Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2000 Nissan Pathfinder

Today we are going to be installing hitch part number 75077 from Draw-Tite on a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder. And this installation will also apply to the Hidden Hitch part number 70609. We are underneath the vehicle now, and I am going to go ahead and point out the mounting location for the trailer hitch. We are on the drivers side, the outboard side of the frame, and you can see there is a factory tow hook here. There is one of these on each side of the vehicle. The hitch is actually going to replace these tow hooks, so if you want to remove them - the bolts - they are holding the tow hook in place, and they need to be removed and come down. And clamped in here is also a fourth weld nut that we are going to use as the mounting location as well. It is toward the rear of the frame you will be able to see it once we get the tow hook removed. As you can also see, the small control box here on the drivers side is going to be in the way of me removing the bolts from the side of the frame and getting the hitch up into place. So we want to lower this down and out of the way as well. There are three bolts holding the box in place - one here on the outboard side, one here at the rear, and one here on the inboard side as well. So we are going to ahead and remove that first, and then remove the tow hooks from both sides of the vehicle.

OK, with those screws out I am going to go ahead and pull the canister down. On most of it I disconnect this side pipe here. This is just an extra exhaust that is just going to allow me to lower the canister. You definitely want to make sure you reconnect that, though, when the installation is complete. And again, now I am going to remove the three bolts per side that are holding the tow hooks in place. I am going to go ahead and lower those out of the way. As you can see here on the drivers side bracket that the wires fitting the tail light assembly are also attached to it. You want to make sure that you get that off as well, and that will allow you to fully lower the tow hook. And as you can see now with the tow hook removed, you can see the fourth mounting location for the hitch, just again toward the rear of the vehicle, way up high here. If you have an older vehicle, with that weld nut being exposed all the time, there is a good chance there is some corrosion built up in there, so it would be a good idea to spray that down with some spray lubricant like a WD-40. And you can clean it out real well with any kind of a wire brush or even a battery post cleaner would work for you anything you can get in there to get that corrosion out. So once you get those cleaned out, you want to go ahead and put the hitch up into position. You want to use the new hardware that comes with the installation kit. I am using a basic battery terminal cleaner to just get in there and scrub the corrosion.

OK, with all eight bolts loosely installed into the side of the hitch, we are going to go ahead and tighten them down now. I am going to go through and kind of snug them up with the air gun, and then we are going to go back and torque them down to their specified torque rating. And with those tightened down, I am going to go back through and torque each bolt down to its specified torque rating. You need to check your instructions to find the particular torque rating for each individual bolt. We want to make sure that we put our canister back up into place as well. And again, we want to make sure that we reconnect the exhaust pipe that we had removed earlier. With us having to remove this clip from the wire here, I am going to go ahead and zip-tie it into this other wire bundle right next to it so that it is not hanging loose. And then again, the wire harness here that we removed that fastener from the tow hook, I am going to go ahead and zip-tie this to this existing bundle here so that it is not hanging loose. I am going to go ahead and make sure we tighten these evenly. And with the canister back up into position, our installation is complete. The tow hooks will remain off the vehicle while the hitch is in place. You might want to save those in case you do remove the hitch, you can put the tow hooks back up into position. And this will conclude the installation of hitch part number 75077 on a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder.

I have an 01' Pathfinder. The hitch went on perfect, just as the instructions showed. No problem. We have hauled some very heavy loads on the trailer with no problems. The price was great for this great product. Next time I need a trailer hitch I'll do this again.
Happy happy happy.

Yes. I’m still happy happy happy. A year later and have hauled loads the limit I would put on my truck, tires bulging and no problem with your hitch. I recommend to anyone. I still remember, the price was very reasonable, great quality product.

Box it was shipped in could of been slightly bigger to accomodate size of hitch. Also could of put some type of protection covering the mounting plates as they were poking out the sides of the box and the paint was chipped off. Covered it with black high temp paint. Hence the 4 stars. Would give a 5 srar, but I need to be honest with the rating.

Other than that, installation was a breeze. Didnt have any help, but do highly recommend it. Took me about 2 hours to install only cause I was having issues pushing it up into place, kept getting stuck. Once I finally got clear with a few good whacks with my 2lb rubber deadblow hammer, bolting was easy and torquing was a breeze.

With a little help from my wife, the trailer hitch and electrical system was very easy to install. No major issues or slow downs. I would recommend this trailer to anyone. By the way, the videos are a great help!

This is the completed installation of the trailer hitch receiver on my Nissan Pathfinder 1999. It took me about two hours to completed the installation on both, trailer hitch and the wiring harness. All this thanks to the generosity of yours videos that make easy the installation.

I just got this hitch installed yesterday and am very pleased with the quality. Install was nice and easy as well! Some of the how to videos I’ve seen said to remove the charcoal canister assembly to access the bolts on the driver’s side, but I was able to get the two upper bolts with an open end wrench easily enough.

Quick delivery of hitch and wiring. Easy to install, and helps hide the spare tire.

I ordered the product at 8 pm Wednesday night, received an email 15 minutes later saying it had shipped. Order arrived Friday morning, this was the 3 day shipping (barely 2 days to arrive), AWESOME!!!! Product was in great shape, and was easy to install. Looks to be a good quality hitch, very sturdy. Thanks for the great service!

No problems, has been a very reliable, sturdy hitch.

Love this Hitch Receiver! This is the third time I have ordered it. It does everything right, fit is factory perfect. I do give a single star for shipping however. The hitch was sent bare, no packaging whatsoever. The paint didn't survive unscathed. The paint wasn't horrible, and, it was chipped.

Other than some scratches and mud, I would have never guessed that this hitch is already a year old. Still does what it says on the box

Well made hitch, fit the Pathfinder perfectly, wraps around spare and minimal loss of bumper clearance for a stout Class III hitch. Love the etrailer pics of the hitch mounted on the actual make/model of vehicle. Awesome site, fast shipping, great prices and install videos! This is my 3rd hitch purchased here in the last 6 years. Will be back.

2003 Nissan Pathfinder

Trailer hitch looks of good quality, fit well, and assembled easily. ETBC7 kit was as expected and worked well. The brake controller TrailerMate X10 installed without a problem. However, the controller has an issue where if the brake pedal is depressed and while held down, the manual controller lever is actuated and released, the controller goes into OVERLOAD indication and can only be reset by unplugging the trailer or the connector at the back of the controller. It works ok otherwise. Can use the manual or normal pedal actuation independently, just not at the same time.

by:

It is easy to attach the type of bike rack that keeps bikes away from the truck, so the wheels don't damage the truck when you hit a bump.

The hitch seems very strong. I plan to use it for towing a boat.

Very happy with my purchase!

Installed Draw-Tite 75077 and wiring harness 118361 on my 2002 Nissan Pathfinder today. etrailer did a great job shipping and providing instructions and even had videos for both the hitch and wiring install. No issues with the install and I appreciate the great customer service.

2001 Nissan Pathfinder

Installed this hitch on my daughter's 2001 Nisson Pathfinder and it turned out to be a quick and fairly simple operation. It helps to have two people as positioning the hitch on the frame is much easier as it is a snug fit. Also, watch the video as that is very helpful also. be sure to clean the top, previously unused bolt holes because they will be full of dirt. All in all, I'm very satisfied with this unit ... the price was reasonable, shipping was free, and it arrived in 4 days, which was outstanding. they also kept me informed on the status of my order. I would definitely recommend this company to a friend, and would buy from them again.

by:

Trailer hitch was very easy to install. It took less than the 40 minutes estimated and required only basic tools (minus a torque wrench borrowed from autozone). I have never installed trailer wiring before but the instructions provided were both specific to my model vehicle and very detailed. In all the complete installation took me, a novice, one hour. Very satisfied!

by:
2007 Chevrolet Suburban

Installation was as easy as expected (not super easy because it is heavy). I was able to install alone in a little over an hour. The hitch held up on a 800 mile trip a couple days later. It has now been a year, I am very happy with how the hitch has held up.

by:
Nissan Pathfinder

I installed this hitch on my '97 Pathfinder to tow my pop-up camper and 17' boat. The has been working perfectly. It was a little tuff getting in but I don't blame the hitch, I attribute it to the age of my Pathfinder(built up grime and rust). Thanks, Mark S.

by:
2014 Nissan Pathfinder

I installed a hitch on to a Nissan Pathfinder with relative ease. The instructional video was instrumental to the ease that I experienced.

The product arrived intact and on a timely basis. Its specifications were very compatible to the SUV's frame. My experience was a very positive one.

By the way, if someone plans to remove the factory bolts from the tow hooks with a 35 year-old manual 3/8" ratchet, then, insert the ratchet handle into a 12 to 14 inch pipe and then turn counter clockwise.

by:

Quick delivery. Hitch fit like a glove. However, you should add 30 minutes to the expected install time due to 12 year old undercarriage bolts being stubborn. :) As always will continue to buy my trailer hitches and accessories from etrailer. Love the free shipping!!

Great product and customer service.

Regards,
