  • Lug nut/bolt size: 19 mm, and 21 to 22 mm
  • Quantity: 2 chains
  • Internal clearance required: none
  • 5-Year warranty

Note: To determine whether you can use snow chains on your vehicle, or if they might affect your ABS/EPS functionality, consult your owner's manual.

If you're looking for a way to get traction in the snow without scratching your rims, these K-Summit chains are your best option. The chain only sits on the tire tread and is fastened to one of the lug nuts on your wheel with an easy-to-use fixing key. There are no attachments behind the wheel like typical tire chains, which ensures that there is no interference with any suspension or braking components on the inside of the wheel well. You won't have to stop and readjust these chains either - they self-tension, self-center, and conform to the tire perfectly as you drive, providing a precise fit even on worn tires. These chains are ideal for use in light snow and ice.

Class S Designation

SAE Class S tire chains are designed for use on passenger vehicles with restricted wheel-well clearance. Most newer cars, vans, and small trucks - especially those with large aftermarket tires - will require Class S chains. If you're unsure about the class of your vehicle, consult your vehicle's owner's manual.

SAE Class S Clearance Diagram

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you wont be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. Even these low-profile chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Tire Chains

Because these chains are customizable, the first fitting could take a little time but after that, it's simple. The included instructions will let you know if you need to adjust the chains based on your tire size.

Remove lug cover if present

1. To begin installation, you'll need access to your wheel's lug nuts. If you have a plate covering your lug nuts, pop it off using either the included Allen key or a flathead screwdriver.

Determine size of lug nuts

2. Determine which lug nut adapter you'll need to fit over the nut on your wheel. Attach that adapter to the included fixing key. The most commonly used adapters are included.

Lay chains over tire thread

3. Fit the chain over your wheel, getting it as far onto the tire as possible.

Tighten lug nut adapter

4. Using the fixing key, thread the included bolt into the adapter. The other end of the fixing key will attach to the K-Summit base, which includes the ratcheting mechanism that tensions the chains as you drive.

The adapter secures over your lug nut to hold the K-Summit base in place on your wheel. You might need to use the included spacer to get the chains to sit properly.

Quick Tips:

  • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
  • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing chains out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

Purchased these awesome chains because my 2019 traverse has custom wheels (wider) so traditional chains/cables that wrap around the wheels would cause damage to my brake components. The instructions in the manual can be a little confusing but read and watch the tutorial video and you'll be good to go. I had to remove the exact amount of bolts from the chains it recommended in the manual for my wheels, 5 if I remember correctly. After a couple dry runs installing/removing at home I was ready for big bear. The family and I spent Thanksgiving up on big bear and yes, it snowed A LOT!! The chains worked great and along with a lot of looks from other drivers, I even got compliments from the locals there that obviously are used to driving with chains. When it came time to take them off halfway down the mountain, it was super fast and easy I was done in no time. NOTE: the bolt that goes over the lug nut leaves an indentation on your lug nuts, especially if your vehicle has the chrome finished ones like mine does. Have to buy a new set of front wheel lug nuts and use the old ones for when we drive up to the snow again and use these cool chains!

I received excellent service from William at etrailer.com. He promptly answered my questions and took my order. The tire chains were shipped the same day and delivered as promised. Kudos to etrailer for their customer service.

This product is top notch. The chains are very easy to install and work very well on icy and snow covered roads at our home in the Eastern Sierras.

@PaulB That's great to hear! We're glad your K-Summit chains are working well for you!

So far so good. I’m waiting for snow before I give 5 stars.
It’s recommended you fit the chains before you actually need them to get familiar with the innovative design. I had to remove all 5 yellow bolts since my wheels are larger. Keep the extra hardware but you won’t need them unless you change cars.
Once fitted you’re good to go.
Wear gloves to mount them in about 5 minutes.

I'm going to start this off by saying they were a bit on the pricey side. But then I'm going to say that they were definitely worth it. They are easy to put on and take off. They hold very securely, and they handle magnificently. I spent last winter driving over the Donner Summit in California every single weekend and the chains kept my Lexus in complete control the entire time. I would definitely buy them again.

Fantastic product! The chains were easy to set up and install on my Audi Q7. They worked perfectly.

You will never find better customer service than what I received from etrailer.com and Konig (Pewag). I wish all companies were that good!

Shipment was delayed and therefore unusable for my long holiday roadtrip. I paid ~$[XX] expedited shipping for no reason.

2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Konig self-tensioning snow chains I purchased were easy to install and worked great. However, I only used them once as a test to check them out. It had snowed just before I received them so the timing was great. I live in an area (East Tennessee) that has steep grades so I tested the chains on the grades-forward and backward while moving, stopped on the steepest grade and able to drive away without slipping, and effective when stopping. The chains were also easy to remove. I've done a lot of driving in the snow all over the US and also in Canada using a variety of chains including ice chains with v bars. The Konig chains were by far the easiest chains I've ever had to install. Incidentally, I have a Trail Rated 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited vehicle which I believe worked nicely to enhance the capabilities of both the Jeep and the chains.

Hi Patrick, Maybe its global warming but I havent had any snow required for my Konig chains. However, after my previous excellent experience that I wrote about, Im pretty sure they will work fine if needed. Many thanks for keeping in touch. Best wishes, Gary

They worked good. I tried them a couple times before really needing them. One came off in trial run. The part that goes over the lug needs to be tightened correctly and kept on straight (and be sure to tighten until the wrench clicks) and then not over tighten rachet. I would recommend. I can use this set on multiple vehicles by adding screw tensioner or removing.

by:

Great customer service! Was able to get a replacement bag that was broken for the tire chains and it came in a week. Thank you for promptly addressing.

by:

These things are awesome. Tahoe snow is wet and it freezes. Chains in general are a pita but these are super easy to put on and take off. No tension or torque wrench needed. They self adjust and are quick to put on. Practice first so you can pull out any of the interior links and get the fit right but after that you’re rocking and rolling. I’ve got them on my 2018 Audi Q7 with 20” All Weather run flats. I had to remove one or two of the width adjusting screws.

by:

Customer service was very good. Chains went on as noted in the youtube video etrailer had online. I did have some difficulties getting the bolt to seat properly in the part that attaches to the lug nut. After that was figured out all went well. Only other thing of note was shipping times. Was supposed to get them within 4 days which would have been perfect as it was a few days before my trip to Mt Hood. Chains arrived 5 days after our trip. Luckily didn't need chains. Probably not the fault of etrailer as delivery with everyone is slow due to covid. I only mention this so others can use expedited shipping if they need their products right away.

2021 BMW X7

I love these chains! I purchased them for a BMW X7 M50i, tire size 275/40r22 in front, 315/35r22 rear. The close fit of the chains fits my snow tires without causing damage to the vehicle or tires. It took a bit to figure out installation - the included directions remind me of IKEA instructions (few words, over simplified pictures). The online videos were the most helpful helpful for set-up/fit adjustment and installation. Also, be sure to get the ratchet assembly as close to flush with the wheel as possible. The chains won’t tighten properly if you fail this step. It took a few attempts to get them on the first time because of the learning curve. And still, it was maybe an hour from start to finish, including the removal of screws and changing the lug nut spacer to customize the fit. Once I had that done, actual installation was maybe 5 minutes. I had to drive further than 5 feet to achieve self-tightening (the videos don’t show this), and definitely check that they are secure before driving at speed. Overall, I am confident I can install these alone in adverse weather conditions, should the need arise. I plan to purchase more for other vehicles.

Just put the chains on for a practice round. Very straightforward, and I think it will be routine even in difficult conditions. I have large tires, and this was the only product which fit. These are heavy duty chains, and I am very satisfied. etrailer has a user friendly website, and when it looked like the chains wouldn't reach me in time for my next trip, etrailer pulled out all the stops to get them to me before I departed. I will be visiting the website for more products shortly.

Honda Element

The instructions for chain fittings and installation were detailed and understandable.

The only problem was removing regulation elements for adjusting chain dimension. The nut with "lock tight" required a vise grip because the hex tool would strip the element.

The chains are ready for snow and ice to come.

Easy ordering process chains arrived in Seattle 2 days later with free shipping. Chains were for 275/50 20 tires for a MB GLE 450 Instructions called for (4) pins to be removed. Took 10 mins to put chains on. Instructions were good. I would recommend this product and trailer and etrailer

by:

Tested it out on a new vehicle at home and it was a pretty straight forward fit. Just make sure you have the right lug nut attachment and spacers set up and the rest is easy.

More importantly, Adam at eTrailer was awesome. Helped me make sure what I needed (very last minute) for our vehicle and tires and was super friendly doing so.

Would definitely buy from Adam again!

by:

Very good product although a little difficult to attach securely. They quickly made good on a warranty claim.

I reached out to Firestone for a measurement from the tires on the Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs # F2245 for your 2003 Toyota Tundra as we have not installed these in our facility to measure. While they were unable to give me any measurement they only mentioned needing to have at least 1" of clearance from the air springs to any moving object. • Tire Chain Recommendation for 255/60-20 Tires on 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee
According to Konig, there isn't a K-Summit chain available that's compatible with your 255/60-20 tire size. We do offer chains that will fit that tire size, but nothing that offers rim protection. The easiest to install chains would be a cam-tensioner style chain like the Titan Chain # TC2228CAM. Even though the chains offer integrated cams to tighten them, I'd still recommend using a tensioner like part # TCMA2 to keep the chains tight to the tire. What I've seen folks do in the past...

For transportation on ice, the Konig chains include icebreaker reinforcements that help bust apart ice beneath the tires during travel. These chains will fit your...

  • Snow Tire Chains For 255/50-20 Tires on Land Rover LR4
We do have snow tire chains that fit 255/50-20 tires like what are on your Land Rover LR4, though the ones you mentioned, the Konig K-Summit Tire Chains # TH02230K77 are not a fit. These chains are Class S for minimal clearance, and the only Class S chains that fit your tires are also from Konig, but a different style: - Konig K-Summit Tire Chains # TH02230K77 The # TH02230K77 install on the lug nut, and because of that are actually the only chain that requires zero clearance on the inside...

  • Snow Chain Recommendation for a 2007 Mercedes GL450 with 275/55R19 Size Tires/Wheels
The first thing I would recommend you do is check the owners manual of your 2007 Mercedes GL450 to see if there are any restrictions on snow chain use. In an all-wheel drive vehicle you will want to at least put one set of chains on the front wheels. Like you said, that way you have traction on the wheels that do the steering and the majority of the braking. Hills are also managed better with chains on the front wheels instead of the back. We had a snow chain rep tell us that when going...

  • Recommended Snow Tire Chains for a 2020 Ford Explorer XLT with 255/55-20 Tires
The Konig Premium Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains, # TH02230K77 are confirmed to fit the 2020 Ford Explorer equipped with 255/55-20 tires, this is my preferred option. The Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains, # TC2324 that you linked to are an excellent option in their price point but not confirmed for the 255/55-20 tires. My other recommendation for a lower price point than the Konig option is, the Glacier V-Bar Snow Tire Chains with Cam Tighteners, # PWH2828SC using the Glacier Multi-Arm...

  • Recommended Snow Tire Chains for a 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS with 275/55-19 Tires
I think you meant 275/55-19 and in which case the Konig Premium Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains part # TH02230K77 are what you're are going to want to use on the rear wheels since they don't go around the inside of the tire so there will be no tire clearance issues. These are also the same chains recommended by Mercedes. They are super easy to install once you get them setup the first time and there is very minimal contact with the vehicle.

  • Recommended Snow Tire Chain or Cables Options Compatible With 2017 Jeep Wrangler
For your 2017 Jeep Wrangler with 225/75R17 tires, your manufacturer recommends in your owners manual to only use tire chains on the rear tires. Jeep recommends only using Class S rated chains on some tires, but it doesn't specify your tire size. If you want cable style chains, then I recommend the Titan Chain Cable Snow Tire Chains - Ladder Pattern - Steel Rollers - 1 Pair # TC2019 along with the Titan Chain Multi-Arm Rubber Tire Chain Adjuster for Light Trucks # TCMA2 to keep them...

  • Tire Chain Recommendation for 2018 GMC Acadia 235-55R20
Yes, the Konig K-Summit tire chains part # TH02230K77 that you referenced is a confirmed fit for your tire size of 235/55R20 that you have on your 2018 GMC Acadia. I looked up your lug nut size and you would not need that adapter either since you have 22 mm lugs and this comes with a fit for that size.

  • What Pattern Tire Chain Do Your Recommend For My 2003 GMC Sierra 2500HD Towing A 5th Wheel
Tire chains typically come in two patterns, diamond and square. Diamond shaped tire chains will give you a smoother ride and square chains will typically be more durable and provide better traction. Chains do not come in a one size fits all configuration. You will have to choose a chain that fits your needs. I am partial to diamond shaped chains for the smoother ride. My tire chain recommendation is the Konig Premium Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - D Link - K-Summit...
