An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

2018 Nissan Titan

Timbren operats flawless. About an inch of clearance after installation. Installing these on my 2018 Titan pro4x (non XD) was not a bolt on installation. The hardware provided was not the same that I took out of my truck. I had to tap the nut in the frame starting with a M8-1.25, Then tap using M9-1.25, then finish off using M10-1.5. The bolt provided did not have enough thread on it (timbren was not tight to the frame), so I made an additional 1 inch of thread to the bolt, then everything went together smoothly. Ride is just like factory, until the 1 inch gap closes. I am still happy with the timbrens despite installation.

They are fine when empty or with a heavy load but beat you to death with a light load. If I had to do it over again I would choose airbags for my application.

The jounce style Timbren springs are made of dense rubber so they can create a rougher ride. I recommend air bags for the 2021 Nissan Titan with part # AL57331. The Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 springs are designed to adjust the air pressure from 5 psi - 100 psi to adjust for a heavy or light load. An air compressor system part # AL25856 makes it more convenient to put air in the bags compared to stopping for air when you want to adjust the air pressure. This system is dual path so you can also adjust each side of the truck bed individually to balance the load. Please keep in mind these air bags are not compatible with a in-bed hitch like a fifth wheel or gooseneck.

These work like a champ. Ten minute install and removes the rear end squat straight away.

Nissan Titan

This is a great system for keeping the rear end of my 2021 Nissan Titan CC Pro-4x from sagging when carrying heavier loads and the accompanying tongue weight. Towing feels solid, even at 8k lbs+ trailer weight. After a 3" lift, I ordered spacers to make up the difference and it continues to perform well. I would definitely recommend.

Installation went good except the bolts sent with were too big to fit into the factory Nissan Titan holes. Used 13mm bolt and worked fine. Overall very pleased.

2018 Nissan Titan

PRODUCT IS GOOD, BUT THE SUPPLIED BOLTS ARE NOT CORRECT FOR MY APPLICATION AS THEY STATED THEY WOULD FIT. HAD TO FIND AND BUY NEW BOLTS. 2018 NISSAN TITAN PLATINUM RESERVE. BEST TO ADD IN THE DIFFERENT SIZED BOLTS IN THE BOX.

Easy installation. 15 mins total time. Highly recommended if tow anything.

I know it will be lovely when loaded or the trailer on. However,it rides like a wagon empty with brand new premium shocks and struts empty. Thud thud thud. You really cannot feel the shocks or suspension. Found exact same item plentiful for 60 bucks on eBay after I bought these for 250. I may cut these in half or put air bag on. I do not like the ride empty. No hard feelings. It is a good product maybe just not for me.

by:

About a 1/2 inch difference in gap at the bump stop perch but still within parameters. Truck sits perfect with trailer attached. Haven’t towed yet. After towing if they perform like they should will upgrade to a 5 star. Easy to install, definitely needed 2x4 and jack. 2011 Silverado ext cab with 30 ft Genisis 5th wheel.

by:

Was able to install these with a 15mm flex head ratchet wrench and lifted the rear of the truck to make it easier. 30 minutes to take off 4 nuts and put em back on. 2 minutes assembling the timbrens with the added spacer. I have a f350 with a salter and plow. Loaded with salt the lights shoot up and in the snow ?? it’s like hitting hyper drive and you’re blinded. These helped big time. Very happy so far.

by:

Haven’t had it on long, but so far so good. 1999 F350 dually. Bolted up nicely. Total job took 10 minutes. Have hauled two gooseneck loads of hay and truck drives SO much better. Nice and level. Money well spent so far.

by:

The pro: The longer, heavier bump stops worked great when hauling my mustang home from Chicago. The truck stayed level and handled great.
The con: I had to remove the bump stops for everyday use. They limited my suspension travel causing a stiffer ride.

by:

I am so glad I bought these for my truck. I was able to install them myself using a jack and jackstands. The ride is bit rougher now; but the suspension is totally awesome compared to before. I am able to haul a bit more weight when needed.

by:

very good product ,received just in time and fit perfectly on my GMC savana 2000 .Be sure to clean the two receptacle thats help.
très bon produit , reçu dans les délais et s'ajuste parfaitement . Assurez-vous de nettoyer le receptacle cela facilite l'installation.

by:

The timbrens actually did what they were suppose to do. However, once I starter driving out west I notice the timbrens were riding on the axle which cause the speedometer to jump around depending on the road. I would recommend them if you are hauling or towing a camper or RV. I was going to contact etrailer about maybe removing a spacer for one set however the other set came as one unit. The bottom line is the Timbrens does stabilize your load for safe travels. I will be contacting etrailer soon to assist in correcting the problem...Road trip from Idaho,Colorado,Wyoming, and Utah were beautiful... Thank you etrailer

by:

Definitely a must have when towing..stiff without a load but night and day difference while towing my travel trailer, better traction, steering and braking. Easy quick install..only issue I had was with the long bolts they sent with the spacer kit (optional for lift) the bolt diameter was too wide to fit through the holes on the bracket..but a trip to the local hardware store took care of that.

by:

Pros: Cheaper and easier to install than airbags, do the job when load is enough to compress the shock, with added weight or towing, then it stiffens the rear very nicely.
Cons: Doesn't do anything until there is 2-3cm of compressed shock. It sits above the contact point, doesn't touch. Under normal driving, there is no benefit/improved stiffness/anti sway in rear or a leveling of the factory rear sag in a 2022 or newer Toyota Tundra.
If had it to do over, would have put some kind of spacer in between product and upper included bracket, the supplied bolt is long enough to accommodate, to eliminate the gap, and lift the rear 1-2 cm. Should do it anyway, maybe when swapping to summer wheels next month.

  • Timbrens or SumoSprings. Which One is Better for a 2020 Nissan Titan 4WD?
I strongly recommend going with the SumoSprings Helper Springs item # SS95GR over Timbren's like item # TNRTTNB for your 4WD 2020 Nissan Titan. Both systems will support your rear end and keep your truck level while towing but you won't notice the SumoSprings when you are not towing. The Timbren's will be rough and stiffen up your suspension. You'll feel them going over every bump. I have linked a review video below.

  • Recommended Helper Springs for 2012 Nissan Titan Pro-4X
I'm really glad you asked because we only have one confirmed fit for the Pro-4x model. It is the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System - Rear Axle # TNRTTNB which is a jounce style enhancement rated for 6,000 lbs load support. It will give you a progressive support as it provides additional support as needed to increase stability while reducing body roll and vehicle sag. It will not change the factory ride when not hauling a load, but will engage as needed for payload and towing.

  • Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for 2017 Nissan Titan 2 Wheel Drive
For your 2017 Nissan Titan 2 wheel drive we have great suspension enhancement kits available like the RoadActive Suspension Kit part # RAS4611 but we do not have a Timbren kit or air bag kit that fits your truck due to it being 2 wheel drive. All of those fits are for the 4 wheel drive models. The RAS kit I mentioned really is a great option that I know you'll like. It gives you adjustable support like the air bag setups and is also not quite as harsh as some of the Timbren applications....

Using the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Hitch # EQ37100ET will be a great help to your 2014 Nissan Titan Pro-4X and a suspension enhancement is compatible with these systems. Between air springs and Timbrens the better option is the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System # TNRTTNB. These are designed specifically to fit your 2014 Nissan Titan Pro-4X and since suspension enhancement is only going to come into play on occasion with your weight distribution system, the Timbrens offer the...

  • Installing Timbren Rear Suspension Springs on a 2021 Nissan Titan With Rough Country Lift
The Timbren Suspension Enhancement System # TNRTTNB is designed to only fit a stock suspension height on your 2021 Nissan Titan. You can use the Timbren 1" Spacer # A25723-90AH00 to space out the Timbren for the Rough Country lift since they use lift blocks to gain your rear lift and are not using new leaf springs with different characteristics. We also have the Timbren 1/2" Spacer # TA25722-90P00 that can fine tune the height if needed.

  • Should I Use Timbren Or SumoSprings Suspension Enhancement On My 2020 Nissan Titan Pro-4X?
You are on the right track in looking for jounce springs, as this will reduce your Titan's rear sag and also improve the overall handling of the truck while reducing body roll. Jounce springs are also very easy to install and require no maintenance, unlike air bags. When deciding between Sumo Springs and Timbren, it really comes down to how much weight you will be adding to the bed of your truck. It sounds like SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs - Rear Axle # SS95GR is the kit for...

I checked with Timbren for you, and while we do have a fit for a 2020 Nissan Titan with 2-wheel drive, the part # TNRTTNB is only a fit for the 4-wheel drive 2020 Nissan Titan Pro-4X. For your '20 Titan with 2-wheel drive, I confirmed with Timbren that part that fits your truck is the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TTORTUN4. Since Timbrens are notoriously harsher than SumoSprings and the truck will be unloaded for most of the year I would recommend the SumoSprings for your 2019 Nissan Titan with the part # SS95GR. This will give you the support you are looking for without destroying your unloaded ride quality.

The Super Springs Sumo Springs Solo Custom Helper Springs # SS95GR and Timbren SES # TNRTTNB are going to provide different levels of support. For your 2017 Nissan Titan SL you will actually need the # TNRTTN and not the # TNRTTNB, which is only designed to fit on the 2017 Nissan Titan Pro-4x. This system will install on your rear axle and provide you with a great system to help reduce vehicle sag when towing or carrying heavy payloads.
