Video Transcript for Yakima OutPost HD Overland Truck Bed Rack Installation - 2019 Toyota Tundra

Collin: Hey guys, it's Collin here at etrailer and today we have a 2019 Toyota Tundra. So we want to go ahead and do a test fit of the Yakima OutPost HD Truck Bed Rack. This is a mid-height truck bed rack. It's available in two different kits. Now, like I said, this is a fixed mid-height truck bed rack, so it cannot adjust up and down. It does sit a little bit lower than a lot of other ladder racks out there. You can see that we are at about the halfway point of our cab, maybe a little bit higher, so any super long loads we want to carry, probably not going to be the most ideal situation.

If you're looking for something like that, Yakima does make an adjustable height ladder rack where you can raise it up to get it over the cab. That's called the Yakima OverHaul HD. You can check that out here at etrailer. But if you're just a person who wants to just take full advantage of your truck bed space, get a lot of camping gear loaded up, whether it's the Yakima SkyRise tent, maybe some sidebars and get some T slot accessories mounted like a jerrycan holder or recovery track mount. This is going to be a great option for you. You'll be able to take all that stuff off road and it'll handle it very well. Now what's nice about this truck bed rack is that it comes with the kit to be able to mount this into your Tundra's factory rails right here so you don't have to worry about removing them.

Normally the OutPost comes with a set of C clamps that you will get in your kit. You won't need them, though. They usually come up underneath and try to clamp onto the bed side rail. However, because we've got that track system, it's not going to work out that way, so they include this kit to be able to mount it into the rails on your Tundra. It's very stable as well.

You're not losing any of that durability. Now the OutPost does have a 500 pound regular driving weight limit, meaning just driving down the highway or some other flat roads. If you're planning on going off roading, you do want to make sure you lower it a little bit, and it's going to have a 300 pound off road weight limit. And that's just because going around all those bumps and tight corners and stuff. You want to lower the weight capacity a little bit to make sure it can handle it.Now the entire rack has a really durable aluminum construction. It has a nice black powder coat finish as well, so it's going to be very durable, rust-proof, and it's going to look great on our Tundra.

We also have a nice rubber strip up top on our HD bar. What we can do is remove it and cut it to length for whatever T slot accessory we might want to use. And having this rubber strip is also going to help cut down on that wind noise and drag while we're traveling. We do have a nice elliptical shape to our HD bar, so that is also going to help cut down on wind noise and drag. And then right here we have this nice heavy duty tie down point. We can use that to get our cargo secured with ropes, bungee cords, anything that you might have. But you could also use it to get any carabiners or just stuff like that stored on here while you're hanging out.The entire rack has a really durable aluminum construction. It's also got a nice black powder coat finish that's going to help it resist rust and corrosion. It's also going to look really good on our Tundra. Now up top we have this nice rubber strip on our HD bar. What we can do is remove it, cut it to length for our T slot accessory that we might want to use and then re insert it. Having this rubber strip up top does help cut down on that wind noise and drag, especially when you combine that with the fact it's got a nice elliptical shape to it so that wind can cut through it and be as quiet as possible. And then over here we got this really nice heavy duty tie down point. We can use that to get our cargo secured or just to store stuff on.On the inside of each upright, we're also going to have another tie down point we can use to get our cargo secure with a bottle opener underneath it, which is a trademark from Yakima. Now one of my favorite features about the OutPost is that we can remove it from these base pads right here very easily in case we got to carry a taller load that can't fit underneath our truck rack. So what we'll do first is take the lock off. This is a nice theft deterrence so no one could just come up and loosen the bolts and remove your rack. Once we do that, we'll grab the included tool and then just begin to loosen it like so. We'll do this for both sides. You can see how this clamp's coming off that's holding our rack in place. We'll get the other side, too.Once you've got both sides loosened, it's just as easy to get it up off of the plates and then we can go set it in our garage and then use our truck for other things as well. And then you can leave the pads installed while you're using your truck. It only sits in about an inch and a half to the inside of our truck bed so it doesn't take up a ton of space. And it definitely makes the job of taking our ladder rack off a lot easier.I've gone ahead and thrown those 68 inch crossbars on for you guys so you can see what they look like, determine which one you think's going to best suit your needs. With the 78-inchers, if you have a ton of stuff that you want to put on the top and you need all the spacing and get, I'd recommend going with those. If you don't have a ton of stuff to put up here and you're more concerned with the space that this rack is going to take up. Maybe you park in a tight parking spot and you already have to fold your side mirrors in, and the 68 inch crossbars might be your best bet.Really, whichever length crossbar you get, they're both going to do a great job and it's going to look good on your Tundra. And I think you're going to be really happy with it. Well, thank you all for watching, but that's going to do it for our test fit of the Yakima OutPost HD Truck Bed Rack on our 2019 Toyota Tundra.

I think the bottle opener feature advertised should work! I emailed about that shortly after installing the product, even sending photos, and no one from your company every reached back out to me to resolve the issue.

by:

Received complete rack with NO parts missing. The Outpost HD rack fit my ‘17 Tacoma great with no installation issues.

by:

Very strong and safe for my intended ap plication.

by:

Very sturdy, and setup was a breeze with all of the required tools included.

by:

Rack system works very good. Easy to take off and on my F150. Wish it was more adjustable to lower the system a few inches. Also because of the bed formation cannot place anywhere on the bed. Overall it is stable and rides well

by:

The products durability is great. Find the right height for my truck was more challenging. I wish I had not gotten this particular product. Doesn’t go above my truck bed cab.

Thanks etrailer for the help in getting this! Couldn't find the Tonneau adapter in stock anywhere. Thankfully etrailer let me place an order and they tracked down the part for me. GREAT communication by the etrailer customer support team keeping me updated on the status of this order. It took a while due to delays from Yakima, but it's now installed and I'm very happy.
