Video Transcript for Review of Pacer Performance Vehicle Lights - Roof Lamp - PP20-253

Ellen: Hey everyone. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com. Today we're taking a look at the Pacer Performance Hi-5 LED Truck Cab Light kit. Now, this is going to give you that big rig look for your truck and make you more visible on those days where maybe there's a lot of fog or it's a heavy snow storm, rain storm, whatever the case might be, it helps to give you that extra visibility while you're out on the road. Now, this is going to be a kit that's modeled after the 2002 to 2006 Chevy or GM factory roof lights. So we'll have our longer bar of lights. And then also the two smaller guys on the other side.

Usually with these Hi-5, they're going to be five actual points of light. So each of these side ones will have just a single point of light, and then this larger one will have three. So you'll kind of see; one, two, three points that this will be lit up.Now, this is going to utilize LEDs. So it's going to be a lot longer lasting and more efficient than the incandescent version. There is an incandescent version of this same light kit.

It's exactly the same in every respect, just has only the incandescent bulbs. This kit also comes with those bulbs, but it has the LEDs as well. So, that's something to keep in mind there. If you wanted to just go with the incandescent bulbs, you can find that kit here at etrailer.com using part number PP20-240. This is also available in a couple of different lens styles. So right now we're looking at the amber lens with the white LEDs, but it's also available in smoke, which is just kind of a more gray or black finish, and then also in clear.

So those are two kits that are also available here at etrailer.com.Now I'm going to hook this up so you can see what it's going to look like whenever it's installed. So I already have my LEDs in place. I'm going to connect my red to power and then black to ground, and this light can be a little bit temperamental. At least with my setup here, I just have everything running off an external power box. So bear with me while I get this guy rolling here. There we go.

Our lights are ON except for that middle, which is just probably not pushed in all the way. So this is our LED and I'm going to just going to make sure that it's all the way in there. I flip it around just to make sure that the contacts are in the right spot. And then you basically just give these a little quarter turn inside that housing to get them in place. And there it goes. So now all three lights are turned ON. I'm going to turn the studio lights out so you can get a better idea of how bright those are. So you can see we'll have our three lights there. They give us that look for our vehicle. So they're not terribly bright. This isn't going to light up the night or anything. It just is there to give you that extra visibility for other drivers to see you as you're coming down the road. And also just kind of give us that cool big rig look for our truck. So everything else that you see here laid out on the table is what comes in the kit. As I mentioned, we'll have our incandescent bulbs. These are going to be the two wirings to go in our two smaller lights here. So it's kind of similar to the little plug I showed you guys earlier. Just take one of these, pop it into place in that little socket, and then it'll hold in place. The bulbs just push into the sockets themselves. So pretty easy when it comes to that portion. Now with this kit, you will have to do some drilling, you will have to do some modification to your truck. So keep that in mind. This does have to be drilled into the cab of your vehicle so that it can't get matted in place. It comes with several screws to do that, as well as these little rubber grommets to help keep water out from getting in. So if you put that little rubber grommet right underneath the head of the bolt, it should give it some protection as it goes through the housing. Not a bad idea to maybe also pick up some silicone sealant or gasket maker, just for extra protection, especially around the base of the light, maybe on the inside. It does have this kind of rubber boot or the rubber grommet going around it to help give a little bit of cushion. But if it we're me putting on my truck, I just would want to make sure that there's absolutely no chance of water getting in there. So you might put a little silicone around the base there, and then these little black pieces fit into that channel to give those screws something to kind of hold into against the light, and so maybe around that spot.It does kind of have a little indention, so you shouldn't have too much issue with that, get that silicone squeezing out and getting all over the top of your truck. You can find that gasket maker here at etrailer.com, if you want to pick some up.So we'll have the lights, sockets, those little pieces that I mentioned before. We'll also have these quick splice connectors. These are going to be to make your electrical connections in place. I would maybe switch these out for a heat shrink butt connector, or at least an insulated butt connector. They just tend to hold up better over time. These guys are usually the first point of failure for any kind of aftermarket electrical part. They can just vibrate apart, they don't always hold very well because they're just held in place by this little clip piece. Sometimes it breaks off, whatever the case might be there, that tends to be what fails on these things. So I would suggest getting insulated butt connector instead. They'll also give you your switch, wiring with the fuse in place. So one end of the little spade terminal goes to one of the prongs coming off our light. The other end will go to the longer wire which connects into our lights. You might also need to pick up some extra wire for the ground connection on these. The black wire is going to go to ground there. They don't really give you any wire to account for that ground. So that'd be another thing that I would pick up.Fairly straightforward to install. If you have mechanical knowledge at all, it really shouldn't be too bad. It's mostly just, you'd want to be really careful about making those measurements whenever you go to drill into your truck. As far as the measurement for the light itself, it's about 15 and a quarter inch long by about five inches wide and about one and three-quarter inches tall. The smaller lights are each going to be about three and a quarter inch long by about four and 11 sixteenths inches long. And then about one and nine sixteenths inches tall. It is backed by a 60-day limited warranty from pacer. This meets all SAE specifications. And that's pretty much going to do it for our look at the Pacer Performance Hi-5 LED Truck Cab Light kit..

I do not recommend this product at all! Unable to seal around lenses. Constant moisture inside. Leaks underneath and into the cab. The metal board inside rusts and the lights stop working. It’s as if I got some cheap Chinese knock-off item instead of a genuine brand name. Everything about these lights is disappointing.

by:

Package arrived completely opened on one end, and the container a little tattered, but everything seems to be intact and complete!

by:

fairly quick shipping..my truck has never had lights...but have installed them on every truck I've owned ( 4 ), This is my 5th. Everything was in the box. It even came with little washers for the screw heads. I used silicone just in case. I was very skeptical of the supplied ground wires but they all worked!!.. I decided on the old style bulbs this time. Might switch if they don't last then I will go to the LED's. I used a different toggle switch than the one supplied. Really like the set so far. I have never seen a truck like mine with cab lights. Maybe others will try it now?

by:

Look good on the truck, one of the center lights became loose so it was not making great contact and therefore was out. I got it working again, but it was a hassle taking the light off the truck to just spin the light a little bit.

by:

The Pacer Performance High-5 lights on my 1992 Ford F350 are high quality. They fit the original screw holes perfectly. The LED lights are bright. The wire connectors were different, but that was no problem. I cut off the connectors and used crimp-on connectors, then taped the connections securely with electrical tape.

by:

One year on, these lights are holding up very well. Installation was pretty simple, I did have to break out a drill to enlarge the factory holes - I believe the factory lights used sheet metal screws to attach to the top of the cab through the lens and these use a metal stud attached to the light base with a nut that tightens from inside the cab (it's been a year and my memory is fuzzy). Outwards though these lights look completely stock. They sealed well and I've experienced no issues with water leaks. 100% suggest these to anyone wanting to replace or upgrade their stock lights to LED while retained the OE look.

by:

Great product, I replaced existing lights with these. Hole pattern was exactly the same as my old lights. I had two issues not related to the product. My old lights only had one wire through the cab. They had a jumper wire that went from bulb socket to mounting screw for the light.
As far as replacing existing lights goes, this product is great.
For a complaint, the instructions nor video showed me what the little rubber washers were for. Since there were 10 of these I assumed they were for the mounting screws. I used mine for lens cover screws.
I also used silicone under foam pad, on top of foam pad, on mounting screws, and after install was complete I added it at base of lens and around base of light. All not needed but cant hurt to keep water out.

Definitely reccomend this companies products.

Lights and everything arrived quickly, everything needed was in the packaging. The only thing I did differently was I wired the lights into my existing light switch instead of a separate switch, just bought 16 gauge wire from hardware store. I added some t10 LED lights which look awesome at night! During the day LED or incandescent bulbs are not very visible anyway. Overall awesome product!

by:

The cab lights I ordered came in a timely manner and they were oem quality!

by:

After reading not so good reviews on other cab lights I found these and saw nothing but good things about them and when I had them installed I was more than happy with them. I would recommend to anyone wanting to put cab lights on their truck

by:

They look great! Pretty simple install, everything you need is included and the easy splice makes it even easier to wire everything together. They give you 6, so I just used the last one to tap into my headlights and they turn on automatically whenever those are on. LED’s are pretty bright and that’s what I went with, but they also give you the classic bulbs to choose from as well. 4 stars for now just to see how they hold up!

by:

The lights were purchased as replacement for the existing lights already on the truck, so all the hard work of drilling the holes and running the wiring was already done. What little installation I had to do was fairly easy, and simple. The lights match the originals exactly and you can't tell them apart from the old ones. The package was shipped promptly and arrived undamaged within a few days. Overall I'm extremely pleased with the order and I will be using your company for future purchases and I will definitely recommend your company to other people who need the type of things you supply.

Good set of lights , actually need another set. Very happy with them

by:

Purchased and installed the cab lights from etrailer.com. Shipped quickly, reasonably priced and a very easy installation. They look great on the truck. There some great write ups on the web explaining how to easily drop the headliner. Thanks etrailer.

by:

I have ordered many times and have always had great experience!!

by:

Bought these lights about a year ago and they look and work great! The lighting makes a perfect red and they are very bright as well, but that can depend on the bulbs you decide to use. Easy installation too!

by:

Great lights looks amazing on my GMC, i could not be happier. I had the installed as no one wants me wiring anything. The LED bulbs are nice and bright. I would recommend these lights to anyone.

by:

Lights exactly as described. Package came with both LED bulbs and incandescent bulbs. Easy to install. I watched the installation video which was very helpful. I only installed 4 as my vintage truck has a middle rotating beacon.

by:

The smoked lens look great! On my 2017 black 3500 RAM. Install took about 45 minutes. LED bulbs need to go the right way to work. Shipping was quick, and thanks to Jason and everyone at etrailer for making the ordering process easy.

by:

Straightforward install. Worst part was dropping the headliner. Tapped into the power source at passenger side kick panel in my 97 Ford. Very happy with my purchase.

by:

Had these lights on my truck for a year now and they work great the installation was pretty easy. I installed them on my ram 1500

by:

These have only been on for a few days but they seem to be a very reliable option if your truck needs cab lights. Straight forward install and I was pleased to find out the bases and lenses are molded of a nice poly plastic. I was worried the bases would be weak and flimsy. I ordered two sets, one set for a 2000 f350 that never had cab lights, and a second set for a 2002 f350 that already had cab lights but were aged and weathered. I was able to get my drilling dimensions from one truck and just transfer over to the other. Simply dropped the headliner, marked my holes on masking tape, drilled holes, mounted lights, and ran wiring down to behind my headlight switch tapped into the running lights wire. I did go the extra mile and added some silicone around my bolt and wire holes for a little extra insurance prior to putting the headliner back in place. I was a little intimidated to start with but after all said and done I would have no issue doing this over again on multiple trucks. I'm not a professional mechanic by trade, just handy enough to do my own exhaust, stereo, and lighting installs as well as oil changes etc. These cab lights can be installed by novice wrench turners. etrailer does however need to update their website pictures though. The updated version of these lights have studs molded into the bases so they are held on by a nut and washer from inside the cab. The pictures on etrailer must be a previous version that were fastened by sheet metal style screws screwed in from the topside. Pacer Performance website shows the proper product, etrailer should make that a priority to follow suit and update their literature. The molded studs is a much better design! Kudos Pacer Performance!

Look just lock factory

by:

Excellent product. Very good price. The replacement marker lights were almost an identical match to the original lights on my 1983 Ford F150. A very easy install. The truck looks great! Purchasing the lights on line with etrailer.com was a snap. I'm very happy so far with the service, product, and follow up. I'll definitely consider etrailer.com for further purchases as I work to restore this pickup. Thank you etrailer.com!!!

by:

Hello Again. I just received my order. Thank You. One concern. The exterior marker lights came as a complete set including mounting screws although the three interior lights and the exterior door light DID NOT. I was hoping the screws would be included in the price so I would not have to make a trip to the hardware store to mount them.
The diameter, head size and length are critical to NOT breaking the unit when installed. I look forward to hearing from you on this matter.

Thanks, R.S. Moyer
