Choosing the right 5th-Wheel Trailer Hitch for your 2014 Ram 1500 will depend first on the weight of the trailer you plan on towing. You will want to make sure the truck and hitch have weight capacities that exceed the trailer's loaded weight.

Since your Ram 1500 has a short 5-1/2 foot bed, the safest way to tow a trailer is to use a stationary 5th-wheel hitch and replace the pin box on the trailer with a Sidewinder, if it does not have one already. The Sidewinder will be required to add clearance for making tight turns.

For a 5th-Wheel Hitch that will be easier to remove, I recommend the Curt E16 # C16115 along with the Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit # C16444-204. This hitch weighs around 94 pounds, making it the lightest 16K hitch that we currently have available for your Ram 1500. This hitch also has a nice feature that allows you to remove the hitch head and legs separately by simply pulling the clips and pins out. This makes it very easy for one person to remove the hitch from your truck bed. The Curt Hitch has a 16,000 pound towing weight capacity and a vertical load limit of 4,000 pounds.

I have also attached a link that will take you to our available selection of 5th-wheel hitches confirmed to fit your truck.

Sidewinders are designed to replace specific pin boxes, so you will need to know what the number of your pin box is on the trailer to choose the correct Sidewinder. There should be a sticker with this information or the numbers may be stamped on the pin box itself. Once you have this information, you can look at the helpful article I have attached that includes a chart that shows the correct Sidewinder number to get based on the existing pin box on your trailer.

Lastly, I recommend adding a 5th-Wheel Wiring Harness like the Curt # C56000. Once installed, this will provide a 7-way connector in the bed of your truck for easy hookup with your trailer.

If your trailer has a Lippert 1621 pin box, then I recommend using the Reese Sidewinder 5th Wheel King Pin with Rotating Turret # RP85FR. This will give you a weight capacity of 20,000 pounds.
