AJ: What's up everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're going to be checking out something you might not think about it on your RV too much until you look down and you see it. We're going to be looking at these Lippert door thresholds. Where you can see the new ones we already have installed. Make it look way better than the old one. And we're going to show you how to uninstall the old one, and get the new one installed.So there's about eight different sizes from Lippert that you can get of the door thresholds, and they are the following, 24 inches, 25 inches, 26 inches and 28 inches.

29 inches, 30 inches, 30 and five eighths inches, 36 inches in length of a doorframe. If you take a closer look at it, you can see the threshold is pretty much the same thing that you already have in your house. It just transitions from the floor to the outside step here, making it not such a rough cutoff. You got the groove in it, it kind of bends. So you kind of ease your way up.

It's just a transition from here to here.Here's the old one we replaced. It's seen better days and it's kind of an eyesore. As I walk in and out on the steps, I look at it, and it just bothers me. So that's what this replacement part is all about. You can get a new one pretty easily, and we'll get this removed.

Now, originally this one looks like it's a little bit bigger than our doorframe so it had to be modified. When I set it down, you can get one that's slightly bigger, but then you're going to have to cut this tab out here so it fits up and in the door. The one we got installed, we replaced it with, is 24 inches long. So it's going to fit inside the door jams so there's not going to be any cutting needed.The threshold doesn't come with its own hardware. You're going to have to use either the pre-existing one you have that you're going to replace, or you'll just have to get new hardware.

If you're doing that, I suggest getting one that's maybe a little flatter than the screws we have here. These are just the ones that we're in the old one so I'm replacing it that way and until I can get better hardware down the line. But it's even in the small curvature of the threshold here that's in the center, so it doesn't stick up. I've walked in and out and tested it. I've tried to kick it with my foot just to see if it tripped me up at all, with no problems at all.The old thresholds are made out of aluminum so you know it's going to last. You don't have to worry about coming in with wet feet and ruining it, or deteriorating or corroding, or anything like that. It's not going to be a problem. Now, let's check out how we got it installed.We've got to remove the old one. It looks like we have three screws here. Just going to back those out and remove the threshold.Now, this one came up pretty easy. If it gets stuck and doesn't want to come up, I suggest using a screwdriver. We have a trim panel tool here. It's what I used to jam it under there and kind of pop it up or pry it off there. But once you get that off there, since there are different sizes, it's still a little work on this door threshold. You can see that this one is a little bit longer and it was actually modified. So they cut around the door jam and picked a bigger threshold. So they had to modify it. We have a slightly smaller one that's going to fit without having to modify it. The only thing we're going to have to do is line up where the holes are. I don't want to drill extra holes in the rig here.I've got the old one on top of the new one. You're going to take one of the screws and mark in the holes so I know where to drill through when we lift it back up. I want those lines, or excuse me, I want those holes to line up so I don't have to make any new ones. I did it on on all three of them. I'll remove the old one. You can see we've got the marks. Now we're going to start drilling in the places we marked.Now we're going to run our center screw down to hold it in place to help us draw the next two holes.It really is that easy. We've got the old one removed, replaced it with the new one. Looks way better, it's not an eyesore. Not going to be walking up your steps seeing the old grungy one and shake your head at it. You've got this nice one installed, and you're good to go. That does it for our look at the door thresholds. I hope this helped..
