With a Class I trailer hitch on your 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse, you should only use the ball mount that is recommended for use with the trailer hitch. The fit of a tow bar will depend on the base plates available for the car. I did some checking and it looks like your 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse V6 with a 5 speed can be flat towed as-is. At this time though we only have base plate kits that fit the Spyder/convertible versions of your vehicle. For that you'd want the Blue Ox kit part # BX1964 that you referenced.
