The Trailer Box is great for A-frame-style trailers such as utility, camping or lawn-maintenance trailers. The shape of the box is designed to maximize the space on your trailer but also provides balance for better tracking and towing. The lift cylinder helps to raise and hold open the rigid, patented, foam-filled lid. The insulated chest lid opens to a full 90 degrees with the help of two super-duty lift cylinders, which raise the lid and hold it open as you load and unload your gear.

Video Transcript for UWS A-Frame Trailer Toolbox Review

What's up everybody, it's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be checking out this UWS A-frame toolbox. It's gonna be 4.1 cubic feet on the inside. It's gonna be a good way to use this space on the front of your trailer, to keep all your tools nice and secure. Even locks it up, that way everything's all in there, all in one place and it's not scattered about the trailer. Let's check it out.

First thing I wanna talk about is the installation process. It's not a very specific thing. It's one of those that's kind of up to you. You even have to get your own hardware to do it. So, you might have to drill into your trailer or into the bottom of the toolbox.

You will have to drill into the bottom toolbox to get some of this installed. And you could go by using bolts here at the four corners of the toolbox. Our trailer is a little unique here, it's got a slot here in the middle, so that's what we're gonna be using to install the toolbox to this trailer. But those are just things to look out for before you get into a toolbox. Just make sure you know that you're gonna have to do a little bit of drilling and figure out how you wanna mount this.

Another thing to consider when you're looking at your toolbox and your trailer 'cause every trailer's gonna be a little bit different is space management. So, good idea to measure the front and back of our toolbox here to see what you're gonna be working with. So, I'm gonna go from the front. It's gonna be about 20 inches there. And then on the back side, it's gonna be about 33 inches.

So, make sure you have the amount of space for that. Let's go ahead and do the width too while we're looking at it. From back to the front, it's gonna be about 16 and a half inches. So, you're gonna need that space on that trailer. So, there's a lot of things that get in the way. Make sure your jack is in the right spot. If you got a jack mounted here on the side that could actually get in the way of your toolbox. We have one that's up here towards the A-frame, so it has plenty of room. And even if it is close, remember about the handle too. You wanna make sure you have a handle that's either above the toolbox or it can be manipulated, maybe on the side, a sidewinder might be good 'cause if it was any closer, we wouldn't be able to turn the handle to even get the jack to come up. The box is also gonna be about 21 inches and that's with the lid open. So, it's about here is gonna be 21 inches tall. The lid sits up a little bit more over that. And then it comes down with a lip here around the ends, that comes down a little bit more than that. So, there is a little bit more space. The lip is good because it comes down and over the top that's gonna help prevent any water or anything from getting up and into the box. It's a lot harder for it to go like this than it would be if it just ended right here at the top. Now there's also another version of this box. It's gonna be more low profile. So, like I said, this one's 21 inches tall. There's one that's gonna be 13 inches tall. So, if you maybe don't need all of this space, maybe want a little bit more low profile. Maybe you wanna look at the back of your truck and see everything that's in the bed. Just in case you're looking at straps or whatever is tied down. If you just want that visibility, low profile is an option. It's gonna be made out of a black powder coat aluminum. So, it is lightweight to lift it up and set it up on your trailer. But also that black powder coat's gonna help it out and help it last out in those elements. So, leaving it on your trailer all the time, it's not gonna be a big deal. It's gonna be very resistant to rust or corrosion. In the front, we got a stainless steel latch. You can pop that open. You can see it got the gas strut that opens the lid very easily every time. You don't have to use your own hands on it. It pops up very quick. And then you can also, for security, when you go to close it, you can use the key to lock it up. Looking at the striker here, we can adjust it, if yours doesn't hit as it's supposed too. So, there is a little movement there. Ours actually works pretty good. I can close the lid with one hand. Just come down here and show you. And it's not like it's a hard push or anything. Bring it down in place. It's latched in. You see that the lid doesn't move a whole lot when it is shut, it stays pretty sealed. Inside the lid here it is injected with foam. So, that's not only gonna help insulate the toolbox but also helps the lid keep its shape. So, it just adds a little more structural support in there. So, if you we're to set something heavy down, maybe on the lid, it wouldn't dent as easily or crush in. It's got that foam that's pushing out on it. Got a piano hinge along the backside, helping that lid open up. And then I can measure back here to see how much is added to the back of the toolbox. Looks like it's gonna be about two inches. So, just keep that in mind, if you have it really close to an enclosed trailer or like some kind of wall was here, you need that extra space so that it would open up fully. Overall, I think it's gonna be a great addition to your trailer. The toolbox looks nice on here. Just make sure you look at your trailer and get the right one that has the right measurements. It's not too big. It fits with your jack. All the warning signs we gave you. Otherwise, though, it's really nice edition. It's good to keep all your tools, your ratchet straps, even wheel chalks when they're not in use, can all be locked up in the toolbox and they're not just laying randomly out on the trailer or you have to throw 'em in the truck every time. I like that everything's gonna be right here in this toolbox wherever that trailer is, whenever I need it. Well, I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out and hope this helped..

Excellent quality! Fits perfectly on the A hitch of my travel trailer. Large enough to store two 20 gal propane tanks, a AGM battery, and still have room for all the tools I need for my travels.

by:

A year later and it still works and looks as good as the day it arrived and installed.

by:

Fits perfectly on the tongue of the trailer and stowes all the gear I Ned quick access to for loading and unloading

by:

This roomy aluminum box was a perfect fit for my aluminum trailer and I was able to mount it so that it's not only secure but almost theft proof. My only complaint is some of the hardware is ferrous metal, which will rust and is not compatable with aluminum. The trailer the box is mounted on also has this problem. Few manufacturers understand metal compatibility and don't design for corrosive coastal atmospheres.

by:

The product was better than I expected. Quality and condition after shipping was above average. I would return for additional products when the need arises.

by:

This storage box is outstanding. A little on the pricey side but well worth it for the size.

by:

The trailer box is a great addition to my car trailer. The finish looks great and serves its purpose. I bought it because of my experience with etrailer and that the box was manufactured in the U.S.A. I would buy the same box again.

by:

Ive had it a year & it lives in the sun, makes lots of deer lease trips, sandy mud & grim....excellent box. Sturdy, cleans easy, roomy, strong latch. Worth the money! I had a cheapo box before that didnt even last a year....coating wore off, rusted, & latch would pop open if u pulled hard. This one seals very well. I even lightly hit it w pressure washer & it has never leaked.

by:

It's performing as expected after a year, I'd recommend it.

by:

I have purchased two of these boxes and will buy another. The first arrived in perfect condition and still looks like new. The second arrived bent from shipping damage, but not bad enough to hassle with an exchange. Also, The foam trim under the lid fell out from the second box after a few weeks. I will request better packaging in the corners ofthe next order.

  • Best Quality A-Frame Tool Box for Sure Trac Trailer
I am happy to help you find a trailer tongue tool box for your Sure Trac trailer Andy. When you say you have 44 inches from the widest point, I believe you are referring to 44 inches up from the widest point of the A-frame towards the tailgate. You would still want to make sure you have a long enough space on the a-frame for a longer tool box as well. If you measure from cross member to cross member horizontally across at the widest point, you will know how long of a tool box you can fit. The...

  • Will Smittybilt Winch Fit Inside UWS A-Frame Trailer Toolbox UWS01064
According to my research the smittybilt 9,500 lb load capacity winch measures 22.3 inches long by 9.4" inches tall. • How Much Space is Needed Behind UWS A-Frame Trailer Toolbox to Open Lid
The 4.1 cubic foot UWS A-Frame Trailer Toolbox # UWS01064 has a lid which measures 1 inch, and since the lid simply opens 90 degrees, you will only need a little more than an inch of space to open the lid to ensure it does not come into contact with your trailer. When mounting it you can test it out at various spots to ensure there is zero contact but the required space behind the toolbox is minimal. In regards to height, you will be able to store an item that is up to 21 inches tall...
