Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Installation - 2017 Chevrolet Camaro

Speaker 1: Today in this 2017 Chevrolet Camaro we'll be having a look at and showing you how to install the Draw-Tite Class 1 trailer hitch receiver, part number 24938.Here's what our hitch looks like installed. One thing that you'll notice about this hitch is that we have plenty of clearance around our rear fascia making this a great hitch to use for bike racks and cargo carriers. Welded onto the bottom of our receiver are rolled steel safety chain loops. And what's great about these is that even though this is a Class 1 hitch and is fairly small they're still large enough to accept even a very large safety chain hook like this one from the trailer. And you can clip on without any issues. Now this hit features a 200 pound max tongue weight rating, which is the amount forcing down. And a 2000 pound max gross trailer rating, which is the amount it can pull.

You want to make sure you do consult the owner's manual of your Camaro and not exceed what the vehicle's rated for. Now many of our customers have told us that they've been using this hitch to tow a small trailer and they've had no problems with it at all.Now for a few measurements to assist you in choosing any hitch mount and accessories such as a bike rack or a cargo carrier. You're looking at about 10 inches from the ground to the top of the inch and a quarter receiver opening. And about five inches from the center of the hitch pin hole through most part of the back bumper. Now that we've gone over some features we'll show you how to get it installed. To begin our install we're looking up at the bumper on the passenger side right behind our tire.

Our driver side, the exact same way so keep in mind what we do one side we'll be repeating on the other side. We four seven millimeter screws right here to remove. So let's go ahead and remove these. We'll also have one T15 torque screw to remove. And then more towards the center of the fascia underneath the license plate area will have one set of millimeter screw per side to remove.

Now we're in our wheel well just behind our back tire. We have a couple T15 fasteners to remove that hold our wheel liner to our fascia. There's three in total. Now as we peel back the wheel liner at the very top corner of our fascia where it meets the fender, we have a seven millimeter fastener to remove. Now with an extra set of hands we can remove our fascia.

We'll grab it at the corner where it meets our fender and pull away from the vehicle. We'll have two wiring connectors to disconnect. We'll slide the red lock tab back on the white one. And it's the same deal on the black one. With these disconnected we'll set our fascia aside where it won't get damaged. Now where our bumper beam attaches to the vehicle on each side we'll have four 15 millimeter nuts just like this one to remove. Now we'll slide our exhaust hangers off the bottom studs on both sides. And we can take our bumper beam now and remove it. Now we'll take our hitch and we'll slide it over the studs. We'll take the bumper beam now, reinstall it over the hitch and over the studs. Place on nut into the top to hold it in place. Now we'll slide our exhaust hanger back over the studs and we can reinstall the rest of our nuts now. Now we'll tighten down all of our nuts. Now we'll torque all of our hardware the amount specified in the instructions. Now we'll reinstall our fascia making sure we reconnect all of our wiring harnesses that we removed earlier. And that completes our look at and showing you how to install Draw-Tite Class 1 trailer hitch receiver, part number 24938 on this 2017 Chevrolet Camaro.

Product was reasonably priced and easily installed thanks to the online instructional video. I am very happy with this hitch. I haul a small (4x5) trailer 2-3 times a week down a 2-mile dirt road to take my 2 Huskies for a walk by a riparian area (Sonoita Creek in S. AZ). I would highly recommend etrailer hitches! Best money I ever invested!

in short, this hitch works well for my 2017 camaro ss with a standard bumper setup and dual mode exhaust (quad pipes). i don't have any aftermarket bumper, diffuser or the GM ground effects kit. the hitch clears the bumper/standard diffuser without modification. i works well with my Kuat sherpa 2.0 bike rack and there are no clearance problems with the tilt away function of the rack (my car is on factory suspension with mag ride).

as for the installation...
- the install video is essential! watch it! nice and detailed.
- it does take about 2 hours especially if you do it yourself (which i did).
- you don't need the extenders to access the hex bolts around the metal impact bar. i installed it with a standard ratcheting wrench set.
- you don't need to have it on a lift although it would make it easier. i installed in on 2 jack stands
- on jack stands, the wiring harness is easier to access from the left side (and not from the bottom of the car) once you start pulling away the bumper. i suggest to decouple the bumper from the left first, disconnect the wiring harness, then fully decouple the bumper.

it was my first hitch install and the video made it very doable. overall, a great hitch for my camaro and i'm loving it!

Easy install and no cutting needed. All I needed to do is remove the bumper cover and bumper and slide the hitch on the studs then install everything I took off. Total of maybe an hour max of work.

2017 Chevrolet Camaro

I just installed this hitch today on my 2017 Camaro SS Convertible with the dual mode exhaust (NPP) option. Installation went exactly as expected, and the fit is absolutely perfect! I took the opportunity to upgrade my taillights at the same time, so having them off the vehicle made it a little bit easier to remove and reattach the bumper cover. The video provided here was invaluable. Thanks so much etrailer for providing that! It gave me the confidence to do the installation myself.

The biggest problem I had was detaching the two wiring harnesses under the bumper cover on the left hand side. I had to detach most of the clips on the fascia so I could access them from the side of the vehicle (reaching in right behind the wheel) rather than from below the vehicle to get them to disconnect. After sliding out the locking clip on each harness, I pushed a small flat blade screwdriver into the notch in the female half of the harness to release the clip holding in in place. At that point, they just slid apart easily.

No modification / trimming was needed. Perfect fit!

And excellent product. Was easy to put on, especially after watching the video. The only comment I would have to say is for the 2017 Camaro, it is a little difficult to get the facia off. Do not pull it straight off, it has clips made out of plastic built into the top of the facia that needs to be lifted off of the latches that snaps it on. Over all, it took me less than an hour to put this on my Camaro. It is definitely easier to do with the wheels on a lift or blocks. I did not remove the electrical clips connecting to the lights, I just sent the facia on a bench off to the side. That is an issue that I saw others have when installing this hitch.

The Hitch installed on my 2018 Camaro SS very well. I also got the wiring harness installed. Took me about 2 hours from start to finish. The youtube video etrailer did for this install made it go by super quick.

I'm using this to haul my motorcycle to the track on my Kendon Trailer. This setup is perfect.

Easy to install.

by:

Fit like a charm. Love it. Used it already for a year, with my bike rack.
Now added a trailer and can't wait to use it with my kayaks.

by:

Easy but time-consuming install, watch a few YouTube vids first. Clean look. No body or trim mods on a factory RS. Recommend.

2016 Chevrolet Camaro

Goes on easy, and doesn't require any cutting at all. Pretty happy with it. I'm not crazy about having a hitch receiver on this car, but at least it's as subtle as it could be.

by:
2016 Chevrolet Camaro

Bit of a pain to install since you have to remove the bumper cover, but otherwise SUPER happy that I can take my bike on my Camaro!

  • Can I Tow a 2021 Harley Davidson CVO Tri-Glide With a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro LT?
Your 2016 Chevrolet Camaro LT was never designed for towing a trailer but I do know it is done. Since Chevrolet did not design it for towing they give no weight capacities for towing so there is no way of knowing what towing your 2021 Harley Davidson CVO Tri-Glide could damage on your Camaro. If you choose to tow it I recommend finding a very light trailer as the Tri-Glide weighs 1,269lbs and the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24938 is rated for up to 2,000lbs.
