  • Troubleshooting Trailer Running Lights That Do Not Work on Wiring Harness in 2008 Honda Element
  • Thank you for your hitch purchase earlier this year. When some trailer lights work, such as the brake and turn lights, but the running lights do not work properly, the most common cause is a weak ground connection. This is because a weak ground will be able to pass enough current to operate lights that come on sometimes, such as turn and brake lights, but NOT enough current to also operate the always-on running lights. If a certain function does not work at all at any time then it is likely...

  • Troubleshooting Hopkins Tail Light Converter Not Getting 12 Volts Power on the Vehicle Side 4-Way
  • I recommend checking the ground connection on the Hopkins Tail Light Converter Kit # HM48925 as it may not be making sufficient contact with a suitable ground connection. To ensure it is not the ground connection you can run a temporary jumper wire to the battery negative terminal and retest your voltage. This would also explain why the lights are even dimmer when the headlights are on. Be sure to check the voltage going into the converter to ensure that you are getting 12 volts from your...

  • Trailer Running Lights Do Not Work When Towing with 2003 Honda Element
  • All of the trailer wiring harnesses for the 2003 Honda Element (# 118336, # C55336, and # 43105) plug into the factory connection point on the vehicle. This makes me think that the issue could be a blown or missing fuse. Check the vehicle owners manual for the fuse locations for towing or trailering to see if any are blown or missing. You can test the wiring harness by following the help article I have linked to the right. If everything checks out on the vehicle then it indicates a problem...

  • Trailer Lights Stopped Working When Connected to 2004 Honda Element
  • It may not be a fuse that is blown but it could be a converter box. The trailer wiring harnesses for the 2004 Honda Element, see link to the right, all have converter boxes. If there is a short on the trailer wiring or in the vehicle wiring that can blow the converter box. It can also happen if the trailer lights draw more power than what the harness is rated for. A regular plug and play type of harness # 118336 just plugs into the factory connection point. Be sure to check the connection...

  • Battery Dead After T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness With 4-Pole Flat Instal
  • I suspect something is drawing constant power may be the cause of the battery going dead after your installation. I recommend using a circuit tester # PTW2992 on your new 4-way to see if any function has constant power when the lights are supposed to be off. While testing and if you observe a function has constant power the harness is likely bad. You mentioned the alert about the rear hatch being open. If you disconnect the new 4-way harness, does this alert go away?
