Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area, on the driver's side and passenger's side. You will have to remove the rear threshold and some interior lining to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, run the red hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in your trunk.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Haven't put it on yet but it seems pretty easy and looks pretty nice. The only I have to say is the the draw tite sticker is scratched up and the green right turn wire is looped through the brown tail wire and the red brake wire.

Thanks for the follow up Jordan. I have noted your order regarding the wiring harness and one of our customer service representatives will be in contact with you shortly.

This kit for my Scion was so easy to install. Now I can attach my teardrop to my Scion and hit the road. My truck can now take a break.

2011 Scion tC

Fits a 2011 Scion TC. Run the red power wire on the passenger side. There is a grommet above the glovebox with provisions for a single wire, just cut the tip off.

2013 Scion tC

Easy to install. I ran the power line through the interior of the car along the wiring harness into the engine bay. Can’t say I agree with the instructions on running it under the vehicle. It not that much more difficult to pull some interior panels than to jack the car. Overall an excellent product.

No issues.

Easy installation. Helps to have two people, however, I installed it alone with the help of jack stands. I highly recommend the Curt receiver. I have another Curt receiver on my 2011 Honda Accord that I also purchased from etrailer.com.

I just finished hauling a load of bush and tree trimmings to the dump with my utility trailer. Attached is a close up photo of the receiver in use.

Went on easy although on a 2012 Scion
tC. The receiver pushed on the plastic just enough to deform it. It goes on ok, but if you want it to fit right you will need to cut the body panel just a little. But it works and fits ok with no damage. The two circled dimples in the photo should not be there that is what the hitch cause with no modifiactions.

Also the wiring harness that "t's" into the back lights required you to run a power line to the battery in the engine bay

For my 2013 scion tc, the installation was very easy. The only issue that i have was with the receiver end is pushing up on my bumper attached is a pic. The receiver should either sit about 3/4 of an inch lower, or 3/4 of an inch more towards the front of the vehicle. I was able to get it fastened, but im worried that over time it will rub into the bumper and make an ugly mark. Granted it wont be very noticeable because its the underside of the bumper, but i still wish the design would have avoided the bumper.

2014 Scion tC

Installation was a breeze. No wire cutting or tapping needed. The hardest part was just running the wires to the front of the car, and that wasn't that difficult. I used my test light and confirmed it was working exactly as it should.

Pretty straight forward instructions, much helpful if a Video was available.

  • Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2011 Scion tC
The only trailer wiring harnesses that will fit your 2011 Scion tC are hardwire harness # C56175 or the Plug-in Harness # HM1141964. The T-connector style will not fit your tC. I have linked the installation instructions for you.

  • Troubleshooting Turn Signals and Brake Lights Not Working With Curt Wiring Harness on 2009 Aveo5
With the installation of a new Curt wiring harness I doubt there are any issues with the converter, and it should have more than enough power unless you have an unusual number of lights on your trailer. I would check out the ground connection, which is likely the issue. I'm guessing you used the same ground connection when you installed the new wiring harness. Make sure it is secure on a clean, bare-metal surface. It might be best to go ahead and relocate the ground just to be sure. If...

  • Recommended Trailer Wiring Harness for 2012 Scion tC
The 4-pole trailer wiring harness I recommend for your Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # HM11141964. T-connector plugs directly into existing wiring and the powered converter reduces strain on wiring system. I also included an article that explains how to route the single power wire up to your battery and a video showing the entire installation process.

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Running Lights Staying on with Wiring Kit Installed on 2013 Scion tC
The trailer wiring harness for your 2013 Scion tC is the Hopkins # HM11141964. This uses a converter box that pulls in power directly from your battery via the lead wire and then use the other wires as "triggers" to tell the box when to send power to the correct functions. If the 4-Way connector and the ground look clean then you'll want to test the wires going into and out of the converter box. What I'm guessing is happening is that power is jumping from that lead to the running light...

  • Easy to Install Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2013 Scion tC
The Hopkins # HM11141964. The only thing that is different with the installation is that you will need to connect a power wire from the wiring harness converter to the vehicle battery. This isn't difficult at all, it just takes time. I have included a link to a help article that includes tips on routing the power wire.

  • Recommended Cargo Carrier for a 2011 Scion TC
I would be happy to! It looks like the only hitches for a 2011 Scion TC are 1-1/4" so you are going to be limited to 200 lbs total. With this in mind, I recommend the 17x46 Curt Cargo Carrier for 1-1/4" item # C18145. This carrier measures 48" long x 20" wide x 6" tall and weighs only 28 lbs. You'll have right at 170 lbs of weight you can add to it. You can use the etrailer Cargo Bag w/ Mounting Straps item # 988501 to keep your equipment dry. We actually did a review video of this cargo...

  • Is Fascia Bumper Trimming Required to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2012 Scion tC
Trimming the rear fascia is not required in the instructions for Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24815. I have linked the instructions for you to view. However on some vehicles, people did have to allow the hitch to push up the bumper or have trimmed it for the best fit. It seems to vary from vehicle to vehicle. I have included a link to a video that shows a typical installation for you. If you plan on doing some towing the recommended ball mount is # 3593 and you can use pin and clip # PC2....
