Video Transcript for Draw-Tite 2-Ball Mount Review

Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today we're going to be checking out the Draw-Tite dual ball trailer hitch ball mount. So if you plan on pulling a trailer, of course, you're gonna need a way to hook it up to your hitch. And that's exactly what a ball mount is gonna allow you to do. Now, when it comes to choosing a ball mount for your particular application, it really is a, an important choice, you know. You want to make sure to get the one that is gonna work best for your particular situation.

And you want to capitalize on that. You know, there is a ton of different ball mounts available. You know, you have the most basic ones, all the way up to really nice ones. You know, they're made from different materials and completely adjustable, and then you have everything else in between. And this one here kind of falls somewhere in the middle there, you know, it's really simple, but versatile at the same time.

Well built. And I say that because it's gonna have two balls that are already attached. So pretty common sizes. One of the sizes will be a two inch ball and that's arguably probably the most common, you know, ton of people have trailers with two inch couplers. So this ball here has gonna allow you to tow those.

And then this side here is gonna be a 2 5/16 inch ball. So if you have a couple of different, you know, trailers, maybe let's say utility trailer and maybe a bumper pull camper or something like that. That uses a large ball. This one ball mount is going to allow you to tow both of them. This particular ball mount is going to have a straight shank.

So it's gonna come right out and we'll kind of touch base more on that here in a little bit and figure out, you know, if that's the right thing you need, you know, in some cases you might need one that drops out or comes up. Or if that said, you know, I'm a big fan of, of these multi-purpose ball mounts, you know. I actually used one myself. It's just nice to have, you know, both sides balls that you need in one mile, you know what I mean You're not dealing with two separate ball mounts and keeping them in your, in your tow vehicle or trying to switch, you know, back and forth in between different sized balls. You kind of just have one deal and it takes care of everything. With that side, you know, one thing that I really like about this setup is it's going to be completely solid. So I mean, this thing is no joke. It's heavy, it's solid steel. You know what I mean, some of them are hallow in there, nothing wrong with that. I mean, it's hard to argue a solid piece of steel though. You know, that thing's gonna be strong and hold up. So regardless of what your towing, whether it be something light or pretty heavy, you know, instead of, you know, it's gonna give you a little more peace of mind, give you a little more confidence whenever you're towing it down the road. So I do just kind of want to touch base and go over how to figure out, you know, if a straight shank tight ball mount like this one, it's gotta be right for you, that way you can kind of figure it out and make sure you get what you need the first time. And it's super easy. Just we're gonna grab a couple of measurements and that's really all there is to it. So what you're gonna want to do, let's try to get on level ground and backed up your vehicle to your trailer. Kind of like what we have going on here today. We want to adjust your front of your trailer to make sure it's level. And all you gonna do is take a tape measure and go from the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube opening, all right, record that measurement. And then you're gonna measure from the bottom of your coupler to the ground, and what you're going to do is subtract your coupler height from the receiver tube opening height, and whatever that difference is, is the amount of drop or rise that you're gonna need. In our case, you know, I measured earlier on our Jeep here, it's within about an inch. So the straight type shank is perfectly acceptable. And, you know, just kind of from what I've seen in the past, it seems like most smaller trucks and kind of bigger SUV's, a lot of them, you can get away with the straight, you know, straight shank ball mount. But you know with that said, never hurts just to double-check. But other than that, you know, let's kind of get back and talk about the ball mount itself and just kind of go over some of the basics. So this is gonna work with those hitches that are two inch by two inch. So a really common size it'll work with a lot of different vehicles on the road. And as far as the weight capacities go, it's gonna be pretty south, you know, having that's a solid steel design. If you're using the two inch ball, like the position, we have it here right now, that's gonna be good for a thousand pounds of tongue weight. So that's the amount of weight pushing down on it and 10,000 pounds of gross trailer weight. So that there'll be the weight of a trailer plus anything you have on it. And that's gonna be how much weight is actually pulling back here. Now, if you we're to flip it over and you use the 2 5/16 ball, the weight capacity does increase, maximum gross tongue weight rating goes up to 1,600 pounds and the maximum gross trailer weight rating goes up to 16,000 pounds. Now this is going to vary depending on what type of vehicle you're using, but I do always like to recommend, it's never a bad idea just to grab your vehicle's owner's manual and make sure you double check and see how much weight it's actually rated to tow. The ball mount is going to have that standard five, eight size pin hole. And it does not come with a pin and clip, just to throw that out there. If you need one, you can get it here at etrailer, and you can also get a couple other things too. We had some people asking about vibration, and this is super typical for pretty much any accessory you put in a hitch. you know, you are gonna have a little bit of movement there. It's not out of the ordinary by any means, but what you can do to, to correct that issue is you use what's called a, an anti-rattle device. And what that's gonna do is pretty much eliminate all that slop or play there in the connection point and keep everything super solid and prevent it from bouncing around. So I check that out, if it's something that interests you. And I mean, there's a couple of other things too. You know, one of them that a lot of people like to use is a locking type, hitch pin. Now some people leave this in or use it all the time, so they don't want to deal with taking them in and out. And if you use a locking hitch pin, what it's gonna do is secure it and prevent someone from just coming up and pulling the standard type worn out and run off with your ball mount. Something I do want to kind of cover here is just the overall length and a couple of measurements with the ball mount. And generally speaking, you know, this is gonna work with a ton of different applications, but something to think about, you know, like today, perfect example on our Jeep here, we have our spare tire back here and it's cutting it pretty close. You know, if it was any shorter, probably wouldn't be able to use it or at least very easily. So I'll go ahead and pull this out so we can take a quick peek at it. And if you look the overall length of the ball mount out here, so from end to end is gonna be 12 and 1 8/7 inch. And then if you go from the center of our pin hole to the center of the ball, that's going to be 8 and 1/4 inch. So if you think you're gonna be cutting to close, you can take these measurements here and check your own vehicle and make sure everything's gotta clear. Whenever you are ready to hook up, you know, pretty basic stuff here. You just get every single line on up, and it feels pretty good. And the trailer dropping down onto it. It's nice and smooth that don't get hung up or anything like that. So, you know, you have a nice, good connection point and you're ready to pull your trailer down the road. So at the end of the day, you know, a pretty nice ball mount, you know, like I said, kind of falls into the middle of the road there as far as the, you know, different types of ball mounts. And it's just nice to kind of cover, you know, all your bases with one ball mount, you know, if you have a couple different type of trailers, you know, he can pull both of 'em with one, or if you end up in the future getting another type of trailer or, you know, maybe have to pull a friend's or something, you never really know what you're gonna run into. So something like this, you know, you're definitely gonna be prepared, And that'll finish up our look at of the Draw-Tite dual ball trailer hitch ball mount..

This is a heavy duty item and I suspect itll last a lifetime.

Every item I have purchased off of etrailers has been beneficial to my organization, did not hurt that I already knew what we needed but the price was right and it was delivered to our doorstep. Items we have purchased range from tri/bi and adjustable ball mounts to load locks.

by:

I bought this stinger to use on the rear 3 point hitch trailer mover on the rear and also on the skid steer quick attach 3 point-trailer mover loader attachment for the front of my tractor. When I have my backhoe on the tractor, I can now move them (8 trailers), plus 3 point attachments around to mow or work on my storage area. My rural property lies in a flood plain, so I've hauled in gravel fill over the years and now have a pad 50' x 80' x 4' deep which is 2' above the 100 year flood mark. I keep adding to it as I continue to build a wild life pond. The ground is used by mule and white tail deer, elk, pheasants, quail ducks and canada geese.

This reversible ball mount is exactly as described. It is super heavy duty and the shipping was very fast. Communication with etrailer was great. Nothing but a great experience. When I need another trailer part, etrailer will be the first place I shop!!!! Great work guys.

  • What do you Recommend for a Class 3 Cushioned Ball Mount Rated for 7,500 lbs. Without a Rise
I have two really good options for you that offer a zero rise. The Draw-Tite 2-Ball Mount for 2" Hitches part # 80796 has both a 2" and a 2 5/16" ball and is rated for up to 16.000 lbs. It does not have the cushioned feature you asked about but gets the job done. For the shock absorption you want the Gen-Y Torsion 2-Ball Mount w/ Stacked Receivers part # 325-GH-1024 this also has the 2 and 2 5/16" balls and is perfectly suited for your trailer and tongue weight assuming it is 10-15% of...

  • Recommended 0 Rise Ball Mount
I do have an option for you but all of our one piece zero rise ball mounts come with multiple hitch balls. There are option that only include two though, the Draw-Tite 2-Ball Mount for 2" Hitches part # 80796 for 2" and 2-5/16".

  • Ball Mount Recommendation with Zero Drop
The only way to get a zero rise/drop ball mount is with a double ball mount like the part # 80796 which comes with a 2 inch and a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball. This would be a great fit though and gives you flexibility with future trailer coupler sizes too. Check out the review video I attached for more info as well.

  • How to Remove Play and Rattle from Ball Mount in Trailer Hitch
The rattle or play you experienced is very common and the solution isn't to replace the ball mount with a tighter fitting one as that's not really possible but is to use an anti-rattle device like the part # 63232. This installs in the shank of the ball mount and when tightened holds it tight to the inside of the hitch tube and cuts out all of the play and movement. The # 63232 actually doubles as a hitch lock as well which is nice and also will work great with the part # 80796. I attached...

  • Three Ball Ball Mount # C45001 Recommended for 9000 lb Boat and 7500 lb Travel Trailer
The triple ball ball mount with the highest capacity we offer is the Curt # C45001. The 1-7/8 inch ball has a 5000 lb capacity, the 2 inch ball can handle 7500 lbs and the 2-5/16 inch ball is rated for 10,000 lbs. Another option you have is a Rapid Hitch Adjustable, Locking, Aluminum Ball Mount Kit, part # AM3400. I am sorry, we do not offer a ball mount manufacturer by the name of Kearns, and I could not find one from the research I conducted.
