Create a stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight distribution system.

Unique Features of Blue Ox SwayPro

Blue Ox SwayPro Spring Bars

Unlike other weight distribution systems, the SwayPro has automatically locking brackets throughout. Both spring bars insert, slotted side up, into the head assembly and then lock securely in place. Removal is just as easy - simply lift the locking pins on the trunnions and slide the bars out. Blue Ox spring bars are interchangeable with each other. If you buy a new trailer or tow vehicle and you need to increase or decrease your capacity, you can simply buy new spring bars instead of purchasing a whole new system.

Blue Ox SwayPro Rotating Latch Brackets

Other systems have lift brackets that require you to apply a good amount of leverage to get them to snap up, which can be difficult and frustrating. With the SwayPro, all you have to do is insert the lift chain into the bracket slot and rotate the bracket with the included wrench until the lock pin engages.

Another feature of the SwayPro is the easy-to-use head. The required pitch is already built into the head, so the only adjustment that may be needed is the placement of the head on the shank. Move the head up or down along the weight distribution shank to achieve the proper height. No additional, fine-tune adjustment is needed, which means no hard-to-access washers or difficult-to-use thumbscrew.

Built-In Tension Stops Sway

Blue Ox SwayPro System with Built-In Sway Control Hooked Up

The SwayPro offers four points of built-in sway control. Within the head assembly, the trunnions are designed to hold the spring bars securely in position, placing just enough tension on them to cause them to constantly force your trailer in line. At the other end of this weight distribution system, the rotating brackets ensure that the lift chains are pulled as taut as possible. In addition, the basic design of the brackets keeps much of the length of the lift chains wrapped up inside of the brackets. Typically, only a couple of links hang down from each bracket. So each chain is held more stable than in traditional weight distribution systems, where more than twice as many links are exposed. This tight, stable design limits the movement of the spring bars so that they can exert more force on your trailer to effectively keep it from shifting side to side. Furthermore, unlike many friction-style sway controls, the SwayPro allows you to back up your trailer without having to remove or disengage the system.

Product arrives in excellent condition, all parts included. Service was excellent which brings me to the loss of 1 star.

Hitch ball was purchased however etrailer will not mount and in the Blue Ox requires a socked to tighten the recessed nut to 450 ft lbs
It would have been nice to have received the until with hitch ball mounted and torqued to spec.
Now I’m waiting for my [online box store] order to arrive.

In addition I informed the sales person I needed a 15k ball he chose the long shank version. Don’t know yet but I hope my ordered socket will have enough depth to complete the install or another ball or socket will have to be resourced.

I purchased the Blue Ox Sway Pro (15,000 lbs GTW) clamp on to pull my 14K tilt bed PJ T6 trailer. The trailer is a 6 inch C channel frame trailer. I worked with Troy who was very helpful and assured me that I would get the Blue Ox in time for a trip within the next 4 days. The shipping was very fast and I received it in just 2 days. However, I did not understand the clamp on set up is only for box framed trailers. Therefore the clamp on lift brackets would not work correctly. I did not see this information anywhere on the site regarding which trailer frame type is right for the various setups (box or C channel). I called Etrailer after finding this out and was told I could purchase the bolt on lift brackets separately but I would basically eat the ones I had. So my weight distribution hitch would now cost me NOT HAPPY. Be sure to ask about the type of lift bracket attachment for your trailer frame type.

The clamps on this WDS system part # BXW1506 may not install properly on a c-channel trailer frame. c-channel frames will need the bolt on bracket option part number: BXW4021.

I purchased this hitch system to pull a 10,500 pound V-nose enclosed 8.5'x28' - 8' high trailer.
I had to purchase the 1500 pound tongue weight system and because of the cargo that's loaded. I had to cut off 3 inches of the bottom of the receiver, because it hung down to low. I pull all of this with the 2016 ford F150 Max trailer package which sits lower than a heavy duties, that's where I attribute having to cut off 3 inches because it was scraping into the ground as I drove. Other than that issue this hitch system all but removes every bit of sway up to approximately a 45 mile an hour side wind. It is so simple to back up with the system as well, not having to remove the bars is awesome. If you are trailering anything with the F1 50 you should also purchase a spring package for the rear leaves to help with the tongue load is well. Now that we worked The bugs out it is a great system and will continue to use this on all trailers until something better comes along, I could not recommend this enough !!!!

I decided to give a SwayPro hitch a try when I purchased a new TT (37' TT). The previous two Equalizer hitchs (24' TT and 33' TT) I had owned worked fine, but I hated having to stop and get out to tighten/loosen the anti-sway device when having to maneuver around and they were noisy.
I installed the SwayPro myself, it was very easy to do. The instructions are clear, and the online videos very helpful. I waited to make this review until after making a couple of trips with the trailer. The trailer is very locked in behind the vehicle and that sucking over as a large vehicle goes past was non-existent, was very surprised and happy. I expected a little of this since this trailer is taller and longer than my last ones. Love being able to remove the equalizer bars and store in the trailer compartment without worrying about getting grease everywhere. Super easy to get hooked up and ready to go.
I spent a few dollars more getting the SwayPro. Every extra dollar was worth every penny, this is a great hitch design with many advantages, wish this had been my first equalizer type hitch.

by:

Easy to install. I was very curious as to how this would work as both a weight distributing hitch and sway control all in one. I was very surprised. I have used it on 3 trips on a 4 lane highway at highway speeds and with being passed and passing tractor trailers, it performed extremely well. I would recommend to anyone wanting a weight distributing hitch and sway control in one unit.

This weight distribution system is a replacement for my original system which failed after 8 years of hauling a variety of travel trailers. I spent some time researching the type I wanted and the Blue Ox SwayPro was highly recommended by a fellow airstreamer. I was impressed with its simplicity and no additional sway control being required. The website is excellent, you just put in your vehicle details and the appropriate systems are displayed. The BXW 1506 is for 1500 lbs maximum tongue weight and comes with the eleven hole, 2” receiver hitch mount. I needed to mount with the long portion pointing down, this gave me about 4” of ground clearance. (Ideal for ripping permafrost but not state park campgrounds). The support from customer service was outstanding and the appropriate part BXW4001 was selected and shipped very quickly.
The hitch was installed using the enclosed instructions and after viewing videos on the etrailer website.
It looks good and seems to be doing what it is intended to do. I have a short camping trip in a few days so this will test the system.
Thank you etrailer for your swift knowledgeable service.

After purchasing/pulling my my 32’ weekend warrior with the supplied sway control, I was terrified by the amount of sway I was experiencing after fully loading with the toys. This Blue Ox tamed the beast 99%. Be mindful on how you distribute your load weight when overstuffing your toy hauler and you’ll have zero issues. Great product!!

by:

The Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution BXW1506 does the job very well . Unfortunately the finish does not hold up well . The rust on it makes it look much older than its one year age .

by:

I just received this yesterday, and will be using it this weekend to tow a 34 1/2' Toy Hauler home from Virginia. It is extremely heavy/well made and the powder coating looks like it was applied very well. Should be a great W.D. hitch system that will last for many years

by:

Very easy to use and adjust. Worlds of improvement over older style that I used to have. I use it without the tension bars as well almost every day for multiple trailers.

by:

etrailer.com has the e-commerce figured out. Great website. Quality products at reasonable prices. Fast shipping.

by:

installed very easy didn't want to use the 11 hole shank but to get the right ride had to use the last hole turned down that what it takes on 4wd expedition to get ball to 18 "

thanks the ride is great now

Haven’t done a long trip to compare away control. Just installed. Cons first: On an Airstream Globetrotter 25 FBT, it is impossible to get a socket in between the A frame and the battery box to use a torque wrench to measure 40 lbs when tightening the jam bolt. Plus it’s a square bolt head. But it’s only 40 lbs, so we hand tightened hard. Also, when tightening the jam bolt, the chain latch thingy (I’m tired. It’s hot out there!) moved a bit so either hang onto it really well or move it a bit before tightening down and it will move right back to its 29 inch place.

Now the pros: The whole assembly weighs far less than the equalizer we replaced. Installation was easier. No washers so once the hitch head height was determined, we only had to torque once. If we need to adjust weight distribution, we move the chain. My husband compared the two installations like this: “This was junior high math while the equalizer was like college calculus."
And, FWIW, the front and rear end difference in height for our truck and trailer was way more accurate than we could get with the equalizer. Well, maybe we could have, but we would have had to adjust the hitch head and the washers.
The cherry on top was that it was very quiet turning and backing up.

by:

Shipped as promised. Came with everything. Installed per excellent instructions.
Works very well on 21 chevy tahoe towing 6000lb 25 ft travel trailer.
Works as advertised. Havnt been in crosswinds, but trucks passing and meeting, hitch has good control. Load leveling works excellent.

by:

The weight distribution hitch that this one replaced wouldn't transfer enough weight to the front axle. This Blue Ox hitch does this perfectly, leveled the truck/trailer combination by taking weight off the rear axle and transferring it to the front axle. We pull a 28' trailer, approximately 12,000# with about 1,800# of tongue weight. We are midway through our 2nd season and it seems the bars may be getting weak. Probably will need to replace them for next season. I would recommend to the manufacture to incorporate a positive detent lock for the spring loaded cam lock pin. It's hard to keep unlock when adjusting the bar tension. Other than that it's a great system and works very well. Would buy again.

The sway bar is awesome and it works great. I gave it a 4 star because I’m somewhat disappointed with how the racket assembly mounted to my RV is rusting. The powder coating did not hold up. I do not live in a salt environment.

by:

The Blue Ox WD hitch has been great for me. What I like is 1. No hitch head angle adjustment needed. 2. No greasy trundle bars. You can store the clean bars in your outside storage without messing up your compartment 3. The large auto style lug wrench provides high leverage for pulling the chains up. 3. Unit is quiet around corners.

by:

By far the best weight distribution/sway control I've ever owned. Made a huge difference on a 24' enclosed cargo trailer with 14k GVWR. Highly recommend.

by:

Easy to use and provides the best weight distribution and sway control.

by:

I love this hitch. So I did a lot of research online A lot of people complained about their Weight Distribution Hitch(WDH) making noise or hard to install. This hitch went to Yellowstone with me (about 38 hr drive each way) with 7k cargo. Worked perfectly. The only time it made any noises is when I had to turn a tight turn. We all know WDH do not like tight turns. This one is no exception but when I say tight, I mean where the trailer tongue is inches from my bumper. It helped with sway. And it def put the weight on the front. Easy install (def watch some videos) and I recently took it off and installed on new trailer. Easy swap. Be warned. Hold that lug bar with both hands when tightening the bars. Do not allow that thing to slip. I broke my arm and was trying to use the bar. Dumb move on my part.

by:

Is is our 2nd blue ox swaypro. Used the 1st one 10 years with our Airstream and it went with the trailer when sold. On our 2nd Airstream and bought another sway pro as the first was easy and worked well. I like the minor design improvement using pins.

by:

Great customer service. Delivery was n time as well as all the contents intact. I’ve had the hitch now for almost two weeks and have put over 1500 miles of Alaskan roads. Performs flawless with my toy hauler.

  • Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution System Offering 3 Inches of Drop for Travel Trailer and 2016 Ram
For a Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution system that will offer you 3 inches of drop, you will want to use a SwayPro system that comes with the longer weight distribution shank. For example, if you need a system that is rated for up to 1,500 pounds tongue weight and 15,000 pounds towing weight, the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution with Sway Control, 13 Inch Rise/7-1/2Inch Drop # BXW1506. • Is Using an Overrated Weight Distribution System Okay
Using a Weight Distribution (WD) system that is rated too high or too low is never a good thing. Too high and your ride will be very stiff but too low and you won't see any benefit from it. Luckily we have a solution for you that does not require an adapter sleeve. Almost all of the WD shanks that we have are compatible with other WD systems because the 2" width and 1-1/4" on center mounting hole dimensions are the same for the WD heads. This system is rated for 600 to 1,200 pounds tongue weight. Based on a gross trailer weight of 9,800 pounds the trailer tongue weight will be in the neighborhood of 980 to 1,470 pounds. With that being said I can assume that the above distance on your truck is around 20-1/2". Therefore, you need a weight distribution shank with a rise of 3/4".
