Note: Tie-down straps must be chosen according to their safe working load limit (WLL). The weight of the secured cargo must not exceed the combined WLL of the straps being used. For example, if you are using straps with a WLL of 500 lbs each to tie down a load weighing 1,000 lbs, then you need at least 2 straps to safely secure that load. It is recommended that you always use straps in pairs.

Video Transcript for ProGrip Ratchet Tie-Down Straps Review

Randy: Hey guys, it's Randy here at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to be taking a look at a pair of ratchet straps from ProGrip. Now, the strap itself is going to be an inch and a quarter wide. It's going to be a total of 12 foot long. Now, overall this is kind of doubled up here, but the strap material itself feels really nice, feels very sturdy. It's not as thick as the really heavy duty three, four inch thick ratchet straps, but it's definitely a thicker, more sturdy material than what we see out of the light duty straps. With that being said, they're going to offer 1,000 pound safe working load limit and a 3,000 pound break strength.

You want to use that working load limit as your maximum, though. You don't want to exceed that. Now, the handle mechanism really sets this strap apart from a lot of them that we see. You can see it's got a textured, almost like a pistol grip there. It allows you to generate a lot of torque on here, get plenty of force getting everything nice and secure. I like the release lever here also.

Unlike some of the ones that are just a thin piece of metal, it actually has a spot for your thumb to rest, allows you to get good effort or good force put into that. Of course, when we close that strap all the way down, that clicks into place there and that prevents that from accidentally coming open. Now, where it attaches, you're going to have double J-hooks. These are rubber coated, so whatever surface you're attaching to, really not going to have to worry about damage. I like the double J-hook style because essentially you've got both these pieces that come up and it's going to make a flat point there. All the pressure that we're putting on our strap, it's spread out over that entire area.

With an S-hook, this is generally rounded and that strap will kind of bunch up.Now, all in all in my opinion and these are really good straps. I like the way they feel. I like the way they work. Think they're going to give you years of good service. With that grip where we can get a little bit of extra pressure and a 1,000 pound safe working load limit, these should help us secure down a lot of stuff and get plenty of force on those to hold them in place.I would say one area that you might run into an issue with using this strap, that's going to be here at our ratchet handle and really at the connection point.

From the back of the ratchet where it attaches to the top of our hook, we've only got about five inches here, four or five inches you can see. That keeps our handle in pretty close proximity to our connection point. Now, with this stake pocket, you see that gives us the opportunity for it to hit there before we get it fully locked in. In other applications, it might not matter so much. Now, to get your strap installed, I like to have them in two pieces. It just seems to be easier. You can leave them connected together. You don't have to separate them each time. That's going to be up to you. But, I always like to make sure I've got that strap straight. You can see it comes in on a straight line. It's going to come down in a straight line. That makes it easier to use our ratchet. We'll go to the tag end. We want our ratchet open. We're going to slide this in from the back side right through that center pivot barrel, and then we just want to loop that right back out the way we brought it in. That's going to allow us to slide that. Take out the slack, get it hooked on. As you can see, just like most ratchet straps, this sides already come unhooked, so get that hooked back on. Take out the rest of that slack, and this is where that large handle comes in to play. Very easy to grab ahold of, get a lot of good grip there, be able to get plenty of pressure put on the strap, and really you can just use very minimal pressure to do it.At that point, we'll close that ratchet handle all the way down. That'll prevent it from accidentally opening. We'll just secure off our excess here. Now, with this one secure, we need to head to the other side and put another one on. We always recommend using straps in twos. So, if one happens to fail, we have another one holding it in place. So, two packs. That's not a big deal. With the break strength these have, whether it's an ATV, you're using two on there, or even with a UTV, really only going to require two to be nice and secure and ready to head down the road.

Awesome straps. Large and easy to use handles. Much better than those cheap small handles at the local hardware store. Used them to help secure a truck camper while transporting it for my Dad. He kept the straps!

This is a very light weight and thin strap. It has a very fancy and nice handle, but a lousy paper thin strap.
