BAKFlip F1 Tonneau Cover Operation Animation

The BAKFlip F1 tonneau cover delivers top-of-the-line truck bed protection and a tough, stylish look. This heavy-duty, tri-fold cover keeps your truck bed and cargo dry, cuts down on wind drag to improve your fuel mileage, and allows for full truck bed access without having to be removed. And because this tonneau mounts inside of your truck bed side rails, you get a low-profile look and you can still use your stake pockets to mount accessories.

Convenient Folding Design

BAKFlip F1 Tonneau Cover Folded Up

One of the BAKFlip F1's most attractive features is that it can be folded all the way up and remain securely positioned on your truck while you are driving, even at highway speeds. This means that you can haul large cargo without having to completely remove the tonneau. Simply unlatch each of the panels, fold them one on top of the other, and flip them back so that they sit upright against the cab of your truck.

BAKFlip F1 Tonneau Cover Tonneau Cover Prop Rod

Then flip up the prop rods that are attached to the tonneau's frame rails, slide the brackets on the cover down over the rods, and tighten the knobs on the brackets to secure the upright cover in place. Rubber bumpers on the cover prevent it from marking your cab or scratching the glass of your rear windshield. When the tonneau is in this position, your vehicle's third brake light will remain visible.

If you want to maintain visibility out of your rear window, you can secure the folded panels of the cover without propping them up against the cab using the tie-down straps and buckles included with the cover. Just fold up the first 2 panels of the cover, leaving the panel closest to the cab latched in place. Make sure both buckle clips are inserted into the buckle ends on the front header panel of the cover and adjust the straps to ensure the cover is secure.

Simple, One-Person Operation

BAKFlip F1 Tonneau Cover Panel Latches

The F1 is easy to operate. To unlatch the rear panel, drop your tailgate and pull either of the 2 release cords located along the bottom corners of the panel's housing. Either cord will release both of the integrated latches so that you can lift up the panel. To unlatch the second and third panels, pull the easy-to-reach release cords built into the corners of those panels. As a safety measure and to help you get to your gear in the dark, the F1 includes emergency release handles on both sides of your truck bed that glow in the dark.

To close the cover, simply fold the panels back down. Each panel will securely latch back into place under its own weight. When your tailgate is closed and locked, no one will be able to get in to open the cover, thus safeguarding your truck bed and its contents. The fiberglass-reinforced polymer construction will also prevent anyone from peeling the cover up at the sides or cutting through its center, ensuring additional security.

Heavy-Duty Construction

The BAKFlip F1's rugged construction makes it a great match for your truck, no matter what you do while at work or play. It's strong enough to hold up to 400 lbs of evenly distributed weight when it's folded down, so it can support your weight if you sit or stand on it.

BAKFlip F1 Tonneau Cover Close Up

Each 5/8" thick, fiberglass-reinforced polymer panel has a sturdy aluminum base with an insulated core that is made of top-quality, closed-cell foam to create a strong, heavy-duty cover. The polymer construction also ensures that the F1 stays cooler than an all-aluminum tonneau. The black powder coat finish with hair cell texture on top of the panels offers superior resistance to dents, dings, and harsh UV rays.

The frame rails are constructed of aircraft-grade, rustproof aluminum and have a sleek black, corrosion-resistant powder coat finish. And scuff-resistant, semigloss black rubber seals run all the way around the cover to help to keep water out of your bed. If any water does seep through, it will run along the gutter system that is built into the frame rails and will then exit through drain hoses that install behind your cab.

BAKFlip F1 Tonneau Cover Latch Housing

Glass-filled nylon latches in heavy-duty, injection-molded housings add to the F1's rugged design and ensure long-lasting, efficient operation. Flush hinges prevent ice and water from building up on the cover.

Easy, No-Drill Installation

BAKFlip F1 Tonneau Cover Installation

Installing the F1 is simple. All you need is a wrench, and you don't have to do any drilling. The tonneau's frame rails clamp to the inside of your truck bed side rails to create a base for the cover. The included bolts secure the front hinge rail to the frame rails at the cab. Slotted brackets on the hinge rail allow the bolts to shift in case you need to adjust the cover to achieve a snug fit.

Video Transcript for BAK BAKFlip Hard Tonneau Cover Review - 2012 Honda Ridgeline

Today on our 2012 Honda Ridgeline, were going to be installing the BAK Backflip F1 Hard Tonneau Cover in a folding design out of aluminum and fiber glass, part number BAK72601. Now that weve shows you what the tonneau cover looks like in the folded or closed position, lets go ahead and show you what it looks like in the stored or in the upright position, so you fold the tailgate down. Now to unfold the rear hatch or any of the hatch sections, you can pull on this cable right here that releases the locking mechanism, and you can open it up from either the driver or the passenger side. Now if you look up here, each of the other panels, it has this cable mechanism as well which unlatches the panel as you move forward. Again, you can open it from either side by simply pulling on the cable in order to release the locking mechanism. Well then take one of the pop rods. Youll fold it up, slide it underneath this plastic track here.

Youll loosen up the plastic handle knot. Push down, tighten it back up. Go ahead and repeat the same process over on the driver side. Now with the tonneau cover in the upright position and in the locked upright position with our two pop rods, it gives you access and will allow you to haul a larger item in the bed.You can also drive down the road with it stored in the upright position as long as you have the pop rods secured and tightened back down. It will keep the tonneau cover nice and tight, and will not allow it to flip back forward nor will it fold forward and hit the back of your cab.

The drain hose allows water collected from the side rail to drain out of the stake pocket hole, keeping the bed of your truck dry. To begin with, were going to first go ahead and lower down the tailgate. Now, were going to go ahead and show you how to install the rail over here on the driver side. Now, keep in mind, anything that we show you over here on the driver side will be exactly the same over on the passenger side. Now to begin with, were going to need to remove this bolt right here. Now to do that, youre going to need a T40 torques head or star-head bit.

Next, were going to need to come up here into the corner. Were going to need to remove this tie-down bracket. Now, this star bolts are a little bit larger, so youre going to need a T50 to remove both of these. Well go ahead and remove the tie-down hook as well as the two bolts. We will not be reinstalling any of the hardware that we just removed.

Its a good idea to go ahead and clean out any dirt that may be in this pocket area while youre in there.Next, were going to need to go ahead and attach our rail. Now, heres what the driver side looks like. Well be using a mounting location here and the rail that will line up with the center hole from the screw we removed as well as this front one here has one hole. Now, I know we removed two bolts up here. Well only be using the rear hole to attach the rail. The front hole, its okay that theres not a screw back in it, so Im going to go ahead and line our rail up. Were going to take the smaller of the two Phillips head screws that come with the kit, and it will go through the hole right here, and well thread in. Well just going to leave that just snug for now till we get the other hardware installed.Go ahead and move up to the front where well be putting the larger Phillips head screw in. Were just going to go ahead and clean this area right up in here. Were just going to use a little bit of rubbing alcohol and a paper towel as were going to need to attach a plastic cover. Next, were going to need to take this little plastic cover here. Its got a couple strips of adhesive tape on the backside. This will be used to cover up that recessed area and help keep water from getting in there. Just set down on there like that, and it will just cover it up. To attach it, well just peel the backing off the tape, and then well attach it.Next, were going to need to attach our drain hoses. They go here on the underside of the rail. In this case, were going to peel back this bed liner. Right underneath this plug here, there is actually a drain, so were going to actually route our tube over to it. Now to get the plug out, just a flathead screwdriver along the edge. We will not be putting this back in, so go ahead and take our tube. Were going to go through the front tie-down loop. Well pull it up, slide it on to the drain fitting, then bring it over. Now, we will need to trim the tube or the hose down a little bit. Its a little too long. Were just going to use a pair of cutters. You can use a razor knife, whatever other means you want to use to cut your tubing. There is a drain that is in the bottom of this that will allow the water to exit once it goes into there. In this case, we have this mat in the bed. It goes back down on top. It will make sure it stays in place. Next, we can go ahead and attach our pop rod. Well attach this end here thats set up to accept the ball and socket just right here. To put it on, you just simply push it in place. When not in use, you fold it down, and it will be stored right here in this clip. Now, its a good idea when setting the tonneau cover up in a position to get an extra set of hands to help you get it in the correct position. With the tonneau cover set up on top of the rails, we can go ahead and unfold it, and make sure that we have it positioned correctly. We may need to move it forward or backward depending on how it lines up at the front as well as here at the tailgate. Once weve checked that, we can go ahead and fold it back up, so that we can install our hardware. Now that weve gone ahead and folded the cover back up to this position where we just have the front section or front flab that we can move up and down, we need to go ahead and fold that down on top of the brackets.Well want to make sure that we push the cover forward, so that we get a good tight water seal up against the back glass area as theres a foam strip that runs along there. We want to make sure that the tonneau cover is sealed up or pushed tights against it. Now to secure the tonneau cover to the brackets on the rails that we installed earlier, were going to be using the hardware that looks like this. Well be using this bolt here with the rubber washer as well as the sleeve on it, and it will go on the four holes that are in the forward most panel on the tonneau cover, so theres two on each side that well be using. With each of the bolts installed from the topside, well go ahead and install the rubber washer, the flat washer, the lock washer, and the plastic handle nut. Well go ahead and just snug them down for now, and well do that for all four locations. Now that we have our hardware tightened down up at the front, we can go ahead and continue to fold our tonneau cover back down into position, making sure as we do that we hear it click. The clicking youre hearing is this little latches at each of the panels that secures it to the rail. Now for back here at the rear section, youre not going to want to fold that down yet until you close the tailgate first, so well go ahead and close the tailgate. Well then take the rear section. Go ahead and fold that one down. Pushing that down as well, making sure you hear it click or lock into position. I will go ahead and double check to make sure we have a nice seal across the tailgate here as well as in this area on both sides. Now on each side, youll notice here at the rear, there is one hole thats drilled in the rail. Now to secure this rail to the interior part of the bed, youll need to use one of the self-tapping screws that comes with the kit. Now, we have each of our self-tapping screws in, one on each side. We can go ahead and close our tailgate back up. Take the rear panel of the tonneau cover. Fold it back down into position, securing it down. With that, that will do it for the installation of the BAK Backflip F1 Hard Tonneau Cover, part number BAK72601, as installed here on our 2012 Honda Ridgeline. .

Easy to install and great fit. My only complaint was there was extra screws included. I had to watch install video to see if I had missed a step. Come to find out there was just extra screws.

by:

Quality addition to my truck-only bad part is the endcaps on each section. They have a habit of popping out of the channel which keeps it open in that section if you don't notice it right away, which allows water to get in as well as catch wind when on expressway. I use gaffers tape to try to mitigate but it does need to be redone on occasion. If this wasn't an issue I would have offered up 5 stars!

by:

I bought this cover because I have an F1 on my other truck and it has been a good cover. The F1 gets hot but not so hot you can't touch it in the summer. It does a great job of keeping out the weather and thieves. I have just finished installing it on my 2019 Ram 3500 long bed. The factory rails were out of spec by 3/16" so I had to trim them to fit. That is why I only rated it at 4 stars otherwise a very nice bed cover. I have had my other F1 for 7 years and it is still holding up well so I expect similar performance from this one. Being a long bed does make the panels a little more difficult to fold but it is still pretty easy.

by:

Just got it installed. The installation was easy and straight forward. Sits flush to the bed and looks great.

by:

I found the Back Flip cover a well-engineered cover. The cover works very well and with a some adjustment it can be waterproof.
The only issues I have had are the back flip knobs fall off and I have to replace one. The other is the interior panels dent very easily from cargo hitting it. I was planning on putting thin diamond plate panels to help prevent anymore damage.

by:

As my name suggests I carry boxes in the back of my truck on a regular basis, and they arrive dry every time.
Also, while pulling my Fifth-wheel it folds out of the way.

by:

Works great at protecting cargo. Am still able
To use the bed with my 5th wheel hitch by folding the cover.

by:

Bed Rug is a great product overall. Installation is straightforward and easy. I do recommend the use of denatured alcohol after scuffing the spray-in bedliner, to promote the best adhesion. You can purchase a quart at any big box home improvement store. Caution: This product is highly volatile, so be sure to use in an outdoor space and wear the minimum of chemical protective gloves and eye protection. Also, avoid inhaling the fumes! The only reason I gave this product 4 stars is that it doesn’t quite fit very well on the rear sides of the pickup box, where the Canyon has multiple “ribs” near the tailgate. Other than that, it looks great and is a real treat to sit on, particularly when I installed the Bak Flip F1 bedcover.

by:

Easy to install, largely but not completely weatherproof. The cover has been installed for a year on a truck that sits outside with no fading or deterioration evident. It could do with a couple more rivets that hold the wire to the release mechanism near the tailgate as the plastic tubing occasionally pops out of the track that holds it in. It is easy to pop back into place though.

by:

It is a horrible cover, it leaks, it is way to heavy, parts already starting to fail.

by:

I like that your able to fold the cover to completely utilize the bed,
I don’t like that the plugs on both sides on each section where the cover hinges continuously keep coming out.
I would look at other covers before I would buy this one again.

by:

Love this cover. Works to haul anything I could without a cover. The fact I can configure it to haul and secure just about anything that I can get in the box. I’ll never have a different cover on a pickup.

by:

Great cover, easy to use. The only issue is that some water will leak into the bed especially near the corners.

by:

2022 2500HD long bed. I’ve had several different bed covers on tricks in the past. The is the first time I coughed up the $$$ for a BAKFlip and it’s worth the money. My only complaint is that it is nowhere near water proof and when it rains the contents of your bed will get wet.

by:

I really like this cover, it has four panels that fold back and you can secure. Whenever I am towing my 5th wheel it folds back to the first panel. That provides coverage for my tool box, generator and other items that I don't want to be exposed while traveling. It was easy to install, it locks and it dresses up the bed of my truck. I definately recommend this cover and esp to those that pull a trailer.

by:

This product fits my needs perfectly. When towing my 5th wheel I leave 2 panels down and still have a partially protected bed.

by:

Love it. Just wish there was a tie down for when you just have 2 folds open.

by:

Great quality. Easy Install.

by:

It would be a great cover if it didn’t leak. I have to be very mindful of what I put in the bed so it doesn’t get damaged by water.

by:

Excellent product. Purchased for my 2018 F350 Dually to cover my 5th wheel hitch and tool box when not pulling the trailer. Self install. No issues in 12 months of usage. Recommend this cover.

by:

My entire experience with etrailer.com was excellent. I spent numerous hours researching the hitch and tonneau cover set up I wanted for my 2014 Ford F250. The majority of my time was on the etrailer.com website reviewing Q&A, installation guidance and videos, and expert advise. I chose the Reese Elite Series 5th wheel hitch and the BakFlip F1 tonneau cover. Both products arrived within 10 business days. Installation was as easy and straightforward as expected. The BakFlip F1 really dresses up my F250 and the BakFlip technology makes it very easy to use and gives me full access to my truck bed as needed. The Reese hitch has performed flawlessly.

by:

I have been very impressed with this cover. It protects things inside from the weather whether rain or sun or cold. It also allows my dirt bike to be transported with out removal.
I loaned my truck to a buddy to haul two dirt bikes and some how he broke the hold up bars bracket to the bed for full use position, but that is not the fault of the BAK72207.

Highly recommend this bed cover if you live in hot or cold areas or transport quads or dirt bikes.

by:

This is one of those components you get what you pay for and I couldn’t be happier. Fits perfect, looks every bit as great as shown in all the pictures. My brand of 5th wheel hitch fits below it.
*** 1 Issue - The installation instructions have room for improvement, having poor illustrations and reads difficult. The installation of this product is extremely easy but the instructions make it sound difficult.

by:

If you want a cover that is secure and leaks this one is perfect. If it rains you are guaranteed to get your belongings soaking wet.

by:

The Bak Flip F-1 has proven to be an excellent cover for my 2020 GMC 2500HD. It was easy to install with a friends help. It is a good looking cover and has been waterproof. It is very secure with the gate locked. Very pleased.

  • Does The BAKBox 2 and BAKFlip Cover Allow Access To Trunk In Honda Ridgeline
The BAKBox 2 Truck Bed Toolbox part # BAK92601 measures 10" wide so it should not interfere with the trunk lid but you want to measure the clearance between the open trunk lid and the cab to be sure. However, the BAKBox 2 attaches to BAKFlip tonneau cover G2 part # BAK26601, BAKFlip tonneau cover F1 part # BAK72601 or BAKFlip tonneau cover FiberMax part # BAK126601 for the 2011 Honda Ridgeline. • Tonneau Cover and Rack Options for 2007 Honda Ridgeline
The tonneau cover manufacturers do offer some covers for other trucks that have the T-slots in the side rails that can be used tor installing a ladder rack like the Yakima OverHaul HD, but unfortunately they don't offer anything like this for your 2007 Honda Ridgeline. If the 165 lb capacity of a standard roof rack would work for you, your best bet would be to go with a tonneau cover like the BAK BAKFlip F1 you'd looked at, part # BAK72601 and use a roof rack on the vehicle. The BAKFlip F1 Hard Tonneau Cover # BAK72601, which is a fit for your 2012 Honda Ridgeline, will be installed in the same manner as you see in the attached demonstration video. I also attached a link to the instructions which are somewhat universal which is why it mentions bed rails, although your vehicle does not have them so you can disregard that part. You don't have to worry about your vehicle not having bed rails because this is made to fit your Ridgeline.
