Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today I'm gonna take a look at this CURT semi-custom fifth wheel installation kit with the carbide black base rails for the Dodge Ram 1500 trucks. Now this part will fit the 2009 to 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 trucks, fits the 2010 to 2018 Ram 1500 trucks with the coil springs excluding the limited models, and this will also fit the 2019 and newer Ram 1500 Classic trucks with the coil springs. Now because it fits so many different vehicles, I do recommend for you to go to our website, use the fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and it'll show if this will work for your application. Now this kit here is a complete installation kit that allow you to install a fifth wheel to your truck bed. The kit will include everything shown here on the table.
It includes the semi-custom fit mounting brackets, it includes the base rails, includes all the hardware you need for installation, and a nice set of detailed instructions that'll describe how it all goes together. Now we mentioned these mounting brackets. These are semi-custom fit mounting brackets. They're designed to mount beneath your truck bed and they provide the attachment points for these fifth wheel base rails. If you notice these mounting brackets have a black powder coat finish on them to resist corrosion, and they are semi-custom brackets which are required if you're not using a custom mounting bracket kit.
They'll provide a semi-custom fit, which will cut down on installation time when compared with the universal bracket kits that are out there. Drilling is required. Now the base rails, which are this one and this one, these base rails will sit in your truck bed and they allow the installation of the fifth wheel trailer hitch to your vehicle. These rails will be visible in your truck bed. These have a carbide black finish to them, almost like a mat black finish, and that's to match the color of your fifth wheel hitch.
Now these rails are industry standard rails. They are compatible with B&W, CURT Draw-Tite Reese, and Husky above bed fifth wheel trailer hitches. But that should do it for the review on this CURT semi-custom fifth wheel installation kit with the carbide black base rails for the Dodge Ram 1500 trucks.

I have a 2018 Ram 1500. Everything worked and fit as should. Holes and Bracket mounts all lined up. Directions were clear on where to drill holes in bed and bed rails. Install took about 6 hours. Had to remove rear tires, wheel well shield and spare tire to access everything. Also there is some notching involved to get at some bolts. I would recommend this product.

This works great once installed, however I will warn anyone with a Ram with air springs, this will not work without modification, and definitely not a bolt on solution. This took close to 6 hours to install (instructions say 90 min), mainly due do the front brackets having to be mounted right where the air spring sensors are mounted. This required us to have to weld the brackets to the frame and widen the holes in the brackets to be able to mount the sensors in the same place. I would recommend a different product if you have air springs.
The instructions, while not the best, were still pretty straight forward but make sure you closely follow where to put the holes in the truck bed, which can only be seen in the diagram.

2017 Dodge Ram Pickup
Installed on a 2017 Ram 1500 Sport Quad cab for pulling my small fifth wheel camper. Installation instructions were straightforward for a first time installer. Everything came in the package that was required. Installation was somewhat challenging. Removal of the fuel tank was required to gain enough access on one of the attachment points. Not a huge deal, but working on the ground it was not ideal. The biggest thing to note is that you WILL have to cut out parts of the bed sill to install three of the forward bolts and hardware. Unfortunately there is no way around this due to dimensional requirements for placement of the rails. A small grinder or cutting torch is required to complete the job. Again, completing the install on a lift is highly preferred, but I did mine by jacking up the rear of the truck and working underneath. Once installed, it is very secure and I've had absolutely no problems with it. It's a nice clean look and should last for the rest of the use of the truck. If you are a decent backyard mechanic and can follow instructions (both on paper and YouTube/videos) you should be able to accomplish this.

2012 Dodge Ram Pickup
I have no mechanical ability, and I have never seen or used a 5th wheel hitch until a week ago when I impulsively bought my wife a 5th wheel camper for her birthday. I had no idea what I needed to make things work. After a little research on the website I learned that this semi custom kit was exactly what I needed (rails and frame mounting brackets) and that it would fit my truck perfectly. The parts arrived at my house a lot quicker than I expected, and i was really nervous about starting this job because i knew it involved drilling holes in my truck bed and in the frame of my truck. I started the install with my 12 year old daughter, and we managed to get the entire job done in about 6 hours. We actually found a YouTube video that walked us through the entire install with no problems. We did the entire job with nothing but a few common tools (wrenches, tape measure, screwdriver) and a battery powered drill. If you need an inexpensive and easy to install system to haul a 5th wheel with a 1/2 Ram pickup, then this is for you!!!

Needed the 41/2" bolts and space described, however not included in Kit. According to CM manufacturing it is not part of the bolt kit for my truck?? but was needed to fasten throught the bed support frame.
Mike from E-Trailer was very helpfull, but the manufacturer needs to review their product.

2017 Ram 1500
Great product. Installation time is misleading on the paper but would recommend if you have the proper tools and time. Had to remove gas tank which was the hardest part of the installation. The quality of the product is great and will buy again when needed in the future
