The T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118539 is the correct harness for your 2014 Jeep Compass. The connector you removed is only for the brake/running light on your tail light. The 6 pin connector which attaches your tail light to the vehicle is on the bottom of the tail light. This is the connector you need to attach the 4-way harness to. Are you speaking of the Tekonsha Prodigy RF? If so, the trailer connector on the vehicle needs funtional lighting circuits and a 12-volt constant power supply to the pin on the 7-way trailer that's in the 1:00 position. Assuming that you're using an adapter such as the # 37185, you'd plug the 4 pin plug on the adapter into the corresponding plug on the vehicle, ground the white wire to the vehicle chassis or frame and extend the black wire so it'll reach the vehicle's positive battery terminal.... view full answer...

To install the Curt Class II # C12174 hitch on a 2018 Jeep Compass, you won't need to cut a hole in the bumper itself, but you WILL need to cut a 2-5/8 x 2-1/2 inch notch in the bottom of the bumper cover/fascia as shown in step # 5 of the linked installation instructions.

Because of the way the muffler sits transversely behind the rear bumper, it's not possible to install a hitch on a 2nd generation Compass without temporarily dropping the exhaust. The exhaust tips and muffler will prevent you from accessing the frame mounting points on the passenger side.
As you can see in the installation video for the Draw-Tite # 76144, the installation isn't too terribly difficult. I'll also link to a video showing the typical process to easily lower an exhaust.

You are correct. If you don't have brakes on your trailer then you can just use the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7 as an adapter and then only connect the 12V power to the battery on your 2018 Jeep Compass to help maintain your battery level. I do recommend routing the brake controller wire from the 7-Way at least up to the engine compartment though since this is duplex wiring. This will make it easier to install a brake controller if you need to do so in the future.

The Hopkins 4-way connector, part # HM48205, uses white for ground, brown for the running lights, green for right side (passenger) turn signals and brake lights, and yellow for left side (driver) turn signals and brake lights. This is the standard wire coloring for trailer wiring, but just because it's standard doesn't make it law.

The Draw-Tite # 36598 will install onto a 2021 Jeep Compass without modification to the rear bumper or fascia. Sometimes after installing a trailer hitch the exhaust cannot be reinstalled in the same location without touching the trailer hitch. Trimming the fascia on a 2010 Jeep Compass, is only required on the Rallye Edition model. This does include the Draw-Tite # 75712. If you do not have the Rallye Edition, you will not have to do any trimming to install any of the available hitches. Yes, the tail lights on your 2017 Jeep Compass will still work like normal even if the trailer wiring harness power is interrupted or something else happens to it (such as a short from the trailer). If you don't already have a 4-Way connector on your 2017 Jeep Compass and your cargo will be covering the lights on your Compass then I do recommend installing a 4-Way. Since you already have a trailer hitch a hitch mount cargo carrier would be much more easy to use that piling your cargo on your roof.
