T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector

Hey everybody, how's it going Today we're going to be going over and showing you how to install the T-connector trailer wiring harness here on our 2019 Buick Envision. So our trailer wiring harness is going to simply transmit these signals from our vehicle to our trailer. Now, this is not only a legal requirement in every state, but it's also going to be a good added measure of security to let others out on the road know what signals we're going to be making. A lot of the time the trailer can actually block the vehicles taillights. So you're not going to be able to see what we're doing unless we have a way to transfer those signals from the vehicle to the trailer. So this particular kit here provides us with the most basic type of trailer connector, and that's going to be a four way flat, otherwise known as a four-pole trailer connector.

So this is the most common one that's going to be readily available, most trailers, the size for this vehicle are going to have this type of connection. So you shouldn't have to do too much checking there. Our four-pole is going to transmit the taillight circuits for both sides, as well as, the stop and turn signal circuits for both sides as well. We aren't going to have any reverse light circuits because a lot of the smaller trailers don't actually have reverse lights. Now keep in mind, there are some larger trailers.

We can tow with this vehicle that may have electric brakes, and in which case we'd actually have to adapt the four way to a seven way. And we have kits for this here at E Trailer. Keep in mind, that's only going to be for trailers that have electric brakes. So this kit is actually going to utilize a factory tow package port on the vehicle here. And the great thing about that is everything is already going to be separated out in regards to the circuits.

We're not going to be pulling power from the vehicle's taillights. Therefore, if there's any issues they're going to be separate from the taillights. We won't have to worry about any normal functionality. So in regards to installation, this is very, very simple. You guys really need to be doing this one at home by yourselves.

Please don't take this to a shop. You don't really need any tools whatsoever, and it's going to be very easy to complete in just a short amount of time. We'll go ahead and walk you through this entire process step by step now. To start our installation, we need to come to the driver's side of the vehicle here on the frame rail behind the bumper and locate the factory tow package port. So we take a look under here. We should see a much larger connector here, and then directly above this, we're going to have our tow package port. Now there's actually a dummy plug on the end of the tow package plug there that we need to remove. So we're going to pull out on this red locking tab like that, and then we're going to depress the center section, and then we should be able to wiggle the cap off. Now this is on the other side of the vehicle. So sometimes these plugs can be kind of hard to separate. If you can see there, it took a little bit of force. I had to remove it from the keeper actually, but we we're able to get the plug off. Now we'll take our wiring harness here and simply plug it into the tow package port on the vehicle. It's only going to go in one way. We should hear it click once it's locked into place. And now I'm going to go ahead and re secure the factory plug into the keeper there, up on the frame. So now we're going to take our trailer connector here. I'm going to route it up and over the bumper support tab back behind the bumper here, and then we're going to be securing it to the safety chain loops on our trailer hitch using the dust cap. But we actually don't already have our trailer hitch installed right now. We're going to be doing that a little bit later. So we don't have that on here that we can secure it to. But in the meantime, we could easily just take a zip tie, take some of the excess wire here and just zip tie it to that support tab that we just ran the wire behind. So now we're going to go ahead and just let our connector dangle here until we get the hitch installed, then we can just easily secure it to the safety chain loops. So now we need to finish up our installation inside the vehicle. So now we're going to come in the back of the vehicle here in our hatch. And on the driver's side, we're going to have a panel here. It looks like this. We need to go ahead and remove this. So we're just going to simply turn that little dial there and then we can pry the panel off. This is going to reveal our fuse box for the rear of the vehicle. So what we need to do is, we have two relays in our kit here. We need to install them on the fuse box, this relay portion on the bottom. So you have two slots here, make sure we align the pins here and they should just pop right into place. There's one. And there's the second one. Now we can go ahead reinstall our cover and test out our trailer connector. So we're going to use a four pole plug-in tester that we sell here at E Trailer to make sure everything is working. Keep in mind, if there's any issues on your trailer, they're going to carry over to our testing on the vehicle. That being said, let's go ahead and start our testing. I always like to start with the running lights, the brakes, left turn, and then right turn. So there we go. Now we know everything's hooked up and working correctly and that's going to do it today for our look and installation of the T connector trailer wiring harness here on our 2019 Buick envision..
