Specs:
A P2-rated light produces a 45-degree angle of light to either side of its centerline for a total of 90 degrees of coverage. This beam pattern can be seen straight on, but it cannot be seen clearly from the side. So this type of light can be used as either a side marker light or a clearance light, but it cannot function as both. If you need both functions, then you must install 2 separate lights on your trailer - one as a front or rear clearance light and one as a side marker light.
Recessed-mount trailer lights install with a grommet, which is often sold separately. These lights extend past the trailer surface and require a hole for installation. If replacing a light, you can utilize the pre-existing hole. If installing a new light, you will need to cut a hole or use a mounting bracket (sold separately) to complete the installation.

Today we're going to take a look at the Peterson Trailer Clearance or Side Marker Light with Reflex Reflector. This is going to be a nice round light. It helps to give better visibility for your trailer with that reflector as well as our light function. It accepts an industry standard two prong plug at the back. It comes with a little tape on those prongs to keep in the already applied dielectric grease, that's going to be that sticky stuff that you see back there, and that's just to help protect the connection, make sure that no dirt or debris gets into that terminal. It keeps corrosion to a minimum. So I've got my two prong plug here. This is sold separately. This one, in particular, is going to be Part number B431-49.
That's the Peterson Two Wire Pigtail, and that is also available here at etrailer.com if you want to pick that up to go with your light. So with that installed now, you can see it just pops right into the back. I can turn on my power source and that will turn on my light. This is going to have an incandescent bulb, which you can see from the side there. It's going to provide our lighting function that we need to be DOT compliant. If I turn out the light in the studio, you'll see just how bright that's going to be. Not super bright, but enough to give us good visibility in the dark. That amber lens is going to be good for our front or side markers along the back just any time we want to have a little extra visibility for our trailer.
This light is going to be P2 rated. Basically what that means, is that it's going to produce a 45 degree angle of light to either side of its center line, so by turning it like this, we can't really see too much light, but if it starts turning to where it's facing you, that's when you'll start actually being able to see the light better. So that's what makes it a P2 rated light. You need to use it either as a clearance or a side marker light. It can't really be used for both at the same time, so if you want it to be both, you'll have to get two lights.Turn off our light, unplug our pigtail at the back .. This little circle in front of me, that's going to be a little gasket that comes with it.
It's going to help to seal it up a little bit. It's made of some sort of composite, kind of made of some heavy paper sort of material by the feel of it, so it might not be water tight, but it'll help to just seal that up, protect our light a little bit whenever we go to mount that in place. It also helps to give a backing to our reflectors. It makes them a little bit more noticeable. As far as measurements, overall our light with the reflector is about three inches in diameter. The light itself is just about two inches in diameter, and then the thickness going from the front face of the light to the back of the terminals is about 7/8 of an inch deep. This is DOT compliant and it is made in the U.S.A.And that's going to do it for our look at the Peterson Trailer Clearance or Side Marker Light with Reflex Reflector..
