You can install your Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 in your 2005 GMC C4500 Topkick, but, your vehicle does not have a brake controller port, so there is no adapter. They can handle the weight of the car no problem but looking at the picture you provided I do no think the angle of the ramps will be low enough to let the car get on the flat bed without bottoming out.

I first recommend making sure that your trailer brake controller is properly adjusted. On most controllers, you are able to adjust the settings to control the amount of power that is initially supplied to the brakes on the trailer. I am not too familiar with the Journey HD unit, but your manual should list the specific steps needed to adjust this setting.

The P2, # 90885, is a proportional controller that applies the trailer brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. The braking on the trailer can be adjusted by adjusting the gain up or down as needed and by setting boost to the appropriate level based on the weight of the trailer.

According to my contact at Curt, you could use the Gooseneck Flat Plate, # C65500, and mount it directly to the bed, assuming the bed is at least 1/4 inch thick steel, on your 1996 GMC TopKick Lo-Pro. In order to mount the flat plate to the bed you will need to use at least six 1/2 inch Grade 5 mounting bolts. By using this installation method, he can not guaranty the exact weight capacity but it should be close to 20,000 pounds.

No, there isn't really a chance that the stock GM brake controller fried the HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator part # HBA16 as it could not provide nearly enough voltage to do so. If you have checked the wiring then the issue is most likely inside the actuator. According to my contact at Reese, their Low-Profile 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # RP30054 has a base that measures 17- x 28-inches. The four mounting holes' centers are spaced at 15-inches front-to-back and 25-inches left-to-right.
