Quickly and easily install a 4-way trailer connector on your vehicle with this custom harness. T-connector plugs directly into existing wiring. Powered converter reduces strain on wiring system.
Features:
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the carpeting and tail light assemblies to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, run the red hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Today we're going to be looking at the Hopkins Plug In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with the 4 Pole Flat Trailer Connector. This product fits a 2008 to 2012 Chevy Malibu, 2008 to 2012 Buick Enclave, and a 2009 to 2012 Chevrolet Traverse. It's going to provide a 4 way flat connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. This is compatible with 5 pole, 6 pole, and 7 pole adapters. Adapters are sold separately. It's going to come with a dust cap for the 4 way flat connector, that way you can cover up the connection points when it's not being used.
The unit's also going to feature protective connection terminals to resist corrosion and last a long time. The black box right here, this is going to be the included power tail light converter. This is going to connect directly to the vehicle battery through the wiring to avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical system. This is designed to connect quickly and easily. Just locate the connection points behind the tail lights at the rear of the vehicle, plug in your connectors. The connectors with the yellow wires are going to go to the driver's side of the vehicle.
The connectors with the green wire's going to go to the passenger side. These ports are going to match up perfectly with the plugs on the vehicle and they're going to snap lock together for a nice tight secure fit. Once you have those plugged in you'll need to mount the converter box. You can do that using the cable ties and you'll need to make a ground connection. Your ground wire is your white wire. It has a ring terminal already attached to it.
You want to get that grounded to a nice clean metal surface with the included grounding screw. Then you can run your hot lead to the vehicle battery. The hot lead's going to be the short red wire with the butt connector coming out of the converter box. This is going to get connected to one end of the bundle wire. The other end of the bundle gets ran to the vehicle battery, gets connected to one half of the fuse holder here at the butt connector, and then the other half of the fuse holder gets connected to the positive post of the vehicle battery.
It does come with your 20 amp fuse. It goes directly in the fuse holder and it's got the fuse cap that goes over it to keep it safe and protected. Once you have everything done you can secure any excess or slack in the wiring with the included cable ties, and then the 4 way connector's going to be stowed beneath the vehicle near the trailer hitch. You can loop it around your safety chain loop or you can purchase a mounting bracket. We do recommend a mounting bracket to help keep the connector secure. Mounting brackets are sold separately, and you can find those right here at etrailer.com. It's also recommended that you use a small amount of grease in all your electrical connections like the plugs on the vehicle and the 4 pole connector itself. The grease is designed to prevent corrosion at the connection points, and it is included with the kit. That's going to do it for today's look at the Hopkins Plug In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with the 4 Pole Flat Trailer Connector.

Quickly and easily install a 4-way trailer connector on your vehicle with this custom harness. T-connector plugs directly into existing wiring. Powered converter reduces strain on wiring system. The reason for three stars instead of five is not due to its performance, but rather to its installation. The instructions clearly state that it is a no-splice, plug and go installation. On my model truck, 12 Chevy Traverse, with no tow package, it is not. There are no plugs to accept the harness. My system had to be spliced into the electric wiring behind the tail lights and below the drivers side, back cigarette lighter (are they even called that any more?) This caused much annoyance to my mechanic (who thank goodness didn't blame me), but did cause extra time at the shop in the stall which DID cost me extra $$.
So while the 2012 Traverse DID have a removable and re-attachable trailer bump out on the bumper while not having the factory tow package, it DID NOT have a plug ready to accept the wiring in the panel behind the tail lights.
I had to replace it a month ago, just shy of a year. Converter stopped working correctly and wouldn't allow any lights other than brake lights to work.
Installed myself and works great.
very ease to work with

This wiring harness is intended to be plugged in-line with the existing tail light harness. The existing tail light needs to be unplugged and this wiring harness plugs in-line to the existing vehicle harness. Additionally the power wire does need to be ran directly to the vehicle battery and not to the rear 12-Volt battery accessories ports. I have included a help article for your reference.
