Speaker 1: Today on our 2016 Toyota Camry we're going to be test fitting the Yakima Core Bar Roof Rack System. The Yakima Core Bar Roof Rack System is great for carrying a wide variety of accessories on your Camry, such as bike racks, cargo baskets, and cargo boxes. It combines two things. It combines the strength of the round or square bars with the aerodynamics of your aero bars. While it is aerodynamic, it is going to cut down wind noise or drag. However, you cannot use T-track accessories with these bars.
They're very easy to install. They simply clamp around your existing doorframe and tighten down in place with an existing tool that does let you know if you've under-tightened it, or over-tightened it by having audible clicks once it's completely tightened down. With the end caps, they also have these in plastic knock outs which you can replace with the Yakima Same Key System to make it secure to your roof, but also to make a key to like with whatever it is you're hauling. To give you a couple of quick measurements, from the center of the roof to the bottom of the bar is going to be about three inches. From the center of the top is going to be about four and a quarter inches. That's more than enough space for accessories that wrap around your bars to be installed without affecting your roof.
These bars do have a combined carrying capacity of 220 pounds, but you always want to double check with your vehicle's manual to make sure your roof can withstand those weights. Now that we've gone over some of the features of the roof rack system, let's go ahead and show you how it installs. We have a front bar already installed on our vehicle and we'll show you how we got those measurements and where we got it to later. With our rear bar we have it partially assembled on our table here. Our next step is we're going to take our other baseline tower and start attaching it to the other side. First step is we'll take our plastic piece here and that just pushes in.
You'll hear a little bit of a snap. Then we'll take our metal bracket, put that on top. We'll pull this gray portion out. Then we'll flip it underneath. You'll see the screw there and we'll just, using our included tool, just loosely install that for now.
Then we'll slide that bracket onto our bar and then we'll flip it upside down and get everything set up there.Next, we want to make sure that there's the proper spacing in between the towers. You'll find this measurement in your instructions. We'll take our handy dandy measuring tape here, go to the scrap length. All right. Then we can go to that center bolt here and tighten it down. With our part in the center here you'll see three notches and this is going to be our pitch. You want to make sure that it's in the proper setting according to the instructions, which says it needs to be in the center one, or number two, or B. We'll tighten it down until you hear three audible clicks from our tightening tool here. There we go. Then we want to get our toe setting set up as well and that's going to be set to two or the center notch here. Loosen that up. As we move this, you'll see that our base here moves too. This is to better fit the contours of our Camry's roof. Then we'll take our pad from our clip kit and just push that into place. Then we'll install our end caps like so. Then we can set this on the roof of our vehicle and we'll be opening the two rear doors to install this for good. We'll set our rear bar down and next we'll measure from center to center of the bar to get that straightened out. But first, I do want to show you how this got to this position on the front. Once we had everything set, we simply measured from the edge of the glass here back to this point on both sides to keep it even. This measurement will be in your instructions as well. Also, if you have it you want to push in this gray tab at the top and that's going to cover up the bolt that tightens it down to the bar. We'll next open the gray door up at the front here and we'll install our rear clips.Let me just push in at the bottom here. You may have to loosen them up a little bit so they fit properly so it catches in place here. There we go. We'll do this on the other side as well. Next, I'll tighten this bolt down here and that's going to lower our clamp into position so it's around our doorframe. Then we can start tightening up the center bolt here, which is going to bring the clamp up against the doorframe. We'll do this on both sides until it's completely tightened down. Close the door. Our final step is we'll put the caps onto our towers. Then we're ready to load up our gear and hit the road. There you have it for the Yakima Core Bar Roof Rack System on our 2016 Toyota Camry.

These crossbars combine the strength of steel with an aerodynamic shape to create a heavy-duty yet quiet roof rack for your vehicle. Full-length bars maximize cargo carrying capacity and work with most clamp-on accessories.Excellent solution for my 2023 Chevy Silverado. In the past, I have had rails installed on the roof of my pickup trucks, but I find the BaseLine towers to be a better solution, since they don't permanently change the truck. Plus, they are much more solid than SkyLine system on the rails.
I've just recently installed this setup on my 2015 Toyota Camry.
etrailer - Shopping for this rack was fairly simple, and the shipping from etrailer was quick and reliable. I received the rack in 2 different shipments but they both arrived at the same time. etrailer made sure the all the contents were available. They also have several resourceful videos on their YouTube page, which was helpful while shopping for the rack and during a few trouble shooting items while I was installing.
Yakima Core Bar - Overall a quality product. Everything necessary was supplied, including a handy measuring tape and some very well written instructions. The fit is clean and very sturdy. The only qualm I have is that the hex hole in the large anchor bolts are a bit larger than the supplied hex driver. Toward the end of the installation, the tool was worn and ended up turning inside the bolt itself (not due to over torquing whatsoever). I ended up having to use a hex set I had in my toolbox to complete the installation because the provided tool was starting to strip out the anchor bolt. With that said, the kit is still a great kit that meets my expectations.
Wind noise is quieter than my OEM VW bars on my 2017 Volkswagen GTI. It's noticeable, but nothing extreme - I believe that's just the price you pay when adding crossbars to a vehicle.
Verdict - etrailer has definitely met my expectations, and the Yakima kit provided is a well designed kit that fits well!
From start to finish, the folks at etrailer -- and I spoke to several people there, so it was a consistent corporate vibe -- were fantastic to deal with.
There were delays in getting my product that were on the supplier side and out of etrailer's control, yet etrailer folks kept me up to date and also worked on a customized solution.
My goal was to be able to carry my surfboard on the roof of our 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe to the beach more than 3 hours away. But the particular model we had had no existing racks, no recessed areas, nothing to fix racks to. Not even the dealer had a solution. I was sh*t out of luck.
But etrailer hooked me up. The racks did take me a while to put on, but most of that time was fine tuning to reduce “hum” while driving. I’m very happy with them.
Thanks to etrailer, I have gone surfing and can go surfing whenever I'd like to.
Really easy to install & work as specified. So happy with the customer support/service at etrailer.
Follow the instructions, and you can't go wrong on the self installation
Love my Yakima roof rack!! It exceeds my expectations.great product. Also thank etrailer for the tec support! great staff always there to help thanks again!!
As described! Quick delivery!
Ackage came 2 days early the install was somewhat easy (did it by myself)
Did not get to mount anything to it but seems really sturdy. One thing I can say is mark out your mounting points with provided stickers then put up and make adjustments to the roof rack.
Great product great service
Well packaged and on time
So far so good. Purchased these towers to use on a 2022 GMC Canyon with HD bars that I already had, primarily to carry my canoe. Yakima's fitting instructions worked perfectly and the whole system seems really solid.
Should include extra end caps just in case they fall off.
These crossbars feel like they are well made and sturdy. It took less than 30 minutes to install with the Ridgeline Towers. I love the look of the bars! Can't wait to load the Kayaks up and get out on the water.
Your notice of schemes was a lot better than the yakima site provided. They did not suggest the scheme you did.
But when the products arrived, the instructions were by yakima. Generally worked as instructed except the tower to tower transverse mounting dimensions needed to be tweaked for a perfect fit.
Timely delivery of my order, as usual! Easy to install on my 2015 4Runner. After I had the mounts ready and put on both bars, I installed the front one and fine-tuned it, the second took even less time then. I now have the ability to carry up to 3 kayaks, perfect! etrailer is a great company!
Very sturdy, well made. The assembly instructions are not too good but if you call Yakima they will provide additional instructions.
I am thrilled this got delivered sooner than anticipated! It was quite easy to install once you started actually putting it together and measuring everything out. I like that this can easily be removed and installed onto the vehicle.
Great product fast shipping
Great! Easy to install!
Very happy with the Yakima roof top rack kit for my 2017 Ford Edge with glass roof. The instructions were a little confusing at first, but after reading through them a couple of times while working with the product they became much clearer. The Yakima fit site was helpful as well. After the initial cross bar mounting measurements and set up, attaching and detaching the racks from the roof is a very simple process.
Great product! Relatively easy install, had the racks on for a few days now with no issues.
Solid build quality and easy installation on my '21 Mazda CX-5.
I have a 2004 Toyota Camry, my purpose is to purchase this Yakima Baseline System for Rooftop tent. My 23Zero rooftop tent weighs 130 lb, so far it's super solid. I did some minor adjustments based on the shape and level of the roof when mounting it.
Relatively easy to install on my VW Golf (etrailer videos are very helpful) and sooooo useful with my Yakima skybox. Not much road noise, so I can leave the rack on even when I am not using it.
The towers are of great quality and construction. Instructions were semi-simple but as long as you read everything twice it’s easy. Great product, I’m very happy with my purchase!
