Today we're gonna take a look at the CURT Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit for the Dodge Ram trucks, and this has the carbide finish base rails on it. Now, this is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 2002 to 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 trucks, excluding the extended Crew Cab models. And since this is a custom fit part, I do like to recommend for you to go to our website, use the fit guide, put in your year and model of vehicle, and it'll show if this will work for your application.
Now, this kit here is a complete installation kit that allows you to install a fifth wheel to your truck bed. It does include everything shown here on the table. It include these custom fit mounting brackets, includes the base rails, and then all the hardware you need to install it. Even comes with a nice set of instructions that'll describe how it all goes together. Now, these mounting brackets, I want to zoom in from the side to show you, these mounting brackets are designed to mount beneath your truck bed.
They do provide the attachment points for your fifth wheel rails. They will provide a custom fit, because they're mounting to existing holes already in your vehicle's frame, so it eliminates the need for drilling, and it'll cut the installation time in half when compared with the universal bracket kits. Now, the base rails right up here. These base rails will sit in your truck bed and then they allow the installation of the fifth wheel trailer hitch to your vehicle. The rails are visible in your truck bed.
Now, this set here has the carbide finish to them, which is sort of a matte black finish, and that's to match your CURT fifth wheel hitch. The black powder coat finish on these do resist corrosion. And this kit is designed to work with the BMW, the CURT, the Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch Reese, and even the Husky above bed fifth wheel trailer hitches. Includes everything you need for installation.The directions on this item are horrible. I finally figured it out and was able to install it onto my Ram 1500, but only after spending hours trying to make everything fit right. If you're looking for a hitch setup to pull a trailer long distances, I would advise you to look at other options. This will work for my short trips with my half-ton pickup, but I would not want to pull anything more than 50 miles with this setup.
No issues. Tough installation as my truck has many interference brackets that made getting the nuts and bolts into place. No other issues to to report.
