Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area on the driver's side and passenger's side. You will have to remove the floor covers, trays, and some interior paneling to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, run the red hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed in your trunk.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Video Transcript for Hopkins Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - HM11141300 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Hopkins plug in simple vehicle wiring harness with the four pull flat trailer connector. This product fits certain years of the Buick Encore. You can use the vehicle fit guide located at etrailer.com to ensure that this is a fit for your vehicle. It provides a four way flat connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer signal lights. This is compatible with five pull, six pull and seven pull adapters. Adapters are sold separately.

It's going to come with a dusk app 00:00:27 for the full reflect connector. That way you can cover up the connection points when you're plug's not being used. The black box right here is the included tail light converter. This ensures that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer's. Power module connects directly to the vehicle battery which is going to avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Now, this unit's designed to connect quickly and easily.

It does come with detailed installation instructions to help with that process step by step. Basically, what you would need to do is locate your connection points in your rear cargo area. One connector is going to favor the passenger side, the other one favors the driver side. These plugs match up perfectly with the plugs in the vehicle. It's custom fit wiring harness, they match up perfectly and they snap lock together for a nice tight secure connection. Once you get those plugged in, you'll need to make a ground connection. That's your white wire with the ring terminal already attached to it.

You want to get that grounded to a suitable grounding location with the included grounding screw. Then you want to mount your converter box to an out of the way location using the provided cable ties. Then you'll need to run the hot lead to the vehicle battery. That's the red wire here with the butt 00:01:31 connector attached to it. This gets connected to one end of the bundle.

The other end of the bundle runs to the vehicle battery, connects to one half of the fuse holder here at the butt 00:01:40 connector. The other half of the fuse holder has a ring terminal on it, and that gets connected to the positive post of the vehicle battery. It does come with your 15 amp fuse, goes in here, it's got the fuse cap that goes over to keep it safe and protected. Once you have that done, you can go ahead and secure any excess or slack in your wiring with the remaining cable ties. Once the installation is complete, the four A connectors are going to be stowed in your rear cargo area. Plenty of wiring here, that way you can extend it out the back as needed. Then, when you're not using it, you can tuck it away to keep it out of the elements and keep it safe and protected. It is recommended that you use a small amount of terminal grease on all your electrical components like the plug on your vehicle and the four pull 00:02:16 connector itself. That grease is designed to help prevent corrosion to the terminals. The grease packet is included. Then when it comes to the maximum amperage for your stop and turn lights, we're looking at three amps per circuit. For the taillights we're looking at six amps per circuit. That's going to do it for today's look at the Hopkins plug in simple vehicle wiring harness with a four pull flat trailer connector.
