Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area on the driver's side and passenger's side. You will have to remove the rear threshold and some interior lining to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, run the red hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in your trunk.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Video Transcript for Review of Hopkins Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - HM11141844

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we'll take a look at this Hopkins plugin vehicle wiring harness with the four-Way flat trailer connector. Now this is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 2010 to 2018 Toyota Yaris vehicles, and on a custom fit part like this, I do like to recommend for you to go to our website, use the fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and I'll show you, this will work for your application. Now this will provide a four-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power of your trailer signal lights. It is compatible with five poles, six pole, and seven pole adapters that we do sell separate on our website, and this kit does connect very quickly and easily.

All you have to do is locate your connection points, which are behind the tail lights. You'll plug in these connectors here, one on each side, one on the driver's side, one on the passenger side, and then you'll have your two extra wires to connect. The white wire with the eyelet on it, that's to connect to a ground, and then the red wire with the butt connector on it, this will run, you'll run this power wire up to your vehicle's battery. Now it does include a circuit protected light tail light converter here to ensure that your vehicle's wire will match that of your trailer. This here will provide protection against electrical shorts and overloads.

It is a powered module, connects directly to your battery, and that's to avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Also, what's nice, you notice it comes with this dust cap for the four-way flat connector. Basically what you'll do with that is just attach it to your four-way and you can leave it attached. You don't have to take it on or take it off, but if you just leave it attached and then when you're not using it, when you're not plugged in, just put that cap over it. It'll protect those terminals from the elements or from any damage.

Maximum amperage on this kit is for the stop and turn lights is three amps per circuit for the tail lights is six amps per circuit. And now just quickly, I'm gonna go through all these parts, how they pretty much connect. But what you'll do is, as we mentioned, you'll go behind the taillights in your vehicle and you'll find the connectors that'll match these connectors. You'll take this one that has the yellow wire in it, that's for the driver's side, plug that in on the driver's side, go to the passenger side, and you'll take this connector with the green wire, has a length of wire, run this over to the passenger side, plug it in, and then as we mentioned, you have these two extra wires you'll run your four-way length of wire out to the back, so you can plug into your trailer. These two extra wires, you'll take your white wire, connect that to a good clean, clean ground that's nearby.

If there's not one nearby, you can make your own ground by using this grounding screw. And then you'll take this power wire that has a butt connector on it, and you'll run this to the front of the vehicle to connect to the battery. And they give you this length of wire to use, but you don't wanna run it directly to the battery. You wanna run it through this fuse connector. So you'll connect one end of this wire to the butt connector., run this length of wire up to the front. Once you get to the front, connect the wire to one side the butt connector of the fuse holder. The other side you can see has an eyelet on it, which connect to your battery. Pop open, has a 15 amp fuse installed. Make sure the fuse is in there, close it, and your system's all ready to go. They do give you some extra cable ties. Take up any slack in the wiring, and if you notice they give you a little tube or a little packet of terminal grease here. You want to put that terminal grease on all your electrical connections to prevent any corrosion. But that should do it for the review on this Hopkins plugin vehicle wiring harness for the four way flat trailer connector.

  • Correct Hopkins Wiring Harness for a 2010 Toyota Yaris Hatchback
The Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness # HM11141844 is for a 2010 Toyota Yaris Sedan so since you have the Hatchback model you'll need the Hopkins Wiring Harness # HM48925 instead. This is a splice-in kit which will still be effective and work, it just won't be a plug and play-type installation like the part you were looking at. Attached is a review video and the installation instructions for you to check out.

  • Can You Carry 2 E-Bikes Behind a 2008 Toyota Yaris?
As there is only a class I trailer hitch receiver like the Curt # C11480 available for your 2008 Toyota Yaris, you are going to want to use the Thule Epos Bike Rack # TH99XE. This rack is a class I and is capable of holding 2 bike up to 140lbs with a maximum of 75lbs per bike if you had one weighing 75lbs and another 65lbs or less. The rack itself only weighs 38.1lbs so with your 60lb bikes you are only at 158.1lbs which is below the 200lb capacity of the Curt class I receiver. The uprights...
