Speaker 1: Today on our 2015 Mazda CX-5, we'll be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Yakima Roof-Rack System. This is going to consist of the Yakima Jet Stream Crossbars, part number: Y00425, and the Yakima TimberLine Towers, part number: Y00147. Our crossbars are also available in silver with part number: Y00428.The Yakima Roof-Rack System is a great solution for carrying your vehicle accessories on your roof. Whether those are bike racks, ski and snowboard carriers or cargo baskets, it's going to free up space inside your vehicle and allow you to carry more gear. The aerodynamic shape of our bars, as well as the weatherstrip on the top and on the bottom once you replace it, are going to help to reduce wind, noise and drag. The top weatherstrip can actually be pushed down and we can add in channel-mounted accessories. This is great, unlike some other roof-rack systems that have you remove that weatherstrip and cut it down to place in those channel-mounted accessories. The TimberLine Towers on our Yakima Roof-Rack System has this plastic lock core that can be removed and replaced with a metal lock core from the Yakima Same-Key System Lock Core, that's going to help to prevent theft and tampering of your roof-rack system all together. Our TimberLine Towers are also going to have a rubber coating to prevent any scratches or abrasions, and it's going to have a strap that fits around underneath our raised rail and secures into itself.
It's going to give us a nice, secure fit and prevent any movement of our crossbars. The Yakima Roof-Rack System has a 165-pound weight capacity, though you do want to double check your vehicle's owner's manual to make sure your roof can withstand that much weight. It's also going to come with a limited-lifetime warranty and be quick and easy to install. We'll show you how to do that now.Now everything that you see on our table is what we will need for our installation. We already have our front bar installed, we'll show you how to do the back bar. We're going to provide our own flat tape measure, but everything else is included.
We'll have our included torque tool to tighten everything down. Our end cap for our crossbars. Our end caps for our towers, as well as the adapters to secure our towers to our crossbar system. The towers themselves. Then this weatherstrip that inserts in between our two towers, to take up any of the extra space and reduce wind, noise and drag. We'll start by taking our tower and we want to secure our adapter kit to it.
We'll take the black plastic piece first and click that into place. We can flip our tower over. We're going to push our strap so that it's all the way inside, and we'll losing up our bolt until we can see the bolt on the inside of our tower. We'll take the included silver adapter piece, place that on top and we can tighten our bolt down. We want to tighten our bolt down, and also that our adapters are flush with each other.
Then we can slide this onto our crossbar.Line these up and slide them into the channel at the bottom. Then we can take our end cap for our crossbar and place it on. Now at this point we would take that rubber insert on the inside, we can cut it down and insert it in between our end cap and our tower, as well as in between our two towers. You do want to make sure that you adjust it onto your roof first so that you have the right measurements and you can cut them out and fill in the space in between. We'll take our crossbar and place it across our vehicle, making sure that our tower sits around our raised rail. Can take our strap and secure it, so that it holds our tower in place, then we'll adjust the other side. Now we'll measure out our crossbar spread. We want this to be even on each side. We want it to be at least 27 inches, though I would suggest going by whatever accessory you're going to place on your roof and accommodating your crossbar spread to the accessory. For our crossbar overhang, we're going to measure from the end of the tower to the end of our crossbar. There's no specific measurement for this, we just want it to be even on each side. Now to start, we're going to tighten up our bolt at the very top. This is going to tighten up that adapter that we have on the inside channel and prevent our tower from moving back and forth along our crossbar.Once we have that tight, we can move on to our bolt here at the bottom. We'll start by tightening up our strap so that it connects to our raised rail, then we can do the same thing to the other side. Then we want to go back and forth tightening this down evenly. Now we'll know we have enough torque behind our bolt when we hear our two clicks from our torque tool, and we can now place on our end caps.To place on our end cap, we'll simply line it up and push it into place until it clicks. Now we're ready to load up our accessories and hit the road. That's going to be our completed look at the Yakima Roof-Rack System on our 2015 Mazda CX-5.

Extremely quiet, aerodynamic crossbars attach to Yakima towers to create a stylish roof rack for your vehicle. Rubber strips in T-slots push down to load carriers or accessories - no need to trim. Full-length aluminum bars maximize carrying capacity.Fit our Subaru Forester perfectly. Install was a breeze. For the money I wish they came with the core locks.
Very nice quality towers. Very heavy duty! They have a cool "snap" on / off mechanism for quick removal and installation.
Yakima Baseline with Yakima CBX 18 Cargo Box fitted on my 2012 Toyota Corolla S Sedan 2012.
Instructions were clear and roof rack was easily installed.
Parts arrived as advertised for the model
Car so happy to find the right fit
But super pricy for some plastic.
At first, a little tricky to install, as the kit comes with hardware for a variety of applications (different length/size bolts, etc). But after a quick look at the directions and identifying which bolt to use for my car, install was a breeze. I love this Yakima setup because I can remove the bars/towers and leave the landing pads with a cap. Makes it great for taking the canoe out on weekend trips, but not taking the fuel-economy hit during the weekday commute to work.
You guys provide great products and excellent customer service.
Thanks
These crossbars were easy to install and adjust. Be sure to get all the pieces you need. There is no mention of the Landing Pads necessary to use these.
The 50” jetstream cross bars were perfect for my 2019 Ford Ranger with my ARE cap. They are paired with the Yakima Skyline towers and appropriate landing pads (protip: call etrailer when you order to ensure you have the correct setup;)
These cross bars are SILENT on my cap. Zero wind noise. My daughter and I installed them on a Friday (I do recommend watching etrailer’s installation video in addition to the paper instructions) and left for a 700 mile weekend road trip the next day to pick up a kayak, paddle with friends downstate then drop her off at summer camp.
Even with empty Yakima Jaylows on top, no wind noise. Even with a boat in the Jaylows, no wind noise.
These are the sweetest rack’s I’ve had. With the Skyline towers and landing pads, they are also easy to take off and put on. Click click done.
They look good, too;)
etrailer customer service for the win, too. When I originally ordered, I did not order all the items I needed for installation. When I realized this, I called and they got me squared away.
Yakima SkyLine Towers are well-designed and well-executed. They easily fit into the Yakima Landing Pads and form a tight fit when closed. And they also fit nicely into the Yakima JetStream Crossbars when following the Yakima instruction manual and various YouTube videos. I did run into a snag at first where I found the rubber seal on one SkyLine Tower getting caught on the JetStream Crossbar track, but after that I was careful not to let that happen with the other towers.
I find the appearance of the Yakima SkyLine Towers to match their level of quality in materials and design.
Great company. Fast delivery.
Great product - very good quality. I liked the fact that I could keep the risers mounted on my car, but could remove the cross bars. It took me awhile to install - but I'm not very mechanically inclined.
My experience with etrailer has been excellent. There was going to be a potential delay in one of the products, but their customer service promptly informed me, half the price of some of their competitors so can't really complain. In the end they got the part ahead of schedule and was able to ship in a timely manner. I will definitely keep them in mind for future purchases.
etrailer installation videos were very helpful in selecting the product and first installation, although in practice, minor adjustments to method were required. Now after more than a dozen set ups, mounting the crossbars takes 15 minutes, and taking them off, 10. The system is well made, and when mounted, precise, strong, and reliable. Expensive perhaps compared to alternatives, but well worth the money. Used to carry a 50# sailboard 40 miles to the beach on weekends. ('11 Honda Fit)
One minor shortcoming: rubber sheet glued to base clips where they touch the car body have torn and moved sideways 1/16", but expect will be easily replaced with readily available 1/16" sheet rubber (e.g., shower pan liner) when the time comes.
Used in rain at least once, (sustained 60mph), with no leaks.
I needed crossbars for my new 2018 Mazda CX5, which came with flush side rails. The Yakima crossbars, along with the RidgeLine Towers and the the vehicle specific kit worked great. The installation (10-15 min) is super easy. They look cool, and performed great (I strapped 160-lbs rooftop tent on them!). Removing them is also super easy (10 min tops). Highly recommend.
We purchased the Yakima Skyline Towers roof rack with the Jet Stream crossbars. Took about 2 hours to install on the naked roof of our Flex. I drilled through the roof strip for the mounting bolts and they fit tighter than the factory rails. Very happy with our choice.
Because of the 'rona-induced supply chain interruptions, I was unable to purchase all of my Yakima components from etrailer, but I did get these, and they are typically excellent Yakima components. Well-made, easy to install, good directions, no problems.
Very good product. The Yakama towers and cross bars feel very solid and appears to be high quality. Very easy install. Others have complained about the instructions, but guess I'm a visual person because the pictures all seemed very clear to me and the install was very easy. They do sit higher than I expected. After adding a Rhino Rack cargo basket, we only have about 4-5" clearance below the garage door.
I chose the Yakima roof rack, because It spanned 50 inches, rather than the leading competitor's 47 inches, making it better for tying down 4 ft x 8 ft sheets of building material. It also seemed to be about half the price. It took me about 2 hours to put it all together and mount it on my car. The instructions were all visual and there was one little pic I didn't understand, but the equipment seemed to go together correctly anyway. Now that it's adjusted, it should be fairly easy to remove and replace next time. I did need to put on super tacky gloves to get the covers off. Although it seemed unnecessarily complicated, I would still choose this product again.
Yakima Jetstream cross bars.. nice bars worth the extra money. can be adjusted for pitch/angle of attack to "tune" the air profile.. mine have absolutely no high speed wind noise or whistling.. rubber weather strip underneath further smoothes the bar profile.. quietest roof rack system I have ever owned..
I purchased the Baseline towers with base clip fit kit and jetstream crossbars. They were great quality and the instruction materials included for assembly and installation were great. I was able to assemble and install on my Lexus CT 200 in about an hour. It looks nice too!
These really look so much better then the factory racks! Easy to install. Easy to order! Great product!
I got my new landing pads the day they said it would arrive. The pads were in their original yakima packaging, properly packed and overboxed. I work for a logistics company so I know the importance of getting product to a customer on time and exceeding their expectations. Very well done etrailer.com! The landing pads is just part of what I needed, and with the discount code included for my next purchase, I will be back. Thanks again.
Simple installation to vehicle with supplied hardware and tools. Once these bases are installed to the vehicle, it is simple for a single person to install and remove crossbars and towers in just a couple of minutes.
Yakima Roof Rack for BMWI ordered a yakima roof rack for my BMW during the mad rush of Christmas shopping and have received everything need for the assembly in a very short amount of time. I have even received follow up emails telling me the status of the shipping as well as a courtesy email. I also found that etrailer.com is also much cheaper than other retail stores such as REI. I highly recommend using etrailer.com!
The crossbars are light and very strong. They fit perfectly and installed easily.
