Colin: Hey, everyone. It's Colin here at etrailer.com. Today, we have a 2019 Ford F-150, and we're going to do a test fit of the Thule Wingbar Evo roof rack system. Now, we have the black color on top of our F-150 right now, but it are also available in silver. You can find that here at etrailer.com.This is designed to mount to your naked roof of the F-150, and it's just a nice accessory for your truck. It's going to allow you to get your favorite accessories on your roof, whether you've got a kayak carrier, a cargo box, or even a bike rack. Now, our roof rack's going to be comprised of a couple different parts. Up top, we're going to have our 60 inch long Evo Wingbars, and these Wingbars do have a nice aerodynamic shape to them.
It's going to help cut down on wind noise and drag when you compare it to your standard square or round bar roof rack system. We're also going to have a T slot up top right here so you can utilize T track accessories while you're using this roof rack. How you utilize that T track is you just flip open the end cap. Now you have access into that T track. Rather than having to pull out the rubber strip and cut it to length for your accessory, you just simply slid it into the two strips right there. When you've got it in there, just tighten it down and the close your end cap. Now, kind of the middle man of our roof rack system is going to be the Evo clamp feet.
Now, these are going to be for naked roofs. We'll pull off the end cap so you can see what's inside. It's basically going to be holding our fit kit and it's going to be how we tighten down our cross bars to our roof.Below here, we're going to see this thick rubber pad and this rubber coated hook. That's going to be our fit kit, which is specifically designed for our F-150. The rubber coating on the hook and the thick rubber pad aren't going to harm or scratch the finish of your paint.
Then once they're connected to the foot, there's a bolt inside we tighten down so it's secure on our roof. I'll put this end cap back on. You're also going to see that we have these plastic pop locks which we can replace with Thule lock cores, which are sold separately here at etrailer.com. That'll just give a more secure look to your roof rack. It's going to make sure no one can remove it without that key. Now, I want to go over a few measurements for you guys.
First, we're going to measure from the top of our roof to the bottom of our Wingbar, which is going to be two and a quarter inches. That's more than enough space to be able to get your clamp on accessories under the crossbar without harming the finish of your roof. Now, it's also enough space that if you have a sunroof on our F-150, you're going to be able to open that up without any interference. Now, from the top of our roof to the top of our Wingbar, it's going to be three and a half inches, which that's relevant because you want to make sure for any low clearance situations, you know that you've added that much to your rooftop. Now, we're also going to have a 220 pound weight capacity for our roof rack system, which is a step up from their old load bar system. It's going to be more than enough weight to be able to get your favorite accessories on top whether you got a cargo box or a bike rack and get that stuff loaded up.Now we'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. There is a little bit of pre assembly you have to do before you get it on your roof. Now, we already have the front crossbar installed. The second one is going to assemble and install the exact same way. We're going to flip our 60 inch Wingbar over. What we're going to do is grab is Evo foot. We're going to take the rubber pad from our fit kit and clamp it on. You can see kind of how that bracket, that plastic bracket, is shaped just like that, so we're going to put that on. Now, you're just going to have to push down, get it to clamp on to that plastic bracket. Just make sure it's tight all the way around. Try to give it a couple pulls on each side. It's on there. Now, we're going to grab the rubber coated hook from our fit kit and we're going to push up until you hear a click, then it's going to be locked in place. Right there. Tug on it a little bit, make sure it's tight. Now, we're going to come to the side of our Wingbar, pull off the end cap. You're going to have to push down, get that end up off like so. We already have our scale set to the number specified in our instructions. There's going to be a number system right here, going down to a half. Once you get it set to there, we're going to push in on the two silver buttons on the inside. It's going to unlock the clamp up top. Once you've pushed down, it's going to unlock, and we can feed it through the channel right here. We're going to go forward until it touches the end of that scale. Just go, then once we have it touching, just let go of those buttons and it's going to be locked in place. Now, we'll throw our end cap on, and now we can put it on our roof. Now we're going to measure from the front of our front Wingbar to the front of our rear Wingbar. Just hold our tape up there. This measurement you can find in your instructions. I'm going to have to scoot it this way a bit. Here we go. Just make sure you measure on both sides, and it doesn't hurt to go in and double check and make sure that it's correct before you tighten down. Now we're going to begin tightening down our roof rack with our included tool. We're going to start on this side. We're only going to do a couple rotations at first, and then we're going to switch sides and do the same amount of rotations. We do that to make sure you can get an even pull on both sides. There's going to be a bolt on the inside right there. I'm just going to insert our tool and then, like I said, just give it a few rotations. Now, go to the other side and continue to go back and forth until it is fully tightened down. Now, once you hear those audible clicks right there, you know that it is torqued down to Thule's specifications. We've already done the other side as well, so now we know our roof rack is secure. I'm just going to put the end caps on both sides. I'm going to close our doors. Now, it's not a bad idea to go ahead and just give it a quick shake test. Just grab both sides and give it a shake. You see that the whole vehicle is moving, so we're good to hit the road.Thank you all for watching. That's going to do it for our test fit of the Thule Wingbar Evo roof rack system on our 2019 Ford F-150.

SquareBar Evo crossbars attach to Thule feet to create a durable, reliable roof rack for your vehicle. Bars are constructed of galvanized steel with a polymer coating that provides grip for your cargo. Accommodate accessories that clamp around bars.I've had the roof rack for a year now and we only use it sporadically in the winter to put the ski box ontop of the car but it works great. Very easy to install and remove and very sturdy. Previously I had the kind that bolted into the roof of my SUV and had a terrible experience with that (we lost the rack and kayaks on the freeway and it tore holes in my roof). The clamp style is the only kind we'll get from now on because they are much sturdier and no risk of losing them. Definitely recommend them.
While the instructions were a bit difficult to follow the install videos from etrailer are a blessing to figure out what to expect even if not exact to the letter. Overall product is excellent, use it to haul kayaks and a 18 ft aluminum canoe to and from locations. Would recommend
.
Good quality and durable; seem made from strong materials.
I just got my packages and had it installed within the hour very satisfied
No problems installing. The rack is doing fine.
Product was right fit for my vehicle and installed perfectly. Etrailer was knowledgeable and got the goods to me quickly. Enjoyed working with them and will again.

Easy install. Seem to be working great. Installation was easy. No drilling or any modifications to the truck.
I used these for a 3K trip to Cabo San Lucas from Northern California. We even traveled over a 100 mile stretch of the Baja 1000 off road course with our F-250 Super Duty loaded to the hilt with gear.
On top of our Cab. Truly amazing products from Thule & delivered on time from etrailer
I've owned this roof rack for a year now, and it has served my purposes (carrying my kayak around on my truck) quite well. It was fairly easy to assemble, largely because the entire instruction guide was in pictures.
I have had to retighten the rack a couple of times since putting it on the roof, so I tie the kayak down to the front and back of the truck as well as to the roof rack. I suspect the ocean kayak puts a bit of lift on the roof rack resulting in the loosening.
Easy to install, fit and finish are top notch.
Worked perfectly on my 2020 GMC Sierra. Looks and works great.
I have almost always had roof rails on my vehicles. My F150 had no rails and I was nervous about clamp style rack holders given what I tend to carry on top. These have been great and I am positive I have overloaded them numerous times.
I went with this Rola Vortex Cargo Rack with extension for its size and multiple tie down points. I Paired it with the Thule 5 inch rapid gutter feet with square bars because:
To remove the freedom panels.
Square bars are stronger than Aero type bars.
Adjustability of fitment as the roof of the Jeep narrows toward the rear.
When loaded for camping, I want to maintain rearward vision.
Finally, the system met my load requirements. I had weighed the gear that will go onto the rack. And I am at OME specs.
I did not want to use the gutter of the freedom panels to carry weight. Since the panels are removable, it seemed to be a potential weak point structurally.
NOTES:
Because this Rola rack comes in sections, I do not recommend it for “Overlanding”.
And because it comes in sections, some weather proofing is needed. I coated the cargo rack guides with an anti seize grease. The bolts of the cargo clamps should be weather proofed as well.
Over time, the screws will need to be replaced. They will rust.
CONCLUSION
Overall I am happy with this set up. Should work well for general camping and hold up to the easier off road trails. If your plans are to Overland for weeks at a time in all weather conditions on moderate to difficult trails having off camber conditions, then this rack may be problematic over time. And may cause damage to the roof top.
Beware of purchases from Etrailer...they offer no returns on opened products. So might say well you could just use and return it...true, but in this case the wind noise is horrific on my Jeep Wrangler and made a two hour ride nearly unbearable. The Thule cross bars are way too loud. They offer no aerodynamics whatsoever.
Great quality products! Easy installation with properly guided instructions. One of the best tracking information, from ordering to delivery. Would strongly recommend etrailer to anyone looking for roof or hitch bike racks.
Seamless ordering and delivery. Video instructions very helpful
I wished locks were included. The packaging was damage, the product was not. It took just one hour to install from box to roof.
It feels very sturdy. I received it promptly.
Two things.
This part let me re-use my existing evo bars and move my setup from my Dodge Ram to my Ford F-150. Thule has done an excellent job designing these parts and the change was very simple.
E-trailer has been a go to for me to buy parts like this in the past and will continue to be a go to for me because the site is well designed, it’s easy to discover the correct parts I need and most importantly they have a responsive staff for any support.
Worked Perfect & Secured a very heavy load in extreme weather & off road conditions
One of the Evo Clamps is missing the plastic plate where the rubber spacer attaches. Please send a new plate or new clamp so I can finish my install. See attached photos to see the difference.
Easy to install with the anchors and crossbars, and still holding up great a year later.
Excellent system
Great product from Thule. Fit my 2022 Ford Ranger perfectly and is very strong and secure when installed. Excellent customer service from trailer and extremely fast shipping.
