An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

Wonderful product, was hoping theses would work so I didn't have to put air bags on truck and they exceeded my expectations. On my 2017 F250 before I installed the Timbren suspension enhancement system, my truck with stock rubber stops sit down over 3inches,but once I installed the Timbren suspension system with the same camper the truck only sit down around an inch or maybe a little less. Since I did this we traded campers with one that weight in just less than 15,000 lbs and the truck didn't change any. The truck sits level,I have no sway, braking comes from all wheels. Each time we travel (at least once or more a month)it's a joy to be to relax and enjoy the ride ,the camping and family

The springs have worked wonderfully with the truck camper. Highly recommend this product

still working! No complaints.

2019FordF-250 Super Duty

Great product, gave my f250 a little more support. No sag at all when my 38 ft 5th wheel is hooked up. Etrailer got it to me in 2 days.

by:

Easy to install on a 2024 F250. They seem to do the job with no noise or fuss.

by:
2017 FordF-250 Super Duty

Delivery was on time. Product is a perfect fit.
I've had these before and they really helped with the extra load and reduced the rear end sway.

by:
FordF-250 Super Duty

Purchased a 2023 F250 to accommodate an older Lance 815 we own. Was surprised how much "roll" this produced while driving. After the installation of the Timbren's it provided great stability and more confidence on the mountain roads.

by:

The Timbren system was straight forward and easy to install. No doubt about it. Now to see if it dampens as all state it does. My issue wasn't Etrailer shipping it in the OEM box, it was the fact they did not even take the time to tape the tab that opens up the box. It was barely inserted when I received it and it could have had pieces fall out. Just take the few seconds to tape a box up.

This product has worked very well to dampen and create a higher capacity rated frame stop over manufacturer OEM. Would certainly recommend it. We tow a fifth wheel with a rated 1700 lb pin weight but it is a bit more after loading. The Timbrens barely contact the frame.

by:

I am happy with the product. However not happy with etrailer. After I ordered my part the part went on sale before I received my order. etrailer would not work with me on the sale price, so I do not use etrailer anymore

2019FordF-250 Super Duty

I really like these Timbren bump stops. I think the best thing about them is the simplicity, both how they work and how easy the install was. I bought these when I added a dump insert (similar to a salt spreader) into my 2019 F-250. I have loaded this truck heavy before with dirt and the truck sagged tremendously and had a lot of body roll. To prevent this with the now added dump insert, I installed these. Super easy to install! Took maybe 30 min. It reduces body roll and seems to improve the ride depending on how loaded the truck is.

One unfortunate consequence to the install is that the Timbrens brought to light that I have a weak leaf spring on my passenger side, which was suspect previously.

Overall, I'm very pleased with this purchase and would buy again!

by:
2019FordF-250 Super Duty

These work great. I got them originally for a travel trailer and for loading down the bed of the truck. Since then we have gotten a 5th wheel, and these make a world of difference. I even talked a guy into getting a set of these for his truck at the snow plow shop (front, not the rears). Which reminds me, I have them on all 4 corners now. Even the RV store recommends Timbren, which I noticed yesterday.

Excellent quality. Easy to install. And work like a charm! Highly recommend this product to anybody that hauls heavy loads and doesn’t want their vehicle squatted down.

by:
2020 FordF-250 Super Duty

Truck Squatting was reduced from 3" to 1" after the the install. The difference in ride quality while pulling my trailer is very noticeable. I did not give it 5 stars due to poor packaging and missing bolts.

Fantastic news that it worked for you. Not so fantastic news that it was missing hardware. Customer Service will be in touch with you.

by:

I have used these for over a year now and I am constantly amazed how this simple part works as well as it does. I have a 36 foot 5th wheel that has about a 1 1/2" squat when I hook it up. The load just feels much more stable and secure without so much wallowing. I had a set in my f 150 also and for the price on both vehicles, I see no downside. They are a very simple product that provides great benefits. I will buy them again for sure. I would put them on anything.

Jeremiah

They still work great and i have no regrets purchasing them.

by:
2022 FordF-250 Super Duty

just what i needed to eliminate about three inches of squat when i trailed my new fifth wheel the timbren's have about three quarters of an inch of clearance to the axle bracket so that there is no effect on the unloaded ride, only with the pin weight

by:

Every thing was in the box nicely organized and I can’t wait to install them on my day off. I will add comments afterwards and pictures.

by:

Absolutely love them. They give you more suspension when you need it without the hassle of air bags. Installing them is a breeze.

by:
2021 FordF-250 Super Duty

Added 1 inch spacer and it leaves 1/2 inch clearance. Perfect for my 2021 Ford F250 Tremor package (2 inch factory lift) with Lance 650 slide in truck camper to control roll on trips.

by:

Just installed but upon arrival, the item was definitely not “New” as the packaging was re-taped and missing one of the washers. Expected more from eTrailer.

I deeply apologize for the condition that this package has arrived in. I can assure you that we do not sell used product. It is possible that our installation or content teams had opened the packaging for our website content. Let me get you over to our customer service department about that washer.

by:

They made an immediate difference in ha ndling

by:

this is a lot better than having to add airbags because these only work when it is needed. It doesnt affect the ride when unloaded. Airbags is contacted all the time making for a rougher ride when unloaded

  • Are Timbren or SumoSprings a Better Option For a 2024 Ford F-250 Super Duty?
Personally I feel the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSR-127-54 are a better option for more users on a 2024 Ford F-250 than the Timbren # TFR250SDJ. The SumoSprings are more more progressive and will provide a better ride quality when unloaded or only carrying light loads. I only recommend going with the Timbren springs when you always carry heavy loads such as replacing your bed with a contractor box loaded with tools.

I have a solution for you, but according to my contact at Timbren you won't be able to swap the springs from your 2015 Ram 3500 to a 2020 Ford F-250 since they are different sizes. For that reason you'll need to replace your Timbrens completely using the # TFR250SDJ, which are confirmed to fit on the 2020 Ford F-250 and will provide you with a similar system to the one you had on your Ram. The Sumo Springs offer 2800 lbs of support versus the 8600 lbs offered by the Timbren springs. Given that the pin weight of your 5th wheel wouldn't be more than 2000 lbs, the Sumo Springs will be absolutely perfect, providing the proper amount of support with a better ride quality than what you experienced with the Timbrens.
