Quickly and easily install a 4-way trailer connector on your vehicle with this custom harness. T-connector plugs directly into existing wiring. Powered converter reduces strain on wiring system.
Features:
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located both behind the tail light and beneath your vehicle on the driver's side. You will have to remove the rear threshold, some interior covering, and the tail light assembly to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, run the red hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed in your rear cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Hopkins Plug In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with the four pole flat trailer connector. This product fits certain years of the Kia Sportage. You can always use the vehicle fit guide located at etrailer.com to ensure that this is a fit for your vehicle. It's going to provide a four way flat connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. This connector is compatible with five pole, six pole, and seven pole adapters. Adapters are sold separately, and it's going to come with the dust cap for the four way flat connector.
That way you can cover up the connection points when it's not being used. The black box on the unit is the included taillight converter. This ensure that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer's. This power module connects directly to the vehicle battery through the wiring to avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical system. The unit is designed to connect quickly and easily. You'll need to locate the connection points at the rear of the vehicle on the driver's side and plug in your connectors.
All the connectors on the unit are going to match up perfectly with the ports on the vehicle. They're going to snap lock together for a nice, tight, secure fit. Once you have those connected, you can then make a ground connection. Your ground wire is your white wire, has a ring terminal pre-attached to it. You want to get that grounded to a suitable grounding location with the included grounding screw. Then mount your converter box.
You'll notice that the converter box has a hole locator on each side. That way you can easily get it mounted to an out of the way location with the included cable ties. Once you have that done, you'll need to run the hot lead to your vehicle battery. The hot lead is this short, red wire with a butt connector attached to it. This gets connected to one end of the bundle of wiring. The other end of the bundle runs to the vehicle battery, it gets connected to one half of the fuse holder here at the butt connector.
The other half of the fuse holder has a ring terminal pre-attached and gets connected to the positive post of the vehicle battery. It does come with your 15 amp fuse, goes directly in the fuse holder, and it's got the cap that goes over it to keep it safe and protected. Once you have that done, basically your installation's complete. You'll need to make sure that your connector is stowed in a safe area. We recommend stowing it in your rear cargo area. There's plenty of wiring here that we can extend it out the back when you need to use it. When you don't need to use it, you can tuck it away and keep it safely out of the way and away from the elements as well. It's also recommended that you use a small amount of terminal grease on all your electrical connections, like the plugs on your vehicle and the four pole connector itself. The grease is designed to prevent corrosion and that grease packet is included with the kit. That's going to do it for today's look at the Hopkins Plug In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with the four pole flat trailer connector.

After spending 3 hours installing it I had to return it due to it blowing the fuse as soon as I put it in. Pretty sure black box was bad. I exchanged it for the T-one which i love and reccomend.
