Today in our 2009 Acura RDX, we'll be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Draw-Tite Max-Frame trailer hitch receiver class 3, part number 75563. Here's what it looks like once it's installed. You can see it's going to tuck up very nicely under the bottom side of our bumper. The only thing that's going to be visible from the rear is going to be our receiver tube which is going to be a 2"x2" class 3. It's got two hitch pin holes, our standard 5/8" for our hitch pin. It's got 1/2" for our j pin stabilization device. It's going to have a nice black powder-coated finish, and it's going to feature a loop-style safety chain holders to be able to put your nice large safety chain hooks through there.
This hitch has a 400 pound tongue weight, which is the amount of downward force we can put on our hitch, and 4,000 pounds of gross trailer weight, which is our loaded trailer. You want to check with your owner's manual or your manufacturer to make sure that your vehicle is able to tow that amount of weight. You're always going to take the one that's the lower of the capacities. This is going to be a complete bolt-on design using two factory weld nuts, and two handle nuts are going to fit into existing holes in our frame rail. Now I'm going to give you a couple of measurements. This is going to help you in selecting your accessories such as a ball mount, a bike rack, or a cargo carrier.
From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost part of the bumper, it's going to be about 6.5 inches. From the ground to the top of the inside of the receiver tube, it's going to be about 14.5 inches. Now, let's go ahead and show you how to install it. To begin our installation, we're going to locate the mounting points that we're going to be using. We're going to be using a factory weld nut at the very rear of the vehicle. Then, we're going to have a pre-drilled hole in our frame rail.
We're going to attach a handle nut that's going to slide inside the frame held in with a 1/2" bolt with a conical tooth washer. In the front, we're going to have a 12 mm bolt that's going to fit into the factory weld nut with a conical tooth washer. We want to begin by cleaning out the weld nuts on our vehicle to make sure there's no dirt and debris. We're going to spray a little lubricant in there. Do that to both sides. Now, we're going to take a nylon tube brush and we're going to clean out the hole.
If we don't have one, we can pick it up on our website. It's part number 814092. We'll just take it and clean it out. Make sure that we get all the dirt and debris and anything that's built up inside out. Then, we can take one of the new bolts. We want to just go ahead and try it and make sure that it's going to thread easily into the weld nut. We do that for both sides. Now, if it does have any rust built up in there, you probably want to take a tap and go ahead and run it through there and clean out the threads. Now we can get a second set of hands, and we're going to place our hitch up into position. Then, we'll thread in our rear bolt. We'll take our handle nut, put a little bend in it, and we're going to lay it over top of the hole from the back side. We'll take our new hardware and we'll repeat this process for the other side. Now we can go ahead and snug down all of our bolts that are in position. Now we can torque them down to the specifications listed in our instructions. We're going to use a 3/4" wrench or a 19, whichever you have. Now, we'll repeat this for the other side. 2009 Acura RDX
I chose the Draw-tite receiver because it had the beast trailer and tongue weight specs. It fit perfectly within the limited space between the exhaust system and rear bumper. All of the holes lined up. I used spray rust remover and a 1/2” plumbers wire pipe cleaning brush ( made for cleaning copper pipe, pre -pex !) to clean out the machine threaded holes in the cars undercarriage. I used wood blocking to hold the receiver up until I got the two bolts nearest the bumper started .
It took a bit of tugging and finessing, but all in all, it installed quite nicely. My one complaint and concern is that the paint job on the receiving appears to be terrible. The paint chipped off easily, exposing bare , shiny , unprotected steel…
I didn’t see any primer and so I must assume it was painted without any. If this is the case this thing will be a rusty mess in short order……I’m hoping for the best!
I’m only using it for a hitch-mounted bike rack so hopefully it won’t get banged and chipped up.

2007 Acura RDX
This hitch lined up perfectly with the mounting holes on my 2007 RDX. It looks great, since only the receiver opening is visible. Everything else is well hidden. It was easy to install. Fast shipping from eTrailer.

Installed on 2008 Acura RDX. I had to clean out my vehicle mounting holes with a wire brush and oil. Fit is excellent. You will need an extended ball hitch so you don't damage your bumper and mount the ball on other side for more ground clearance. Very heavy duty.

No complaints - this installed very easily on our 2008 Acura RDX. Depending on what you're attaching to the receiver you might need an extension as this sits a little further under the bumper than others I've seen on different vehicles. In our case, we're using a Yakima 4-bike rack that doesn't need an extension. Great price, quick shipping, and easy to follow instructions, so I'd say you can buy with confidence. We're very happy with the product.

The receiver was easy to install (however, I had problems trying to install on an 8 year old SUV - the thread holes on the frame had rust in them and it took a while to locate the proper tool to clean the threads before installing the receiver). The actual installation was easy for one person to do and all the instructions and equipment provided worked very well. I've had two previous receivers installed by the selling facility but found etrailer's offer was really cost effective and worked well for my needs.

Completely blown away by the service! Ordered the product around 6pm on a Tuesday night and received notification that night that it had already shipped and that I’d have it two days later. “Yea right” I thought...with it being the holiday season there is no way. Low and behold, UPS dropped it off that Thursday! Install took about 30 mins or so and was super easy especially given their detailed video instructions from their site. The hitch looks very nice and tucks nicely under the bumper, leaving only the hitch receiver itself visible. Because of the shape of the RDX rear end it is quite far back if you are planning to use this for a bike rack. My 1up rack had no problems because of the design, but other racks might not fit as well. That is in no way the fault of this product and the product is top notch in design and build quality. That is just the way it is with the RDX rear end. A+++++

First, the product was delivered super fast. The product is exactly as described. My husband watched the video and it was right on. It took him less than 30 minutes to install the hitch. Receiver sits pretty far under bumper. I bought this specifically for a bike rack. The rack is not able to fold up when not in use without an extension.
Also came with the wrong bolts.

To prevent premature rust, I would cover all chips in anti-corrosive spray paint and regularly use lubricant on the receiver hole when mounting your bike rack.
