Video Transcript for Hopkins Wiring - Trailer Connectors - HM46155 Review

Today we're reviewing part number HM46155, from Hopkins. This is the vehicle wiring converter with a 4-pole end for your trailer, and it includes a tester and all the connectors. So what this does is, it converts a 3-wire system into a 2-wire system for your trailer. So here's the trailer end of the wiring, and then the other end plugs into the converter itself, like that. Actually upside down, but like that. And then the wiring on the other side of the converter is spliced into your vehicle wiring using the quick splice connector set, are included.

And you don't need to guess which wires power which function on the converter, because it's actually embossed into the back of the converter. But you do need to test your vehicle wiring to determine which wires control which function, so you can match them up. And a tester is included, so you can check your vehicle wiring. Also included are cable ties to secure your wiring, a self-tapping screw for your ground, which always gets connected to a clean, unpainted metal surface, some Dielectric grease for your electrical connection, and a dust cap for your 4-pole to protect it when it's not in use. And there you have it for part number HM46155, the Hopkins vehicle wiring converter with a 4-pole end.

  • Troubleshooting 4-Way Wire Harness installation On 2009 Cadillac SRX
The wiring harnesses and kit, part # HM48895 and part # HM46155 you referenced in your question are not designed to be a fit for your 2009 Cadillac SRX. If you find that you have the correct wire harness for your SRX you can check the wiring to make sure all of the wires have been connected as the instructions state. Also, you will want to make sure the ground wire has been secured to a clean bare metal surface. Loose or corroded grounds can cause some of the same problems you described....

  • Does the Red Wire from the Hopkins Vehicle Wiring Converter Need to Be Wired In
Yes, you will need to wire in the red wire from the Hopkins Vehicle Wiring Converter # HM46155 to the stop light circuit of your vehicle. Otherwise you will not have brake lights on your trailer. Check out the video I attached that shows how this product would install onto a similar vehicle. Basically, you will use the included circuit tester to find the correct circuit to tap into, and then use the quick-splices to tap into that circuit.

  • Fuses Keep Popping on 2000 Honda Shadow Ace Tourer When Using the Hopkins # HM46155 to Tow Trailer
Your fuses keep popping on your 2000 Honda Shadow Ace Tourer because the trailer is drawing too much power on those wiring circuits. What you need to install is the Curt # C59236 which is like the Hopkins # HM46155 that you installed except the Curt draws power directly from the battery. The wires that connect to your light circuits just tell the unit when to send signals to which circuits. Since it is drawing power directly from your battery it will not overload the circuits on your...

  • Trailer Lights Go Out When Using Brake Lights and Turn Signals or Running Lights at the Same Time
This sounds like a ground issue or a potential overload situation. Ground problems normally show up when there is more draw on a system such as when you have the running lights on and then use another function like a turn signal or brake light. And overload could be the result of a short or too many lights on a trailer. Make sure that the vehicle side and trailer side connectors are clean and free of corrosion inside and out. The main connector grounds should be attached to clean and corrosion...

Both the Hopkins # 46255 and # HM46155 Wiring Harnesses that you referenced will technically work on your 2003 Ford Crown Victoria P71 but the better option is with the # 46255. In addition to the powered converter that's needed to both combine the separate signal circuits on the Crown Vic to be compatible with trailer wiring and provide sufficient power to the trailer lights, it also includes a fuse holder and fuse along with additional wire to run the converter's power lead up to the...
