Comparing Low Profile Tire Chain Options For A 2022 Lincoln Navigator With 255/50-20 Tires
Question:
Hello! I have a 2022 Lincoln Aviator, with tire size 255/ 55/ R20. I live close to the Sierras and want the ability to have chains with me, just in case. I dont plan to drive if road conditions are too adverse, however I would like to be prepared. I would appreciate your help recommending the right solution for my vehicle and also between the types of options you offer. Per my owners manual, it states to only install chains that are 10mm or less. It also recommends to only use chains that fit against the sidewalls to prevent the chains from touching the wheels or suspension. Photo pasted below of tire size, with view of wheel and wheel well. Thank you!

We can definitely help set you up with tire chains for your 2022 Lincoln Aviator. Since the owners manual specifies 10mm or less, you will need to go with a low-profile or "class-S Compatible" chain. Out of the options that fit the 255/55-20 tires, this leaves us with two options. The Titan Chain Cable Tire Chain # TC747DC and the Konig K-Summit Tire Chains # TH02230K77.
The Titan Cables # TC747DC are more of a low-cost option. While cables will provide additional traction and safety this is more of a "just in case" item that you can keep in the car when traveling through places where chains are required. Cables require you to lay out the chain and drive over to make your connections, a process that can be a lot less fun in wet/snowy conditions. You will also need to use a few Titan Chain Multi-Arm Rubber Tire Chain Adjusters # TCMA2 for additional tension. Cables are not especially durable either, and they come with only a 30 day warranty. So if you just want something to get you by, and keep you "legal", then this is the option for you.
The Konig K-Summit Chains # TH02230K77 are the premium option. These are the ideal low-profile chains, as they contact only the tire tread, and take up no space on the sidewall of the tire. The chain anchors to the wheel lug nut, so there is no risk the chain contacting and scratching your wheels or suspension. They are also a very easy install, you simply drape the chain over the tire and attach the lug nut anchor. The chain will automatically tension as you drive. Also these chains use a diamond pattern which will offer superior, constant traction while driving. These will provide much better results than the Titan Cables. With proper usage, the Konig chains are expected to last many years, and they come with a 5 year warranty. The only downside is they do carry a much higher price tag.
In my opinion, the Konig chains are worth the investment. Especially living in the Sierra where chains will likely be needed on many occasions during the winter. Having a high quality, easy-on easy-off chain that will last multiple seasons is the way to go. If they are a bit out of your price range, the Titan Cables will do just fine, just in case.
