I am goig to have a local hitch shop install. Too difficult for me. I will let you know how it works out and how much they charge. Packaging was good
I installed this hitch last June and it's performed well. I initially wanted the Draw-Tite but it was out of stock. This Curt hitch looks decent, tucked relatively tight to the underside of the car. Installation was a bit difficult, especially as I had no help (other than a hydraulic jack), but the etrailer video really helped. A few tips:
- Make sure to get the rear of the car up high enough to drop the cross-member & exhaust. Also, to make some elbow room since some of the fasteners take some torque to loosen.
- I found that I could slide off all of the rubber hangers instead of unbolting the mounts, made assembly a bit quicker.
- When drilling holes through the heat shields, be sure to measure carefully to get them in the right spots.
- Fishing the bolts through the unibody was surprisingly easy, I was most worried about this step.
- I used my jack to support the hitch while raising it up for bolting. It's heavy and difficult to balance, so a second person (and some wood blocks) would help out a lot to get things lined up for fastening.
- Read the usage instructions. Curt notes that unsupported loads (like a bicycle rack) should be tethered back to the car, otherwise it voids the warranty.
Good luck!
Hitch looks great and installation was quite easy. The shop removed the mufflers as to have a large cool area to work on. Only problem is the 4 bolts should have been a quarter of an inch longer. We had to flatten some of the heat shield to get the nuts threaded on the bolts supplied.
Shipping was very fast. The price competitiveness and product quality are top-notch.
