I recommend the etrailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitch item # e98882. This does not have an anti-rattle feature because the Roadmaster High-Low Adapter item # RM-048-2 has a solid shank design. You need to have the end of the ball mount open for a anti-rattle hitch pin like item # 63232 to work.

Trailer hitches sometimes have higher towing capacities when you use a weight distribution system with them like the Curt Hitch part # C13284. What a weight distribution system does is use spring bar leverage to distribute some of the trailer's tongue weight up to the front axle of the tow vehicle which ends up reducing rear suspension sag, improves handling, and braking. We have not yet had a local customer bring in a 2016 Mazda CX-9 for a hitch install but I can give you some help in determining the installed position for a hitch.

From the center of the hitch pin hole to the back part of the shank measures 2" for the Draw-Tite Ball Mount # 36071. While the Draw-Tite does fit a 1-1/4" hitch receiver, it's designed for at least a Class II receiver which is why that end portion is a little longer. Some Class I trailer hitches have a stop built in which will keep this option from working.

The towing capacity of any vehicle is determined by the auto maker and generally does not increase from adding aftermarket parts. Yes, adding a transmission cooler to a vehicle that will be towing will certainly reduce thermal stress on that particular vehicle system but this does not mean that any given vehicle can tow more weight just because you add such a cooler.

As you can see by clicking on the provided video link, when we installed the Curt # 13575 on the 2010 CX-9 we found that the hitch pin hole to bumper dimension is 4-3/4 inches. The 2009 model should be similar.

No, it doesn't but I have a less expensive one that does. For your 2023 Mazda CX-9 you will want the Draw-Tite Hitch item # 76020. This hitch is custom fit and bolts to your Mazda with included hardware.
I really like this hitch because it mounts behind the rear bumper cover leaving only the 2" receiver visible. It also has a built in tab that makes it easy to connect a wiring harness using the Mounting Bracket 4-Pole Flat item # 18144.
