Whereas belt-driven fans use up power from the engine to turn, electric fans do not, thus removing any unnecessary load and increasing both fuel economy and horsepower. In addition, you do not have to worry about an electric fan's slowing down at low RPM, as many belt-driven fans do, so you are guaranteed sufficient airflow regardless of the vehicle speed.

Before purchasing an electric fan, be sure to determine the CFM (cubic feet per minute) requirements for your engine. And remember, engines that have been modified or vehicles often used for towing may require additional CFM. There is no limit to the number of fans you can install, as long they all fit appropriately and are mounted on the same side of your radiator so that they do not cancel each other out.

Two types of turn-on sources are available for this fan. The Derale Lighted On/Off Switch for Electric Fans (D16740) allows for manual control of your fan so that you can choose when to turn it on and off. Thermostatic controls, on the other hand, send a signal to the fan, directing it to shut off when fluid temperatures reach an appropriate level, thus saving power. Once the temperature climbs again and additional cooling is needed, the fan is automatically turned back on. Thermostat switches can be single-stage with pre-set temperatures - D16735, D16738, D16739, D16720 and D16721 - or adjustable - D16778 and D16779.

Video Transcript for Derale Radiator Fans - Electric Fans - D16510 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the Derale 10 inch Tornado Electric Fan with the toggle switch. This 10 inch reversible tornado fan will improve your gas mileage, boost your overall performance by maintaining proper air flow to your vehicle's radiator. This fan can be mounted on either side of the radiator as either a pusher or a puller with no loss of air flow. It comes from the factory all set up as a puller application but if you need to change it to a pusher application, what you need to do is unbolt this, remove the fan, flip it over, reinstall it on to the motor shaft and you're ready to go. If you notice this fan has a nice ultra low profile design for tight applications. It does use an ultra quiet patented skew blade design as you can see. It has the six skew blades on it.

This part will come with everything shown here on the table. It includes the electric fan assembly, the fan mounting kit, the lighted toggle switch right here with the hardware to install it, 20 amp fuse with the installation hardware and a nice set of detailed instruction that will show you how to install it on to your vehicle. A few specs on this fan, the maximum cubit feet per minute it moves is 650. Power draws a low 5.3 amps and I want to give you some dimensions on it. The width from this edge to this edge is going to be right at 11 1/4 inches. The heighth from the bottom to the very top is going to be right at 10 5/8 inches and then the depth of the fan from the front to the very back at the farthest point is going to be right at 2 1/2 inches deep.

The fan itself is a 10 inch diameter fan and the depth of just the fan is 1 1/2 inches deep. That should do it for the review on the Derale 10 inch Tornado Electric Fan with the toggle switch.

  • Recommendation for Adding an Electric Fan to 2007 GMC Sierra That I Can Manually Control
I recommend the Derale 10 Inch Tornado Electric Fan, # D16510, which includes a toggle control switch to give you the ability to control the fan manually. Since you are looking to control this fan manually, you will not be running the wiring to the PCM. I have attached the installation instructions which show how to wire the fan with the switch. This fan draws 5.3 amps and your alternator should have no problem handling this. Just a reminder, you will want to take a quick measurement...
