Grille insert # P84126 will fit over the existing grille on your 2002 Chevy Avalanche. It uses the hardware pictured. Bascially, you will put the insert in position. The U-shaped clamps will go around the back of the factory grille and you will use the long screws and allen key in the per-existing locations on the insert to essentially clamp the new insert to the factory grille. Your standard grade 5 half inch coarse threaded bolt has a clamping force of around 9,000 or more pound force and a 1/2 inch grade 5 coarse threaded bolt has a tensile strength of 120,000 pounds per square inch.

I took a look at the installation manual for your Aries Oval Nerf Bars w/ Custom Installation Kit - 6" Wide - Black Aluminum - 91" Long, part # AA4445003. It seems like the adjacent small hole was only used to align the clip you are supposed to insert. I would continue with the installation as if the hole was there. We can help you get your brake controller wired up with no problems. The 2010 Chevrolet Avalanche does not have a plug under the dash, but the wires are already ran. You only need to splice the brake control wires together with those already present under the dash. The wires are found under the left side of the instrument panel to the left of the steering column.

The stoplight switch wire should be a light blue wire on your 2008 Chevy Avalanche. This would get run to the black wire of the brake controller. This wire would be in the pre wired bundle of your vehicle and would not require you to tap into the brake pedal wiring.
The red wire on your vehicle should be the 12 volt power circuit and would get run to the black wire of the controller.

The return line is typically the bottom line, but you should confirm by doing the following.
Start cold engine, place the transmission in drive for about 10 seconds, then shift back to park and shut motor off.
Then, feel the upper and lower transmission lines. One line should be noticeably cooler than the other. The cooler of the two lines would be the return.

Since breakaway kits attach to only the 12 volt accessory circuit of the trailer wiring under normal circumstances and not the brake controller output circuit like what the brake controller is connected to there would be no backfeeding issue.
In the event of the breakaway kit getting activated and it putting 12 volts on the brake output circuit the trailer wiring would be at that point disconnected from the vehicle so again there wouldn't be any backfeeding.

The wire bundle should be there, even on a 2009 Chevy Avalanche. There is a connector block to the left of the brake pedal against the fire wall. Directly above this block is where you will find the wires tucked out of the way. There should be five wires in the bundle: red, light blue, black, dark blue, and brown. It sounds like your trailer has the 6-1/2 inch Oval stop turn and tail lamps and some side marker lamps that use a rubber grommet like the 6-1/2 inch oval tail lights grommet, # A70GB.
Since the area where your lights are mounted is not accessible from the back side, you will need to pry the light out of the front of the grommet with a small screwdriver or other similar tool. I did some digging and it looks like the instrument panel contains blunt cut wires near the data link connector for the trailer brake controller on a 2013 Chevy Avalanche. The harness bundle contains the following wires:
-Dark Blue: Brake Signal to Trailer Connector
-Red/Black: Battery
-Light Blue/White: Brake Switch - (2007 Avalanche will be Light Blue)
-White: Ground

Your Avalanche should be prewired for a brake controller. Check the fuse panel in the engine compartment. Remove the outer and the inner fuse box cover, and on the inboard side of the fuse box, you'll see two threaded studs.
