Video Transcript for Performance Tool Wiring - Tools for Wiring - PTW2012 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Performance Tool, 60 watt, soldering gun kit. This is going to be great for automotive, marine, home, and office applications. It does feature a built in spotlight, that's going to illuminate the work area, making it easier to see exactly what you're doing and where you're working. The gun does offer instant heat. It's going to be ready to use in just a few seconds. The grip area has like a pistol grip design.

Finger indention's there, and then you got the trigger right here, which is going to apply the heat to the tips. Really nice design, easy hold, grip area here on the back, little bit textured service for easy grip. The power cord, that's going to measure about 57 to 58 inches long. Then you'll see some other components that it comes with. It's going to come with a different styled tip, so the tip that's on the gun right now is completely rounded. This tip has flat sides on each side of the tip, so, 2 different tips are included with this kit.

You're also going to extra soldering wire and soldering paste, as well as detailed instructions on using the unit, so it's going to come with your owner's manual, and it goes through cleaning and maintenance tips in there as well. That's going to do it for today's look at the Performance Tool, 60 watt, soldering gun kit.

  • Which is Preferred Connection for SMI CoachLink 900 Wireless Transmitter
The SMI CoachLink 900 Wireless Transmitter and Receiver Braking Indicator Set # SM99945 that you mentioned comes with a couple butt end connectors and a couple quick splices for tapping into a circuit. I personally don't care for quick splices as the few times I've tried to use them I either ended up cutting the circuit I was trying to tap into or didn't press the blade hard enough to get the circuits to contact. The best connection would be to solder it. For that we have the part # FL0803490...

  • Connecting Trailer Brake Output Circuit to Each Brake Magnet
Lets begin with the two leads that exit each brake magnet. One lead from each magnet needs to ground to the trailer frame. The brake magnets carry no polarity, so it does not matter which lead is grounded, and which lead is connected to the brake output circuit. Unfortunately, we do not offer a connector such as you describe. There are quick splice connectors available, but for a lasting, trouble-free connection I recommend soldering the connection and using heat shrink tubing to protect...

  • Trailer Connector for Towing Surge Coupler Equipped Trailer With 2013 Toyota Tundra
I'll begin with the assumption that your new pontoon trailer has hydraulic surge brakes. This type of braking system uses a hydraulic coupler that compresses when the tow vehicle brakes, and the compression is what causes the brakes to actuate. A trailer like this usually uses a 5 pole flat trailer connector, with the extra circuit being the reverse lock out. The reverse lock utilizes a solenoid that prevents the brakes from applying with you attempt to back the trailer. Otherwise, especially...

  • How to Connect Three 10 Gauge Wires Together for Wiring Trailer Brakes
Connection three 10-gauge wires together is going to be best accomplished by soldering the connections as this is the most secure method. We have a solder gun that comes with solder as well with part # PTW2012. I realize that not everyone knows how to solder (or wants to learn how) so if you wanted to go with the butt connector route you'd need to go with 8 gauge butt connectors so that you can accommodate the thicker wire of having 2 10-gauge wires in one side of the connector. At this...

  • Wiring Harness Diagram and Installation Instructions
Your wiring should be pretty straight forward. The provided video link will walk you right through the installation. One of your lights will have a clear plastic lens on the bottom which will be used with the license plate bracket on the left side (drivers side) of the trailer. This will be hooked up with the wiring, including the yellow and brown wire. On the right side, you will use the green and brown wires to install that light. Your side marker lights will be hooked up with the brown...

  • Using Quick Splice Connectors for Water Proof Connection
If you're looking for a waterproof connection, I couldn't recommend quick splice connectors like the # SWC501925-1. The best solution to make the connection waterproof is to solder the connection then use a heat shrink tube like # DW05449 for 10-14 gauge wires or # DW05451 for 14-18 gauge wire. The second best option would be to use a heat shrink butt connector like # DW05745-5 for 10-12 gauge or # DW05744-10 for 14-16 gauge. Wrapping the connections securely in electrical tape would also...
