Hey guys, it's Randy here at Etrailer.com. Today we're going to be taking a look at a lunette ring from Buyers. This is a really heavy duty lunette ring, three inch inside diameter here, six and a quarter inch overall. It's going to give us a 60,000 pound capacity. This is kind of in the middle range of lunette rings. They start about 42,000 and go up to 90,000 pounds.

Basically what we're looking for here are those heavy duty applications. We're pulling excavators. We're pulling trailers behind big dump trucks. Even military use these for a lot of connections. Certainly with a big trailer, it's easier than using a ball of some type.

Generally they're not even going to get up to that high of a capacity. But it's going to give us a good solution for that problem.These are designed to work with pintle hooks. So we'll have a hook that comes in and grabs it with a capture plate on top. Now the bottom of our hook rubs and rubs and rubs back and forth on that pintle, every time we take off, slow down, or make a turn. So these tend to wear out, and that's why we're replacing this one.

Let's take a look at the one that we removed so you it'll give you an idea of what we're talking about there.There you can see the old one and you can see how it's really just been wore out over the years of that pintle rubbing back and forth on it. And really what that does is it reduces your capacity. So our customer's requested that we replace this on her trailer, that way she'd get right back up to the capacity that she wants. This is a forged lunette ring, so it's all one piece. We don't have to worry about any welds or anything like that to fatigue.

Now if corrosion's an issue in your area, you can also go with the zinc plated model of this same lunette ring.Now to begin your installation, of course, you want to check out your old hardware, get the old one taken off. We're using three quarter inch, grade eight as a minimum for bolts. If you need to replace them, do that. Our hardware looks like it's in good shape. So we're just going to bring our ring up here, get it placed back in the appropriate position. I'll generally just put one on to start with. Place on my lock washer and my nut on the backside there. That'll help hold it in place while we get the rest of it in place here. Now with everything started, we'll get it snugged up. Once it's snug, can grab our torque wrench and get it all torqued down.And with everything torqued down properly, as you can see, we're set, we're back, we're ready to go. Everything's freshened up right back up to that capacity we're looking for. I think this would be an excellent solution if you need a replacement..
