I checked out the owner's manual for a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer and according to this, the vehicle can only be transported on a tow dolly. The only models we offer a tow dolly for are front wheel drive as these can be towed from the front with the front wheels off the ground. The other models will either need to have the rear wheels or all wheels off the ground. I recommend checking out page 6-23 if you need further clarification.

I have a solution but with the spoiler on the Lancer you will not be able to safely carry bikes using a trunk mount rack. Instead the SeaSucker Mini Bomber Roof 2 Bike Rack part # Item # 298-BM2006 will allow you to carry 2 bikes or the SeaSucker Bomber Roof 3 Bike Rack part # 298-BB3008 to carry three bikes. The short answer is you don't! The longer answer is that there will also be a block fishwired in and the bolt will go through the block and the hole in the frame. The block prevents the bolt from turning because it can't fully rotate within the frame. The block has a square hole in it and the bolt head has a square part that will fit in that square hole so the bolt also cannot spin within the block.

I did some research on the spoilers on the 2008 Mitsubishi GTS and based on what I saw it looks like the only trunk mount that is going to work is the Hollywood Racks Over-the-top rack, # HRF2. This rack is built with an extra extension that will put the top straps of the rack over the spoiler so as not to interfere with it.

By 'fairing', I'm assuming you're speaking of the tall spoiler on the rear trunk lid. The spoiler is what creates the fit problem that rules out almost all the bike racks I've looked at, but I've found an option that my Saris representative tells me will fit, the Saris Bones # SA803 will work. . This rack has enough height to reach over the spoiler and attach securely.

We haven't had any reports of the Yakima HangOut3 part # Y02638 causing vehicle damage.
