An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

Super easy install. Took maybe 20-25 minutes. I installed these on a 2022 Thor Challenger 37FH. I had read reviews about people complaining about the brake line bracket in the way. Really not a big deal, cut it off with a rotary tool, grind smooth and paint for rust protection. Road test is next.

by:
2018 Winnebago Sunstar LX Motorhome

Easy install and notable improvement in handling and ride. I installed these along with a front pair of Sumo springs.

by:

The system is working great. The only problem I had were the included bolts. They weren't threaded long enough and, therefore, couldn't be used. I had to use the old bolts and nuts to finish the installation.

by:

Does not fit on Winnebago Intent, and missing hardware. First of all, you have to move the brake lines, because these will hit right on them. Secondly, I have a Traction bar, and that leaves no room for these springs. They will run into the Trac bar hardware & tear apart. Even without the Trac bar, these are a poor fit at best. Third problem, the lightweight flimsy cardboard box has no hope of holding the heavy parts without tearing or bursting open. Additionally, the small parts (nuts, bolts, washers) are in a VERY thin cheap plastic bag that also has no hope of holding them either. So, like many other customers, several parts were NOT in the box. This is an obvious & foreseeable problem - especially since many other customers have complained about this exact same issue.
The product probably does work well - if it can fit, and if you get all the parts. But don't count on that happening.

Holiday Rambler

Great product, I installed Sumu Springs on the front of my 36 ft. Holiday Rambler last year and it help the front a great deal. I am sure these Timbren bump stops will add greatly to the sway and ride Issue, very easy to install Did the complete job in 50 minutes. Cant wait to get her on the road.

Very well, took a lot of the swaying from side to side when making turns.

by:

Worthwhile investment. Easy and simple install. Adds stability to keep RV from wanting to tip over. Same as adding a torsion bar. Needed to jack up the body, to install and after installation, Timbrens are engaged with no clearance either on top or bottom. I would purchase again if needed.

Im satisfied with the Timbren Vehicle Suspension front and rear.

by:

Best investment for suspension so far!! Had wind, semi’s and large dips in road sway our 2015 Bounder all over the road. With the timbrens installed took care of almost all of that! Big dips, Bounce one time, done. Semi’s pass no issue, Wyoming winds cuts right through!

Working great so far!

Installed these on my 30' class A motorhome, the goal was to try to soften the ride a bit. I have had air bags in the past, but were not really satisfied with them, leaks and always needing to check the pressure. The Timbren product softened the ride a little, but most of all restored ride height and most amazing to me eliminated most of the rattles in the unit, also greatly improved handling on curves and in wind.

by:
2020 FordF-53

Along with sumos in the front the Timbrens on the rear have significant improved my class a coaches ride. The Timbrens made a slightly noticeable improvement over just the sumos in the fronts when it comes to handling bumpy roads. The Timbrens however made a very significant improvement in body role. The coach handles turns better and passing trucks on the highway. I recommend the sumo front, timbren rear combo to significantly improve overall ride, comfort, handling and road noise. On my 2020 f53 the install was more challenging than just remove factory bump stops and bolt on. I had the re route a brake line sensor, trim the sensor bracket and make some spacing plates to get me a little better clearance from the sensor bracket on the axel. etrailer was great to work with as always.

by:

Just installed the Timbren suspension stabilizers on the rear of my Newmar Canyon Star 3911 motor-home. The installation was easy and simple. As the video showed, just remove the old bump stops and install the Timbren's. They are significantly larger than the stock bump stops. After having installed the Sumo Springs on the front and the Timbrens on the rear, the ride is so much better. No more swaying back and forth when a big truck passes or a crosswind. I highly recommend this combination since there is no drilling into the frame of the motor home and you do not have to remove the tires either.

by:
2022 FordF-53

Installed these with only one issue, which was on the driver side rear axle. The axle had a ABS sensor cable bracket on the axle that need to be readjusted and trimmed down. The BumpStock was hitting this bracket on one edge. So actually, it's not and exact fit. But this issue is really a FORD placement issue of that cable. So just be aware that some extra work may be needed to install them. Passenger rear side install perfectly. Next is the drive to see how much better the coach drives, heard great reviews on that

by:

Well, we said third time is the charm but not this time. I received the box on Saturday and yes, the same thing. The box was torn open on the front side seem and parts are missing,,, again. All I can say is "MORE TAPE, MORE TAPE,, MORE TAAAPE!!! I spoke to Phillip H. this morning and he is sending me just the missing parts. Hopefully it will get here in time for the next trip on July 1st. Fingers crossed!

2016 Fleetwood Southwind Motorhome

Ordered Timbren from etrailer.com on Monday and received them today (4 days). I installed them on the rear of my 2016 Fleetwood Southwind Class A motorhome. Install took an hour with a short break between sides. I’m 67 years old and it was a hot day. So I thought the install went really well. A couple of tips: Use a cordless impact wrench with deep well socket. Also I used wood shims to hold Timbrens in place while securing the bolts through the frame. A quick test drive revealed a smooth ride on the straight away. What was immediately apparent was during turns the was a noticeable decrease in body sway. I have 2 piece Sumo springs on the front. I feel like this is going to be a great combination and looking forward to hit the road!

by:

Did d not have the right bushing in the rubber bumper. Instead of sending the correct kit I received bushing and a washer that had to be pressed out and new pressed in. Took two weeks and five phone calls. Very disappointed

by:
2006 Damon Daybreak Motorhome

They are fantastic no more body swaying on corners on my 36 foot coach. When towing a trialier with 700 lbs of tongue weight no more sagging rear hitch. They are worth the money. I bought another set for my 2003 pickup.

by:

Improved overall handling by reducing the side-to-side sway caused by cross-winds, passing tractor trailer trucks and turning.

Joel

Still going strong. Absolutely no issues.

by:

Purchased front and rear suspension enhancers. They change the over all handling of our motorhome. Night and day difference, best product to enhance suspension on the market. Highly recommend, also installed in only 45 mins.

by:

I installed the Timbren front and rear suspension systems along with new Bilstein shocks on all four corners. The ride is somewhat firmer but not uncomfortable but the handling is much better and I will trade some ride comfort for better handling any day. The sway was greatly reduced. The shocks were not really necessary but I could not be certain of their condition. I would recommend the Timbren suspension. I liked that I did not have to drill the frame and the installation was fairly easy.

Very good product very easy to install. They work very well

by:
2004 Fleetwood Southwind Motorhome

Don't see $500 worth of parts. Not even close. 2 rubber bump spots and a bracket.

by:
Thor

Did NOT fit the F53 factory frame as described. They landed right on top of the brake lines and would have crushed them if completely installed. Contacted etrailer with the issue, they stated I would have to have the lines moved or bent to accommodate the new springs. Nope. Instead I wanted to return them and exchange for the double expensive Sumo springs and pay the difference. etrailer wouldn't take them back. So I was stuck with $[XX] plus of springs that I couldn't use even though the site claimed they were a direct fit for our 2014 Thor ACE. I bought Sumos elsewhere and chalked up the $[XX] loss to learning to never fully trust a vendor or their customer service department.

2005 FordF-53

Installed Timbren on my 2007 coachman Mirada , Ford F 53 chassis (2005) with a panhard bar , tight fit with the bar brackets. I spaced the Timbren away from the frame with large flat washers which gave a more comfortable clearance to brackets. Some brake line and vent hose adjustments and a hole to drill for a Factory electrical part mount . I gained 1 1/4 “ trailer hitch height , very satisfied.

Gerald

5/14/2021

The Timbren install and the panhard bar are the greatest handling improvements money can buy , the ride and handling have been improved beyond my expectations ! No wondering , no sway the motorhome drives as it should - safe and secure to the road !

by:

The install was straight forward on our 2020 Jayco Alante 31V and completed in a short time. It has made a significant positive difference in the ride, even when towing Thx much.

Easy to install on a 2018 Fleetwood Southwind 35K class A Motorhome by simply reviewing the videos. Ride difference amazing. Great product and fast delivery. Thanks etrailer!

  • Front or Rear Timbrens to Start With on 2006 Motorhome With Ford F-53 Chassis
That's a good question, and for your 2006 motorhome on a Ford F-53 chassis, the best option to start with is using the Timbrens on the rear of your motorhome: - Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TFRF53A The reason for that is a motorhome has more bounce/movement at the rear due to the axle placement compared to the front. There is a significant portion of the motorhome that is behind the rear axle compared to the front, and that causes the back end to be less stable overall....

For jounce-style suspension enhancement on your 2015 Thor Windsport 34E Motorhome I recommend going with the Timbren options because SuperSprings doesn't have a fit for your motorhome. SumoSprings and Timbrens are essentially the same thing - the only real difference is that Timbren springs tend to have a bit more rigidity which is felt in a lot of passenger vehicles but you shouldn't feel a difference (other than more support) for your Class A motorhome. For the front you'll use the Kit...
