250KIT, both will provide the same basic lighting signals for a trailer but they differ a lot in price and in the nature of their installation.

The ZCI kit is ideal for those with a leased vehicle that cannot be modified, for those that simply have no interest in cutting into the wires of their premium vehicle and for those that may soon change cars and wish to avoid having to buy another harness for that new car. The ZCI is a truly universal product and it can be moved to your next car, and your next car after that, if you happen to change vehicles often.

The hard-wire kit has a lower in price and is great for those who do not mind the cutting and splicing of the car's wiring and for those who have no intention of removing the kit once it is installed. It really is a matter of budget, personal preference and the timeline before your next car.

I linked installation videos for both wiring kits. I suggest having a look at these since this may help break the tie. Both products come from Tekonsha, who in our experience makes the most reliable wiring products we sell.
